This is coming from the man who has covered his face in peanut butter. And drawn on his face with sharpie markers... But he's right, those probably were less effort.
Special thanks to all those people in spin class who must have agreed to be recorded. That class looked awesome. I think I'd have a hard time agreeing to let the internet watch me flail. I like classes without mirrors because I like to pretend I look anything like the instructor.
Thanks for the invite! But I live in Boston. If I'm ever in the area, I'll come by. (I need to call my gym and find out why there is a flashing light warning on the cycling classes. I can't try them.)
Carmen Berglund LOL when I say "Boston" I really mean Framingham, which is the Western suburbs. Cycle town is in Hingham, a town so south of Boston, which is 42 miles away from me or an hour in no traffic. I'm sure Erin is awesome, but that's unlikely with my life.
That bit in the interview where Chris is talking about missing the cycling class, I think he broke John. xD Great work this week, John! It's so awesome seeing you stick to your goals but also complain about and appreciate them. It's definitely #relatable lmao.
On one of the first few episodes, I made a comment like "Haha, I'm eating candy while watching this!" But now? I've exercised every day for the past week. This isn't solely because of 100 days; I'd been wanting to slim down for a while. But learning about the health benefits of exercising for 30 minutes a day and seeing someone I admire a lot go through it with such humor and relatability really helped. So thanks.
I'm having a terrible mental health and this is really cheering me up, thanks John, both for letting me laugh at you and inspiring me to use exercise to help my mental health.
I would love to hear bout how chris got back on track after being sick! i've had to pause workout programs due to sickness before, and since i don't have a personal trainer or anything i'm always unsure how to best get back into it...
Cycling classes where you ride along to the beat (such as Soul Cycle) are literally my favorite workout!!! They never get easier but are always so fun that sometimes I forget I'm dying for a little while.
In the new years I have been trying to work out more. Although I haven't been doing anything too intense, I can already feel a change. I have lost about 3 pounds so far (this has only been like two and a half weeks) and I have been having a lot more energy. I also found out that I love to dance! To anyone who is out there, keep going and stay motivated because I believe in you!
for a horrible moment I thought Chris was quitting! Looking forward to seeing him back =) You're inspiring me to meal plan and eat better (I have a really bad habit of starvation followed by binges due to laziness/being disorganised/not realising I'm hungry until I'm like.. really really hungry), so I'm only on my personal day 2, but already feeling the benefit of 3 balanced meals a day so yay!
God, I love these videos. Thanks, John and Chris, (and the whole team) for making them. I think I might have to get a F*CKING MAJESTIC shirt to wear on my runs. (I already have one that says "Yeah, No, Don't Put Me Down for Cardio"). I get a twisted sense of glee out of wearing it on a long run.
I'm loving the show.. and I also missed Chris! I feel like I want to be friends with Chris since I already feel like Johns friends just because I always work out listening to Dear JOHN and Hank. Maybe a Dear CHRIS and John podcast would be awesome. Keep it up guys! Hugs from you Brazilian nerdfighter.
I'm really proud of you. I've always had a very similar mind/body separation, prioritizing the "brains" over "brawn," and... just missing the whole point of having a healthy mind in a healthy body. If you ever get bored of reading excellent YA fiction, I'd suggest reading some of Plato's thoughts on the philosophical importance of fitness - it helped encourage my growth into exercise. Thanks again for posting these - you've become a source of inspiration, whether you meant to be or not :)
I wish Chris had been there too, but it is nice to see how REAL this is. (sometimes our partner won't be there. so nice to see you working through it anyway.) Keep up the good work John! Lookin' good!
Good job John, with those early cycling classes. I am getting up earlier myself. I work until midnight and have been trying to get up around 10 AM to get more time to exercise, meal prep for the day, and get a few chores done around the house to help my wife more. (One of my New Year's resolutions was to be more helpful on house chores through the week instead of cramming it all on Saturday, which makes my family nuts.) I started going to the YMCA on Monday, and went yesterday and today (Tuesday). The YMCA offers Free health assessments for members, and have one scheduled for tomorrow. This way I can get an idea of how to exercise smarter with my osteoarthritis in my left knee, without injuring myself again. ---PROGRESS REPORT: WEEK 3--- I was 303 lbs. when I had a physical in November before the holidays. I am happy to report, I have lost 14 lbs. in the 3 weeks since implementing my nutrition regiment, and now am down to 289 lbs.. I even had a cheat day on Saturday fro my office holiday party where many cheesecake bites, and at least a 6 pack of a local Copper Alt. beer from Zipline, a local brewery. So, the nutrition alone before the exercise regiment is paying off, even with a once a month cheat day.
Also I need a metal music spin class in my life. When I am on the bike it usually Amon Amarth, Killswitch Engage, Disturbed, The Skyrim Opening Song covered by Peter Hollens, and Tennegar Cavalry (a Mongolian metal band).
haha, don't be afraid to start small - activities you already enjoy doing, walks around your neighbourhood :D i'm part of a martial arts club and I've resolved to go 3 times a week instead of my normal 2, so i'm not doing much really hah. good luck with whatever you do!
John, first of all I applaud you for doing this. Secondly I adore these videos and love the emphasis on health. I've been exercising for years (strength training, hiit, cardio but also yoga and pilates). Which is a challenge being a mother of 2 so I get up before everyone else and do my workout at home. I focus on my health and love how I feel living such a healthy and active life. I also share the benefits for my mental health with you, it really influences every aspect of my life. Now that you love the benefits of regularly working out, please Push yourself to sticking with a healthy eating pattern. Find foods that you love, but are healthy. For me that's peanutbutter (you have healthy ones) and warm rice milk with cacao. But also fruit, lots of lovely fruit. And my best tip for you: love yourself. You are working so hard and doing great. You can do this. Give yourself some love and encouragement for what you do and keep sending yourself positive thoughts. I believe in you!
I've had an awful cough for a while now. I'm so sad that getting my heart rate up makes me feel like hacking my lungs out because exercise is a huge mental health booster for me as well. Watching you (and Chris when he isn't vomiting) is super inspirational, `though. Can't wait to get started myself.
I've replayed the bit where John is freestyle dancing in the spin class like 5 times it's just so great someone make a GIF. Also, I bloody love this channel. I'm legit gonna go for a cheeky 3.5km run rn.
I've been exercising more since school's back in session. My dorm is a ten minute walk from the school gym, I ride my bike to class (ten minute distance this semester), and being in charge of all of my meals tends to make me eat better. Nothing against my family, it's just shopping for myself means I can avoid unhealthy foods I know I'll eat too much of. I even found a farmer's market that's just a 15 minute bike ride from my dorm! I got some great tangerines and strawberries.
john your jaw in the interview parts is super defined! clearly the 100 days is working! I love spin too! great one! I'm stuggeling to stick to eating healthy lately!
I did those "get ups" (we called them "plank to push ups") in P.E. in high school. They're so difficult but I feel like they're a really great exercise!
Love this channel! Your videos are so funny and inspiring. It's fun to watch because I'm also doing my own 2 month challenge so it's nice to progress with someone. Looking forward to the next video!
im a rower and i have some feelings about the erg (rowing machine) bit. 1) if it's too easy, push the damper up. its the little switch on the side and you can push it up to 10 if you're feeling brave. 2) your form was okay but you're not getting max power. straighten your legs, then open your back, then bend your arms, and then reverse it - arms, back, legs. if you practice that you'll look and feel better on the erg and you'll pull better splits!!
I seriously love this channel so, so much. It might be my favorite, and I follow Wheezy Waiter, so that's saying something. I love that you did a spin class! I've never done one, but I've heard they're amazing because it's like a giant party.
I don't know about commiserating over those squats, but I will commiserate with Chris over the Noro virus!! Ugh it's the worst. I got it right after eating sushi one night, and now I have moved to Japan and can't stomach the idea of sushi months later. Feel better Chris,
Going strong!!!! .......Leg day is actually the one I like and look forward to the most :) I hate upper body, I have long hair and brushing it after upper body day....well...hurts.
Ugh now I want to go to a cycle class. Sadly I live on the Southside of Indy so we don't have a lot of these types of things nearby. And Carmel's just a little too far to travel for just a cycle class. I'll just have to find an alternative around here of some sort.
Those get ups are no joke! I'm not nearly as fit as John, so when my personal trainer had me do them at the gym yesterday I felt like I might die. 😂 You did great at them though John!
You make spinning sound more appealing that it actually is. Although that might be because I'm always the only one sweating, panting and dying half-way through the class at my gym.
I'm slightly obsessed with this channel.
Ten Minute History sameeeeeee. I actually look forward to them!!
Ten Minute History I`m obsessed with yours :)
YES! I love it too!

"I mean look at these Laura, they are perfectly sculpted. What would you change about them?" I died at that intro. lmao!
Meanwhile Laura is carefully calculating the correct supportive yet encouraging-of-more-exercise answer. She's so good :-)

"Fuck is this?? ...Is this for if you're pregnant with 17 babies need to pull open a car door??"
Why do I always forget how funny John is
You could be at the beach with your children holding a beach ball opening the car door, but John's response was funnier. :D

"Hardest I've ever worked to look so stupid" describes exercise perfectly.
This is coming from the man who has covered his face in peanut butter. And drawn on his face with sharpie markers... But he's right, those probably were less effort.

My favorite part about this channel is learning John curses like a normal human.
ArchAngelThomas You should read his books
John cursing is something that without fail brings me happiness. It just sounds so right coming from him, IDK why.
Becca Moses Or the vidcon episodes of beer and boardgames.
John already LOOKS healthier. He looks great!
The "God I miss Chris!" montage sent me into a fit of giggles. The bromance is strong with this one.
Very strong Bromance I think Chris might be bi curious 🎉
It's Carmen! It's "you've got the basics covered" Carmen!
+ aw yay!!!!
Amy nurse carmen!
Amy !!!!! I didn't even realize! thank you for pointing that out!!

5:00 Chris had me in tears.

Special thanks to all those people in spin class who must have agreed to be recorded. That class looked awesome. I think I'd have a hard time agreeing to let the internet watch me flail. I like classes without mirrors because I like to pretend I look anything like the instructor.

I love when John dances; it reminds me of when Sims dance.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This show needs more Chris.

In this episode, John opens a car door fucking majestically.

I'd love to learn more about mindfulness/meditation through 100 Days.

You looked fucking majestic opening that door, John. :)
Almost makes me want to try a spin class .... almost....
They're rad, although I wholeheartedly encourage NOT going at 6 AM.
That cycling class seems like a bizarre cult
Spin classes are fun, but make sure you get there early so your bike is adjusted properly for you... and maybe take your own seat.
gotta find the right one! If the music is bad the class is terrible. Hard to motivate!
If they didn't always have pop music I would be more inclined to go. Rock music is energetic too.
Working out with a friend or a group definitely makes it easier to push through. It's always nice to see other people suffering with you :)
John is %100 looking so much better than when he started!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE EPISODE WITH CARMEN!!!
++
Was thinking about skipping my workout today but now I am motivated!
Thank f* for a good sense of humour! Love u John. I'm doing this flying solo - so yeah I can relate.
I'm having a terrible mental health and this is really cheering me up, thanks John, both for letting me laugh at you and inspiring me to use exercise to help my mental health.
I would just like to say that I am really, REALLY enjoying this series. This was a fantastic episode. I love how real it is. Thank you!
The best workout rant ever recorded? Probably
Working out with people is ALWAYS better than working out by yourself. Shared suffering eases the pain.
I would love to hear bout how chris got back on track after being sick! i've had to pause workout programs due to sickness before, and since i don't have a personal trainer or anything i'm always unsure how to best get back into it...

I'll try the squats, John. I'm going to acro today so might as well ... hopefully I don't die!
Good going John! I have never ordered something in the same speed - as I ordered the F-ing majestic shirt
PS: for some reason, I just love to hear you swearing
I love these videos! They have inspired me to start being healthy :) Thank you.
God, I love these videos. Thanks, John and Chris, (and the whole team) for making them. I think I might have to get a F*CKING MAJESTIC shirt to wear on my runs. (I already have one that says "Yeah, No, Don't Put Me Down for Cardio"). I get a twisted sense of glee out of wearing it on a long run.

that cycling class looks suuuuuuper fun.
unfortunately, i don't!!! you know anyone in the atlanta area you can recommend?
I really enjoy the brief glimpses of the set as a whole, it's fun to see behind the scenes. :]
This experiment is like one long Fitness for Nerds video and I love it.
This series is amazing. It's both motivational and hilarious with John and Chris cracking jokes all the time. Keep up the great work!!
I just discovered that I love rowing machines!! They're so fun, work a lot of your body, and aren't completely killer

Most of my experiences with circuit training can be described as "hated doing it, loved having done it."
You are doing so great! I am so hyped that this is doing so much good for you in every way, I really want to go back into sports again myself!
John really loves jam and bread haha
That cycling class looks really fun!
Love how John's off-beat during the class. I can relate!! I've been off-beat during every cardio class I've ever been to ha ha!
This is a really great series!
I am also thankful Chris didn't photograph his vomit 😂
John is so whiny and funny. I love it.
After hearing about John's mental health improvement, i went for my first ever jog today. Today is my day 1!
Ha! Chris never keeps a food photo diary regardless if he's eating or not :D
Feel better soon Chris!
Hey there's the nice nurse Carmen!
Funny that So Be Fit is right by Mama Carollas and the Dancing Donut, two of my favorite indulgences. Hope to see you at Butler soon!
I hope Chris is feeling better now, for the sake of both of you.
camriarnr I am a ok!!
This was hilarious hahaha love these videos!
1:45 John is living every gym bros' fantasy, getting a pump while every lady in the gym has their eyes glued to him.
"Are you joking r serious?" She's so motivational !

Every workout class I am ALWAYS the one off beat. I've just owned it, and stand in the back where I'm less distracting for everyone else.
im a rower and i have some feelings about the erg (rowing machine) bit.

Carmen Berglund thanks!!... obviously he was !!!
4:50 John is looking at him with such expectations
You guys are so funny, i love it!!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets belligerent in the face of intense exercise!
I don't know about commiserating over those squats, but I will commiserate with Chris over the Noro virus!! Ugh it's the worst. I got it right after eating sushi one night, and now I have moved to Japan and can't stomach the idea of sushi months later. Feel better Chris,
I love cycling classes. I've only been to a couple but they're really really fun. ... Need to check if the gym I currently go to has any ...
Going strong!!!!
.......Leg day is actually the one I like and look forward to the most :)
I hate upper body, I have long hair and brushing it after upper body day....well...hurts.
I'm gonna try an indoor cycling class myself today. SO PUMPED!
It's not, thankfully, at 6am though. 6pm works fine for me :)
I'm a rower in college and John, if the rowing machine ever feels easy, YOU ARE NOT GOING HARD ENOUGH
I absolutely love this chanel.
This Series has honestly motivated me to actually do some sports and it's going great so far :)
"engaging them in riddles" no timmy you can't have any food until you solve this riddle!
Damn, I wonder if there are Carmens at the indoor cycling classes around here as well. I gotta check it out.
Ugh now I want to go to a cycle class. Sadly I live on the Southside of Indy so we don't have a lot of these types of things nearby. And Carmel's just a little too far to travel for just a cycle class. I'll just have to find an alternative around here of some sort.
Let's hear more of these Chris jokes I'm only now hearing about!
The bromance 😂
Those get ups are no joke! I'm not nearly as fit as John, so when my personal trainer had me do them at the gym yesterday I felt like I might die. 😂 You did great at them though John!
You make spinning sound more appealing that it actually is. Although that might be because I'm always the only one sweating, panting and dying half-way through the class at my gym.
