- Here we Diagnose and repair this VW Crafter intermittent starting problem when engine is hot.
engine would repeatedly stall out when starting. and was ongoing for months until eventually the engine stalled and would not re start. diagnostic test showed camshaft and crankshaft correlation so we checked the timing was correct.
we found wear on the crankshaft gear pulley and this fixed the problem
Just had this on a crafter 233000miles took off crank gear and slight wear changed it along with the oil seal pig to get off - but sorted it - fine starting when cold wouldn’t start from hot .. cheers for sharing from another mobile mechanic 👨🏻🔧 fixed now
2:22 definitely warped that crank gear. How did you know to check there?
Very interesting watching your videos
Thank you. I have problem with this in my crafter from one year. It's the same reason.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME !!!
Why isn't the crankshaft hexagonal shape surely would be less stress on one side
Nice find man!. is this a common problem?. I’m looking at (to buy) a T5.1 with the CAAC similar engine to this and has a correlation code present, no running issues just flashes and sets the DTC at a certain load/engine speed and goes out immediately. I’ve done loads of T-belts on these and have never come across it before
Good job,... I have the same fault code on a 2.0tdi,.. Is the motor you worked on also diesel?
Great video
excellent! Same thing... and so much headache he gave me.
Do you have the code number in the piece?
excellent everything and thank you for comparing it
Thank you. I don't have the part number code. I just used the vehicle registration number with TPS parts so they could find the correct part
Good video😎
I have a question.
Do you know how many degress the incorrelation must be before faultcode p0016 comes?
I'm going through similar following having had the following renewed.
Independent garage......
Cambelt
Pulleys
Water pump
Tensioner
Volkswagen main dealer
Lower crank pulley gear
Then still had starting issues, so took my van to volkswagen, only tp find, Independent garage had attempted to remove the crankshaft sensor, but failed, rounding off the torx head.
Crankshaft sensor (gearbox had to be dropped to extract sensor retainer bolt).
The combined bills for above was €3000 euros, I had ny pants pulled down big time.
I've ordered a camshaft sensor now, waiting for it to arrive, however in my case, I highly suspect the garage that did my cambelt, they didn't set the timing up perfect.
Hello, i have passat b6 2.0 tdi CR stalling when start cold . after check with vcds i found p0016... Please what you think ... Thanks
Good morning, my crafter is a shit to start ( both hot and cold ) I've had the glow plugs done, still the same. I've had the camshaft sensor done, still the same. But the last mechanic put his fault finder on and camshaft/crankshaft correlation has now come up. Do you think changing the gear will fix the problem ??
Nice work mate 😀
this can be fixed by software , need a tool to read/write the ecu , works 100%
Is it possible that a oxygen sensor cause high oil consumption on the crafter 2.5 tdi engine?
Thank you!
Great vid, I've got similar problem when hot but it doesn't stall it just struggles to start and give fault for crankshaft no signal. Do you think this could be the same problem
No. Sounds like crank sensor
Nice one
Good job 👌 that's your personal van?
Yes it is
Hi - what was the mileage of the van at this point? Thinking I might have a similar problem as it starts then dies instantly - only difference is it’s hot or cold start.
Mileage was 238,000 miles.
Intermittent problem problem of cold start was also on this van.
The problem was intermittent then it was permanent
I bet the issue is back now.
Definitely not back.
We are driving the van 150+ miles per day since 👍🏻
thats why I will never own a post 06 vw. Horrible stupid designs
To be fair it did have 236,000 miles on the clock.
@@Mickytdi one of my customers failed at 162000mls
@@nihonkokusai Still a lot of miles. My 2.0 BiTDi 240bhp passat running well at 180,000 miles.
