In the same way it would be illegal to shoot a duck with a 20ga , even using #4 steel shot, if the gun has a a rifled barrel. As it is illegal to shoot ducks with a rifle.

read the muzzle loader aspect of the law, which clearly says that a muzzleloader with a smoothbore can not shoot a single projectile for coyote except during the deer season, but a single projectial shot from a rifled barrel is a rifle and can be hunted any time. clearly, this supports that the rifled barrel makes the firearm fall under the rifie requirements. so the same projectile is a slug ,in a smooth bore, or a bullet depending on rather the barrel is a smoothbore or rifled. clearly the law makes no pratical sense but antiquated langauge from before rifles were allowd in MA, was never properly define or worked out, leaving this mess. i mean, the use of a 300 win mag is legal for coyotes but not a smooth bore slug gun ? is there any logic there?

I haven't seen a coyote that nice since my days of running my traps in the White Mountains of Arizona in the late 1980's.... Unfortunately I couldn't see the shot you made on my phone... But it was a fine dog, with a fine pelt....

we shoot alot of coyotes mainly to cut down the over population, some get skinned, some just the tails, there are too many on the Cape. two attackes on people in two years. the racoon hide is still tacked up in the barn, tanned but not done into a hat.

There is a technical ATF argument about raised rifling vs groved rifling but that...applies to weapons larger than a 20ga. However, the case law established by smoothbore VS rifled blackpower weapons in MA, clearly defines any weapon with a fully rifled barrel a rifle.

Now i welcome you showing me different. I happen to know this issue was researched before the weapon in question was ever purchased, a certainty before the video was posted. I think we all can agree the the laws are poorly written and confusing. cape coyotes are well fed on pets, trash and handouts, they are big and healthy and usually have great fur.
