I have a two year old female Kangal, had her about four months now. Last weekend we had ten year old special needs child.. my dog was super gentle with her… no issues.. this comparison is obviously biased…but I get that…if done by a kangal person..it would swing the other way…basically a good dog is a good dog.
Neither dog is good around small children simply due to their sheer size, same as CO that's likely why not 5 stars. My COs love love love children as well but I wouldn't leave them alone with a toddler simply because accidents happen.
Child friendlyness and general health is not that bad for kangal.
That health rating is wrong. From what I've *always* heard Kangal health is top tier, they are very tough and can withstand both the very cold and the very hot climate easily.

They hate hot weather. If the Kangals see more disturbed sheep, etc., they create a shadow with themselves, but if there is no such situation, they will never wander around in hot weather.

I'm on my third and fourth Kangals. The standard for males goes to 65 kg, but both of mine were north of 75 kg. They are the most amazing breed if you know how to handle them, and make great companions as well as unequaled protectors.
The Alabai seems to have similar traits but I have no first hand experience.
Same instinct but add 20lbs. Maybe a inch or two taller? I have both and both are amazing and extremely protective. Excellent dogs but require educated owners.

I have an Alabai, it's 2 months old and for its age he's huge and has a very strong bite.
He's gonna be massive.
I have a CAO dog from Romania. I got him from a rescue shelter when he was 6 months of age and weighed 77 lbs. He's almost 8 now, 74 cm tall at the wither and weighs 115 lbs. High fences and with posted signs are a must. When I go out walking the dog, he wears 2 collars attached to the 2 different points on the main leash encase one breaks and it has happened before. Understand your dog's temperament: soft, mild and hard. Mine has a hard temper. No dog parks, stay away from other dogs and watch out for humans who get to close, when unknown people come over to your place hide the dog/muzzle it. Wishing you and your dog a happy long life together.

@kal Ke very true some of these get real heavy. I'm friends with a couple of people from eastern Europe/Balkans. From the many photos that I've given them they all say that my dog is definitely a CAO/Alabai whole still luckily has his ears and whole tail. My dog was born in Romania and was transported to Germany when he was 3 months of age. 2 of my friends, their dogs weigh 80 kg. One of their friends dog weighs 100 kg. Yes, kangal and alabai are relatives.alabai is a Turkmen dog, not Russian. Bully kuta looks like great dane mostly and it has thin tail. We have more dog breeds in Turkey bigger than Kangal and thicker than alabai. But all of them are relatives. Please search for Akbas, Yoruk coban kopegi, Malakli, Capar Karakaya coban kopegi, Anadolu coban kopegi. Some informationa given in the video are not so true. Kangal is much more lovely with the kids than Alabai. Kangal is playfull. A kind dog with family members and family friends. Alabai is a hard dog, nervous, easy to get anger. Kangal is not a stupid dog, the intelligence star is shown less. Yes, not easy to educate it like the other dogs such as german shepherd. But if you educate it earlier before 6 months, you may get better results.

Hi Bunyamin, are you a breeder? How do you know as much of theese two breeds? Alabai/kangal? We are thinking to buy a dog to protect us( from bear mainly) we going to live near a wood where living lot of bear appearently... So we need a strong dog, but also we have small children. Do you think kangal would be better choice?

My close friend, my brothers, my cousins have different type of dogs. i also have kids thats why i want to send our Jack Russel away because it is biting, very jealous dog. Kangal is very Gentle dog. Very friendly with all family members. My close friend has 2 of them in his farm for guarding the area. The first time i took my daughter with me she was 2 years old and the kangal's reaction was just bending his head infront of her to let her touch his head. Not jumping not trying to lick etc... He was taller than my daughter but he understands. i had the same experience with my son also. Normally when the dog sees me he is gettig excited and jumping, waving his tail a lot. But for kids he does not want to make them scared. But if he sees other foreigner adults he became a monster especially other dogs. Even he knows he will die he is not afraid of attacking right away. if you are close to Turkey, you can find some other breeds for bears. They are Ok with the family members, kids. Bigger than kangals and crazy dogs. Search for Ala Coban Kopegi a pair of dog will be enough for you. Kangal, you need several. And another hard dog is Akbash. it looks like Kangal but all the way white and harder than Kangal. not gentle like Kangal. For family members it is gentle again. @@melindamiklos8136 in my opinion i think every shepherd dog is good with family members but i do recommend kangal bc he is very strong and he loves children but if you get it as a puppy u need to let your kids to play more with him bc he would love them more i own an illyrian shepherd he is a beast he likes to play a lot but i didnt let any kid go play with him so now where he sees a kid he immidiatly run towards them he wants to play with them but he doesnt know that he is very strong for them u said you are going to live near bears and woods u need to have strong dogs there and make sure u keep them in a secured place some dog breeds that i do reccomend are

Illyrian shepherd(those that are all white are more gentle and less agresive)
Caucasian shepherd
belgium malinois(not as strong as those otheres dog but its fast and agile and you can train him and he protects kid)
Dobreman(same as malinois)
Alabai(much more agressive than kangal but calm with family members)
Dogo argentino(if he sees a dog he would immidiatly want to fight him but a dogo is known to save 2 girls from a puma)

Alabai is not russian dog, it belongs to Turkmenstan and central Asia which is Turks again. They are both great dogs.
I would love to cross bread them 2 breeds but its very expensive dog breed Alabai is and its very hard to find a pure breed one here in Turkey.

Turkmenistan variant is the most famous,called Alabai. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan ,all of these are independent countries ,not Turkish colonies.

Both bred for the same jobs I would say working kangal is more leaner quicker on its feet but the Alabai is just pure brute strength and has a lot of courage would rather die then give up if both breeds were to fight each other to be honest it would just depend on the dog the fight could go either way both breeds are similar in temperament loyal towards family good with kids and ferocious against predators I own a Alabai she is a year old and already 32 inch to the shoulder and the power on her is serious there strength is honesty not like any other dog it’s a totally different level I had a kangal many years ago and Japanese tosa inu I rate both breeds kangal and Alabai but tosa are also very dangerous dogs to high pain fresh-hold attack silently extremely good on stamina move really good for such a heavy breed a true athlete you may look at them and think it’s a big heavy droopy mastiff type dog but when they switch they don’t stop it was my brothers dog the tosa and I decided to take it for walk one day when I took it out after 5 miles of walking I noticed the tosa is still active no heavy breathing or getting tired and it’s movement was very agile and snake like very light on its feet when I took it home after a 10 mile walk it was still not tired and was ready for a walk again it was at that point I realised that the tosa is a serious breed

I have 2 kangal and they are very friendly with children and with my friends when they are coming to me home , but with the strangers , well , they are must assume if they wanna to entry on my ownership without my permission ! :)) They are a good dogs for yards and sheepfords !

У меня Алабай кабель год 2 месяца у него рост 91 см а вес почти 100 у меня на канале есть он можете посмотреть Кангал это просто завтрак для Алабая алабай почти в 2 раза крупнее кангал средний вес 50 кг алабай минимум 80 весит
Я не думаю что изначально алабай был такие здоровым под 90 килограмм , унас у казахов называет его тобетом туркмены изначально говорили казакы ИТ и.е. собака казахов тобеты и сейчас разводят но не такие большие но подвижные и коренастые почему такие и туркмены и казахи и узбеки шайбани и каракалпаки вели кочевую образ жизни или полу кочевую на юге основная задача охрана от волков стады животных столько алаба брату на фазенду привозил он отказывался из за слабости и прихотливости и, непрактично вообще его там содержать тобеты мощные подвижные то что надо ,а так для города кто любить эту породу можно думаю и у нас тюрков такие большие собаки из начало не было не выгодно было раньше такие породы собак

Once upon time in the Sultan Palace the personal lion of the Sultan was transported to a other place. While doing so they passed a guard who was sitting with his Kangal protecting the palace entrance. A fight ensued between the Kangal and the lion. The entire palace was in uproar because the sound of them fighting was breathtaking. After the fight was over, the Sultan asked what happened. They explained to him the situation and he asked to see who won. So they went to get the winner. And it was unbelievable what he saw. The Kangal hade a broken leg, and many wounds on his body, but still he came humping on 3 legs with his tail in the air like a champion. The Sultan was madly impressed and used this ferocious dog for further breading. True story folks.

My family has had pit bulls and Rottweilers for many years. My wife and I have had only pit bulls. They are difficult to deal with off-leash because they will not tolerate any dominance actions from other dogs, regardless of size of the other dog and they WILL fight. I have had personal experience with those situations.
To those who want pit bulls but have not had one, there are four VERY NECESSARY things you MUST do for your pit bull;

@@bunyaminulucinar I know isn't Russian,Russia stole the Georgian shepherd, Afghan kuchi and Alabai to create their own dog breeds.
They made them for military services and for dog shows so they ruined dog breeds.
A lot of hype. Spanish mastiff is a very similar dog for example. In short most of the traditional shepherd dogs have similar size, bite, character and endurance. Including perfect health and long lifespan.
