- Ahoy team, this week the team from Wilson Fishing and Myself enter a 7-day fishing competition where the biggest fish wins!! The competition is located at Rainbow Beach on the Fraser Coast, and just so happens to be a fishing Mecca! With some insanely good weather forecast for the trip, fingers crossed we can find ourselves at the top of the leader board!!

My goodness you fellas have bought back memories. In the 80s my friends & i used to fish out there about 15km off Double Island Point. Sometimes in little tinnies with our bums 6" off the water. With 60lb hand lines & fingers nearly stripped to the bone. Couple of times our hull cracked & we had to bale all the way home. Once the hull opened up like a sardine can as we crossed the breakers heading into Rainbow & scared the living daylights out of us. But you fish in what you can afford. Later we upgraded & mostly fished between 9 & 15km offshore for massive Pearl Perch & Red Emperor every 9pm low tide weekend for a few years. We used to pick up lots of GTs over a meter long too & they were like steam trains. You have the secret half right, big bait eliminates small fish, but to find the biggest Red Emperor & Pearl Perch you have to move away from structure. They love the flat bottoms out there, preferably gravel bottoms & you will pick em up so big you might have to trade in your gear for hand lines lol.

@SammyHitzkeFishing sammy I'll ask again. Do you think the fat guy from wilson chucking a pearly in an esky to flap about is a fair and humane way to treat a quality eating fish? You're usually a promoter of the iki bleed and slurry process.

15 year's ago was the last time i went to the rainbo comp along with other family and friends every year we all went, now no one i know go's there it's not the same as it used to be
great video Sammy I was at the comp also and won a fair few prizes but there sure was a heap of little fish out on the reefs that made things difficult

24:15 never fished in Australia, but as much as you’re making a deal about his fish, it must be a giant. Congrats my man!
I came second in the biggest fish by the smallest margin in this comp years ago. Also got a red twice the size of yours which ended up being stonked by an absolute beast of red. I wish they didn't take it out of school holidays as that impacts families not from the area, but they tell me the comp has grown since doing so. 🤐 Either way, it is a great comp and have done it several times and hope to be back next year as the school aged children issue is no longer!
For clarification ,Dhufish and Pearl perch , same Genus but different species.
