- Ahoy Team, this week I'm back out testing the NEW deep Crank that just keep getting eaten! It's Big fish Candy! After losing 4 really nice fish a couple of trips ago I decided enough is enough and went on another trip to see if i could finally stop some of the big ones... and I did!! Sam, any thought on how the lure presents at depth and hook position while the lure is swimming? May be an issue with hook-up rate?! What about using a dropper to get depth quickly which should reduce line length or is noise an issue for the snapper?

Love your vids dude! Great content all the time, and made me keen to swap from Daiwa to ATC just cause the drag sounds ripe! But also, 30lb is a good line class… 50 with fluorocarbon is even better 😅
Haha get around them mate! The problem with heavier gear is the drag on the line and leader stops the lure diving as deep! Its a catch 22 unfortunately 🤦♂️

I looked into doing this a while ago and couldn’t get insurance for it unless I was a registered charter operator and had the boat put into survey. I have a couple of ideas though for some upcoming things that should work 👌👌

Sammy, trying to learn the art of fishing this way. What speed are you at to get the lure diving nice and deep ?
G’day Mate, I just cruise around at idle speed. The deep divers can’t go too fast unfortunately!
howsit, what speed are you going and what depth does the lure reach at that speed, you recon it gets all the way down to 12m going that slow?

Hey Sammy do u have any tips on how to find fishing spots. Other than busting pelagics, can’t find any structure to catch decent fish. Other than that great video mate looking forward to the next.
Best wet would be investigating in a good gps / finder and get floor sea maps and you will be able to locate rocks and reefs etc
Yeah mate I agree with the above. Get your electronics sorted and then you can find areas to fish while you’re driving around 👌👍
Another great episode! The electric reel looks like it's on some sort of kite or dredge rod, I'm dying to know what you've got going on with it.

Have you ever tried a wire lead where you're getting snipped a lot.
Don't know if it will work, but it might be worth a try.
I’m not getting bitten off, the fish are running into the reef, so wire wouldn’t fix the issue unfortunately! 🍻🍻

How much drag have you got on those trolling rods? I'm thinking that GoPro camera angle makes them look like they are bending all the way to the butt.
I winced every time, expecting a snap to come.
Just enough drag to set the hooks and try convince them not to run straight into the bottom 😂😂

Yo Sam ya gotta go up on that leader size my friend! Whatever you are using go up at least 10 lbs.! Maybe 15-20 lbs!😎
Haha I’m already using 20lb braid and 30lb leader! Any heavier and the lures won’t dive down as deep!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing try 40lb leader. It shouldnt effect anything depth wise. Use Seagars Gold ultra fluoro 40 lb!😎

@SammyHitzkeFishing I was thinking Sammy. Maybe cause the lure dives so deep when the fish hit it there's a lot of slack line. I don't know. Though your driving forward. Maybe try different trebbles

Just out of curiosity why don't you use inline J hooks instead of those trebles. In my experience I've had a lot less missed hookups and straightened hooks with them compared to those trebs. Thanks for the awesome vids as always from a fellow fisherman from South Africa
Hey mate! I’ve tried the singles a few times, they work great once they are in, but I found I missed a lot more hits with them. I also like that the second hooks swings into the fish with trebles and ads to the hook security 👌
So personal preference more than anything 👍👍
Can you estimate your trolling speeds with this 12 meter lure please?
That’s color and design, except for the massive bib, looks exactly the same as a bass lure we used in QLD back in the 90’s, it was really good and then it was gone.

There’s no need to reset the hooks. I have my drag set to drive the hooks home when they eat the lure 👌

So the description says the lure is a Toughfia Papuan Bass Diver. When you put that in google it only comes up with a bibless swimming jerk bait.

Every time you pull the rod out the holder and reach over you release the pressure on the fish and they unhook (I think for the camera) and

@@SammyHitzkeFishing Hmm... I thought the Viper-41 and Raptor-Z were both 4X meant to be sticky for hard plastics? I run Raptor-Z on my Halco 130s in the gulf for YFT, so far so good.
Why don’t you use the boat to drive the hooks home before you pick the rod up ? Works good
Hey mate, I set my drag tight enough drive the hooks in on the hit, also once the drag is spinning, gunning the boat forward doesn’t add any additional pressure to set hooks. The drag just spins faster. It only works if you see the lure get eaten the fish comes towards you and doesn’t load up the rod 👍

Sam what depth and what’s the maximum speed and what speed are you trolling for snapper and what is the depth at that speed. I have not trolled for snapper in my life . I’m going back to the Cook Islands for a few weeks and I would love to take 20 if I can troll 15 knots. I’m in Australia at the moment for my kids Education but going back home to see my Mother. I have fished and eaten fish 85% of my life breakfast lunch and dinner and I have 2 boats a 6.7 barcrusher and 4.6 Dory in Australia. From a Aitutaki Cook Islander and when I go back next year I will take a lot of that lure only if I can use it for high speed trolling and I will tell them what I’m using. Hey mate the lures go down to 12m and I troll at idle speed only, so unfortunately they wouldn’t be suitable for your application. Try the new halco 210 👍👍

Thats nothing but a deep diving plug! They are a dime a dozen here in the US. They even use those for freshwater largemouth bass. Nothing special🤦♂️🤦♂️🤔
