The irony of Bittersweet Symphony is that the violin part was also sampled by The Rolling Stones in their song. None of the writing credits should have gone to the Stones since the one part of the song the Verve used, wasn’t the part that The Stones wrote.

Not to be nitpicky, but wasn’t it specifically Keith Richards that sued them? I think I remember reading they reached out to Richards for the sampling permission, but because he claimed they breached his terms of use, he sued them and received a song credit as a result.
This case never sat well with me because Richards’s views don’t make much sense to me, so it seems like legacy artist bullying of a smaller act.

Id say the cha cha slide is the 2000's version of the macarena, as like the macarena in the 90's it was played at every single big party and everyone would do the dance. The Cupid Shuffle later in the decade a close second that was also very common and pervasive, Crank that had its moments but was arguably bigger as an online dance or something to do at a small hangout. I rarely saw the Crank that dance done at big parties even during the height of that songs popularity, it fits in more with modern tik tok dances which blow up online, but are rarely done at party's unless there's a bunch of influencers there.

The '90s really were the decade of one hit wonders! You could make quite a few sequel videos with how many there were. Here are my thoughts on each of these:
"Baby Got Back" - If you're gonna do a one hit wonder, this is how it's done. An iconic song that most people have probably heard at least once.
"Macarena" - I kind of like this song more than I should. As a kid, I had a screensaver with this song on it and I used to drive my mom insane letting it play on the computer. I also learned the dance in gym class, because of course I did.
"Stay (I Missed You)" - I didn't like this song at first, but it's really grown on me. There's something about the aesthetic of mid-late '90s acoustic rock songs like this one that makes me intensely nostalgic.
"No Rain" - I really like this song! It makes me want to drive down an empty desert highway with the top down. My little brother hates it with a passion, though...
"Bitter Sweet Symphony" - When people ask me what my favorite song is, I tell them it's this one. I love it and it never gets old for me.
"Cannonball" - I heard this song in a grocery store a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing. Everything about it is cool, from the sexy vocals to the badass production.
"What's Up?" - I heard this song in the car last Friday and it was not very amazing. I said the last song sounded badass, but this one just sounds like ass. Those vocals, just why?
"Unbelievable" - Another iconic and catchy hit from the early '90s. I just wish I didn't think of all the commercials it's been in every time I heard it...

Lisa Loeb and Ethan Hawke lived in apartment buildings in NYC that were directly across the way from each other. That's how they met. My cousin Kristina lived in Lisa's apartment building too and considered both of them "theater acquaintances".

Every day, aside from Saturday (and some Sundays) when you don't work, I always go through my notifs when I wake up (I need shit to listen to as I go through my morning routine), and I swipe away the dumb shit and save the interesting sounding stuff to my watch later list, and every single time I get a new upload from either of your channels (except for interviews if I'm being honest), I don't really get down with them unless it's with someone I know/a band I know and like, yada yada yada, I always save your videos last so that it's the first video I see in the playlist; you're prime poopin' playin' playa, and that's the highest honor and most important video of the day Finn me boy 🤙🏻

I hated No Rain at first... But when you listen to the Soup album from a few years later... It's a masterpiece. Shannon Hoon was way out there but so talented. After Soup, they would have put out a decisive record, putting them on the map for good. I'm sure of it.
    But then there's drugs...

Samuel Bayer, the guy who directed “No Rain” also directed Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Zombie” by the Cranberries and “I’m Only Happy a when it Rains” by Garbage, among dozens of other videos. He also directed the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake, so there were some misses as well.

6:05 - dude, hot chicks literally ate shit up back then. Yes it’s fucking vapid and it is shit but it was everywhere like Gangnam Style or whatever it was called.
But many people liked it. Tons.
It’s like The Big Bang Theory. The show was shit. But in its worst week it pulled more viewers than even the best episode of Breaking Bad, one of the best shows of all time.
The point is, never assume that cause something is dumb or uncool that it is not widely liked by the masses.

I used to live in Washington years ago and would often pop in to the local Guitar Center near south center mall. I heard on multiple occasions while chatting with employees that Sir Mix-a-lot came in quite often and was a super cool guy. I never ran into him, but cool that he was down to earth like that.
