Spain and Germany were simply the best not just because of talent but because the balance and profiles made sense. Spain would be demons when Gavi, Balde, Cubarsi and Pedri come back for the world cup.
Good breakdown. The simple fact is England played woth too many passengers and you will never succeed in such circumstances. Kane, Foden, Walker and Jude for most of the tournament didn't offer anything, not even an outlet to relieve pressure. Next manager needs to make his own decisions and not go with the media narrative, imagine another tournament putting your best player at full back so Foden can stink out the place again.
Southgate gets big credit how he unified the country, how he helped bring media in & which reduced the usual backlash (up until last WC). How Southgate handles the media, how he protects players, how he dealt with race issues, how he gave young players opportunities. Southgate showed great leadership on & off the pitch. Even how he dealt with post Euro 2020, how he navigated the huge backlash both him & the team got in build up to World Cup 2022 & kept the group together & even worse this time before & during the Euro's. However thats where praise ends. Southgate was able to keep the group together but he never gave them the best platform to perform. His tactics were not well thoughtout, talents regularly bailing him out. Even during 2018 World cup. England had 1-0 lead early, held on instead of going for it & took way to long to make a change, never adressed midfield issue. England had 1-0 lead early v Italy in final, was in the ascendency & had the momentum but sat back. The players starting positions are so deep because of the manager. The attackers have to plays as defenders + midfielders & by the time they recieve the ball, there expected to run the length of the pitch with no support. How often do england have 4-5 bodies in the box during attacks. England max have 2 players in the box, 1 of whicu was Kane whose movement was poor. Southgate this Euro's biggest mistake was he left out a player with raw pace. Same with up top with Kane being at CF shrunk the pitch for his team. The team would be playing higher up & push opposition back if they had natural pace in behind. Not having that wastes so many players qualities. Saka + Foden can't make those passes in behind like they do at Arsenal + City because Kane is stationary, can't hold the ball up & plays in front of the defense. Kane looked old + injured.
Jude bellingham has every right to say who else when i comes to scoring 90+ min goals because he been doing it for Real Madrid all season when no one else was getting them. Saved madrid numerous of times and its was always him because who else was it gonna be. Madrid is a superstar club that knows how to treat superstars like superstars and England dont like their owns superstars
Cams we in the system era of football, if you dont have a cohesive system and structure! Southgate is just pragmatic and risk averse football. This tournament he laid an egg, how do you have the whole squad looking mid like that.
I think all the hype just got to the England players a bit aside from maybe the tactics and all. Can't blame them when all they hear are heaps of praises from their own media.
Cams nah man you can’t leave the Foden train he’s attached to you. You used to blitz man that would say he wasn’t as good as man were making him out to be. Now you saying you looking at him differently!?👀
Phoden thrives In a possession bases team, England barely even get the ball.. 35 percent possession and you want him to impact the team? How do you do that
I'm probably Rodri's biggest fan, but I don't think that player of the tournament was his. It was not unthinkable that he won it because he was a key part of Spain's midfield control but he wasn't their best overall player. And Foden, I said this a couple of times; Foden has a set way of playing his 10 role and in that first half of the Netherlands game where he had his best game was a fraction of that set up. what Mainoo and him were doing is what he does with Rodri at the club. When Netherlands came back in the 2nd half and fixed up their midfield, Mainoo got restricted going forward and well Rice was Rice, Foden reverted to being a passenger in the team.
Everytime you criticize Foden, people like to yell out and say, no, Southgate is using him wrong, he's playing him out of position, all this is showing me is he's not world class, he's never been world class, and he's a phenomenol system player, simple as that, WORLD class talent performs regardless of position, regardless of tactics and regardless of the how big the stage is, the sad reality is Foden isn't this and English media and England fans need to stop hyping up their players as such
It's the players who step on that pitch who are to blame. They have been given the opportunity to win something twice now & failed to grasp that moment of immortality that awaited them. We got lucky to have fortunate runs to get to where Gareth has taken us but just because we have players who individually thrive at club level does not mean we have some divine right to be beating anyone, we HAVE to prove it. Over the last 8 years they just have not been collectively good enough. We cannot hold possession of the ball & pass under pressure when it comes down to other teams, the best we can hope for is to attack & go to score goals. It's not in an England teams DNA to be comfortable on the ball. When we get knocked out in the Quarter Finals/Semi's in the World Cup of 2026, it will be a brave defeat but if we don't get hold of the ball against better opposition we won't win a thing ever again
You guys are getting it wrong. Every player not performing to their usual standard is to be blamed on the manager. Yes the manager. On Phil Foden, first of all he didn’t play 5 games in the 10 role he played 2. Secondly, the game in which he performed well (Netherlands) notice how England had more possession of the ball. Against Spain how tf are you supposed to come up with something when your team can’t even get the ball. None I repeat none of England forward players performed well. 2 of them just came up with moments but it’s unfortunate for Phil that he didn’t have his. I feel so sorry for him because of those forward players he was the one playing out of position. Only Guehi and Mainoo can leave with their head up high if we all all being honest. What’s this thing about Saka performing well when he didn’t. And I must say since Saka received that abuse last euros there has been a sense of protection on him just people are afraid to criticize him even if he has a bad performance. It’s ok to criticize him. You can’t keep protecting him and giving him grace cos he got racially abused. As for Bellingham poor tournament overall but what should he actually do from LW position at the end of the tournament. As for that fraud captain Harry Kane, why is he dragging the midfield position with Foden, Bellingham and co? Tell that guy to make runs and get in the box to get at the end of crosses that the likes of Saka and Foden were playing in. All of these players had to take blame but the truth is that Southgate just didn’t get the best out of these players cos of his play style and tactics. He should have known that Kane should not be starting or play runners on the wing if you wanna play Kane so badly. Southgate was the main problem. Simple.
@@rajkaranvirk7525 either he’s 80 games unbeaten in a row or he isn’t. Or is it because it’s rodri he’s 80 games unbeaten but the cup final doesn’t count
Southgate did not want those problems, you take Rashford and Grealish, he would have had to take Foden out the team because for some reason he thought Jude played as a #10 for Madrid
The Premier League benefits from the fact that the whole world speaks English. If Spain conquered the world, we would all be watching La Liga just like South Americans watch La Liga more than Nigerians that focus more on Premier League.
Comon ROdri, make thinks simple he controls so much better that other players can perfomr in thier position, look ENgland , Fracne without defensive midfeilder. I mean you add Rodri in any team and you will see improvement in attache and defence... It has to be Rodri. Acutally he makes so much simplet aht pepople forgets his presence, i mean man city lost all 3 wihtout him and won or drew with him, thats tell you lots of story...
We can't keep the ball & don't have the vision & movement of a technically gifted team like Spain. It's as simple as that. I've now seen two finals & 1 semi (Croatia) with exactly the same result, low possession & not enough bravery. It may never happen & that's sad but we will give it a go again. Too much in this tournament a player has had a ball at their feet & the rest of their Eng team mates expect them to take on a man & dribble through the opposition without realising they are not brave enough & need someone to come short & provide an option for a pass. In the final only Saka, Bellingham, Stones, Rice & Palmer tried to move progressively with the ball significantly that I can remember & Pickford kicked it long far, far to often
bellingham playing "bad" is mostly southgate's fault in trying to integrate 2 no show players on the offensive side in kane and foden. bellinham would have thrived with more speed or technical ability i.e cole palmer and watkins throughout the whole tourney than kane and foden who wouldn't run to save his life
Kane and Foden should not have started, simple. Foden - 0 goals and 0 assists speaks for itself. Foden only plays well De Bruyne, Silva, Haaland and Rodri around him.
The high end players are falling off cuz they’re tired… no wonder all the best players are young their careers just started Players past 25 have played 400+ games already at a high level. You guys need to consider that… the games is going to get younger and younger
I don’t understand how we watch these players rise above the rest during their respective 40+ game season but after 8 games in a tournament are quick to say they are not as good as other nations players 😭😭 like they’re playing against players from other nations all the time and perform better than them
Like bro the players are attacking players playing in a defensive team smh. What do you expect its not a coincidence they say said the goalie, centerbacks and defensive mid can hold their heads high. OF COURSE THE SYSTEM SUITED THEM. And then you could say palmer but he only came in when wngland HAD to attack the game.

Finally i haerd something realistic about Jude, I told earlier , he is too much hipe, and england relied too much on him, rather then balance. He has just played first season at real madrid and that too with vinicius and rodrigo who will create much more... he should have stayed alongside rice rather then coming front, let front men do what they do...see what happens now they have mbappe, and jude thinks he something the way he was dictating , he has not done more,
Guys, I know it's natural to have bias against rival teams players and hate them. But let's not make the mistake we did with Messi and Ronaldo. This is what football should be about. I hate Barca, but I loved how they played. Sure I celebrate when Madrid win trophies, but I didn't used to like watching the full 90.

Real Madrid are keen on prising Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold away from Anfield this summer
Yep lane should not of started . They said Kane had a back problem . Southgate was a defender as a player and his tactics as a manger where defensive
Saying foden should be performing at the same level as he does for man city for this England squad under southgate is dirty work😭
Excuses excuses excuses. The fraud has been exposed. The whole world knows what he is now.
Dirty work ? Thats his jobe and he played 10 like he asked for
Foden is not that good. It is what it is. No individual quality, which just shows good pep is
It’s not
If he’s world class it’s light work tbh
Jude bellingham has every right to say who else when i comes to scoring 90+ min goals because he been doing it for Real Madrid all season when no one else was getting them. Saved madrid numerous of times and its was always him because who else was it gonna be. Madrid is a superstar club that knows how to treat superstars like superstars and England dont like their owns superstars
Damn I love this podcast 🥲🥺🥺
Cams we in the system era of football, if you dont have a cohesive system and structure! Southgate is just pragmatic and risk averse football. This tournament he laid an egg, how do you have the whole squad looking mid like that.
Because a lot of the players are mid simple as that
Premier league is great. It's just that most of the best players here, for more than a decade have been foreign players.
Fuad looks like he just rolled out of bed
Did they classify oyerazabal as a midfielder? Do they even watch football other than epl?
I think all the hype just got to the England players a bit aside from maybe the tactics and all. Can't blame them when all they hear are heaps of praises from their own media.
Cams nah man you can’t leave the Foden train he’s attached to you.

He’s overhyped get over it
So are you saying he’s a system player 🤔
Alexander-Arnold could follow England teammate Jude Bellingham to Madrid
Cams spitting. I’m looking at Foden different
I can see why foden is rated highly hes very good on the ball but does nothing with it for england being fancy on the ball does mean ur good

Great show as usual quality best footballing podcast out there
- no English manager has ever won a EPL
- of the 10 last winners, English players barely crack the top players of those sides
Such a great podcast!!!
Simple.

England needed Grealish, Rashford and Sancho/Sterling period. They should've been there ahead of Bowen, Eze and Wharton
Southgate did not want those problems, you take Rashford and Grealish, he would have had to take Foden out the team because for some reason he thought Jude played as a #10 for Madrid
Foden criticism becomes invalid when saying he played 5 games as a 10. You can say he played poorly (like 8/11 starters) without making up narratives.
Rice and girlish are mercenaries Bellingham plays as a eu citizen for real Madrid with his Irish passport
The Premier League benefits from the fact that the whole world speaks English. If Spain conquered the world, we would all be watching La Liga just like South Americans watch La Liga more than Nigerians that focus more on Premier League.
