Madeleine Benson YES! I watch these videos not because I am attempting to "get in shape" or anything, but because I love seeing and hearing about progress in all its forms. And talking about them openly is most definitely progress!
Since these comments have turned into a (completely deserved) Sarah appreciation thread, I'll add mine: Sarah was in the same group as me for the Nerdcon book club discussion, and she was just as super smart and nice as you'd expect. I was mortified to discover hours later that I had spinach in my teeth the whole time I was talking to her, but she was gracious and didn't even blink at my green teeth. A very classy lady.
well, ( and this is as someone who is moderately active last 6 years), I believe John had a video saying he turned 40 a while back, and we assume age difference isn't more than 3 years ( to be safe). Sarah was boxing in her 20-ies and we assume she didn't start at 29 but at 23. She is doing regular physical activity last 13 years at least. Now to get to the point. If she didn't have multiple few months breaks her fitness level didn't decline but steadily rose with each practice ( little bit at the time) and in those assumed 13 years a little bit at the time stacks up to quite a lot. And besides [ need and English nerd to tell me if these two actually go together] what I know of and marshal thing you practice- so from boxing to judo to capo-era standard session time is 2 hour, even 2:30. And in 100 days John and Chris are doing 1 hour sessions, so that would be half the time Sarah is used to. And adding in the length of time she is doing things like this she isn't really exerting herself.
I want to be Sarah when I grow up... fitness wise at least. She's fierce AF. Also mad props to John and Chris, these workouts look brutal and y'all are pushing through!
even non-fitness wise! she's incredibly smart, she did tons of awesome stuff when she was a curator, TAA is amazing and her career is super awesome and she's a great partner and mom!! SARAH URIST FOR PRESIDENT
What makes this different than any other work out thing I have ever seen is its honesty. "I ate poorly", "Chris was late", "Sarah joined us today", "I had a hamstring issue", "This was nice", "This was hell", "I didn't like this workout", "This workout was fun". It reminds me that when I am pursuing a healthy life style it won't be perfect and not to give up when I make a mistake. It makes it easier to keep going and persevere when necessary.
When I initially saw John's cereal picture, I thought, "Where's the milk?" And then I remember that it's John, so therefore there is no milk. Only water.
DAMN, SARAH. So proud of all of you! You guys are doing so, so well and it's really inspiring! I have to admit, though, that I did catch up on 100 Days rather than actually attending Fitness For Nerds this past Sunday...
PROGRESS IS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE JOHN!!! I'm with you there. I had a breakdown on Thursday and ended up self-harming, though my medications have been better for a year and my diet has improved. It doesn't get better all at once - it's only bit-by-bit.
Also this video is a reminder that all the women involved are amazing and fantastic and so strong. Suzanna and Sarah both look amazing when they box. I kinda admire it. Wish I could box like that, but I don't have any experience, nor the health. (Maybe if I was doing 100 days, lol.)
TJ Metamorphosis It definitely isn't a straight line, but is sounds like you are putting in some amazing work to get to where you want to be a little bit at a time. I know when I have set backs I have to keep reminding myself that all the progress I have made will always outrank the set back, even if it doesn't feel that way at the time.
That's what I'm working on at the moment, is reminding myself that a bad day doesn't outweigh all the good ones. But it isn't easy sometimes. I think we both know that. Thanks for the encouragement. :) I hope you continue to do well, too. We've got this.
The Yeti kicks some serious butt! And John both you and Chris have made a crap load of progress, keep it up - you guys are super motivational to me (I just started MMA around when you started 100 days, after almost 10 years of not being in martial arts)
Sean Larkin I think when she started doing the art assignment. Maybe sooner. But I think she still remains a mystical creature that is frequently heard of but seldom seen haha
Sean Larkin I actually think she never had that big of a problem. I recall both of them mentioning that she wanted her career (and private life?) to be separate from her husband's success, which is reasonable :) I might be misremembering though!
I think the first time she was actually on camera was when John had a Google Hangout with President Obama. When John mentioned that Sarah was pregnant, Obama asked to see her baby bump, and all of a sudden there was a Yeti! With a face and everything! The Art Assignment came out a good while after that.
Was I the only person blown away at Sarah's triceps and shoulders during the planks? Jesus Christ, she's in shape as fuck. And goddamn, does she know how to throw a straight right. Sarah is so badass.
I love it when Sarah joins you on this channel. Just when I thought I could not be more inspired by Sarah! She is such an empowering badass! Also on a fitness journey at the moment. Good luck John and Chris for the last 40ish days!
I was so sad the first time that y'all had a boxing day that Sarah wasn't there, because I knew that she used to box. Now, however my dream to see Sarah box has come true. And dang girl, smart, funny, beautiful, and athletic. Sarah inspires me!
Sarah being a great boxer inspires me SO much. I'm in my twenties and want to take up boxing, but I'm discouraged because women and upper arm strength, blah blah. Also, when a nurse checked my blood pressure recently, they commented, "You have the smallest arms I've ever seen." Seeing Sarah was amazing. I need to box now.
This series has genuinely been motivating me to go to the gym more! I am usually so stressed out and nervous about going, but I've been much better about going even just once or twice a week since I started watching this series. Thanks guys :)
ok I was confused why Sarah would join for what looks like the hardest thing, and then be doing way better than John and Chris, but that she used to box so that makes more sense.
Yall are giving me courage for my kickboxing class tonight! Its by far the hardest/scariest class that I have in my regimen and I always want to cancel right before. But its really fun! Mostly I want to be as cool as Sarah, gaddamn!
Both of those workouts were no joke, great job! Also I actually really love the feeling after a shoulder workout of not being able to lift your hand above your head
I'm sorry about the panic attack, John. They can come when you least expect them. I'm so proud that you are still trying with the meditation and I wish that it was helping you. I guess as long as the spaces between panic attacks is getting larger then you are making progress. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for sharing such an intimate journey with us. PS Have you tried group meditation? It can be a more helpful experience.
I did Muay Thai for 2 years, and I have to say, it is just complicated dancing. I've left it now I've left uni but this video has made me realise how much I miss those workouts. They're hell, but they're so fulfilling, especially sparring at the end of one. How good do you feel that even though you fucked your body you can still keep a guard and take a hit. Man, there is nothing like that adrenaline rush.
this reminded me of my belt test 2 weeks back, cherry on top was 7 sparring rounds, in a row. And no, you don't have any energy left after round 3. you need to show stubbornness and/or perseverance, you pick the word, and power through to the end. But it's a good felling ( understatement alert) when you made it through without backing out.
The boxing thing sounds like so much fun. I remember I work out done in high school, we were partnered, and each trying to hit the other with an open palm. I think it was the most fun I ever had working out. I have done similar work outs before in karate but never constantly. I would like to try to incorporate it into my work outs now.
Days 55-58, on which we learn that Sarah is both way fitter and cooler than both John and Chris.
+ well we already knew she was cooler.

GrandIntellect +
+ I want Vlogsisters (in-law).
GrandIntellect +
I really enjoy watching Sarah be way better at everything than the boys.
Can we take a minute to appreciate how openly John just spoke about his panic attack? Because I'm overwhelmed with happiness.
Madeleine Benson YES! I watch these videos not because I am attempting to "get in shape" or anything, but because I love seeing and hearing about progress in all its forms. And talking about them openly is most definitely progress!

Your wife is a badass, John.

Watching her box made me want to learn to box.

The entire comments section of this video is how amazing Sarah is and it fills me with joy.
Since these comments have turned into a (completely deserved) Sarah appreciation thread, I'll add mine: Sarah was in the same group as me for the Nerdcon book club discussion, and she was just as super smart and nice as you'd expect. I got to have a nice conversation with Sarah at Nerdcon too at the rug making station. She was so gracious with everyone.
Sarah is incredible!

I miss the old golf clip
it's weird you can become nostalgic to a 1 second clip
Ali Jardz I think it will return now that Chris isn't in Arizona anymore :)

Ali Jardz But Arizona is so pretty!!

Also, Sarah is terrifying.

I love it when the yetti shows up!!!! 😍❤
I already liked Sarah, but after this video I'm definitely a fan!
She looks like Kate Todd from NCIS, one super impressive woman
Awesome seeing Sarah getting in on the action! GO, GO WOMAN! WHOO!
Wow Sarah is such a good boxer! That's awesome! I'd love to try it
+
How can Sarah do all that and make it look like the easiest thing?! I mean she got bangs in her face, does she not sweat?
Mareike +
yeah, she wasn't even trying

that's exactly what i thought!

Yes, we need more Sarah-oids! :)
sarah is amazing
can we make sarah a perminant group member. i mean they make such a good trio
Think about all the awesomely awkward group workout photos there could be!

No, please no.
So Sarah's officially my favorite. She always was, but this just affirms it.
As much as John may not look super graceful, his improvement in less than 60 days is incredibly impressive.
Also Sarah is so in shape wowza
To be fair, *my* heart rate jumped when you guys were sparring, and I'm just sitting on the couch! Time to cross boxing right off my list...
Megan A actually, that might be a good reason to learn boxing. It can help to train yourself not to panic when adrenaline spikes.
We're all just in love with Sarah in the comments section; I love it!
I love the discussion of the impact on mental health, I find it very helpful
While john was boxing all i could think about was the fitness for nerds video. I kept saying "dodge, deflect" haha.

Seeing those cheerios you had for breakfast 0:37 reminded me how you eat cereal with water instead of milk and I shuddered. :P
Oh gawd, I had forgotten he does that!
Nikki Effects I tried it once and now I can't forget.
I want to be Sarah when I grow up... fitness wise at least. She's fierce AF. Also mad props to John and Chris, these workouts look brutal and y'all are pushing through!

Niharika Shukla Oh totally agree. She's the bomb.
More Sarah please!! She's awesome!!
These videos just get better and better! I love the addition of Sarah during the boxing workout.
Always nice to see the Artist Formally Known as The Yeti.
Damn Sarah!

-_- Eww, I forgot.
EWW I forgot too!!!!
Those plank get-up things, Sarah has amazing arms
I think watching John sparring has just become the highlight of my week.
Ugh Sarah's arms are to die for, she's so cool! I remember John talking about how boxing is how John re-met Sarah after high school!
DAMN, SARAH.
So proud of all of you! You guys are doing so, so well and it's really inspiring! I have to admit, though, that I did catch up on 100 Days rather than actually attending Fitness For Nerds this past Sunday...

when did Sarah stop being the yeti? she seems really comfortable on camera
Sean Larkin I think when she started doing the art assignment. Maybe sooner. But I think she still remains a mystical creature that is frequently heard of but seldom seen haha
Sarah has a show on TH-cam called the Art Assignment that's actually pretty fantastic, so I don't think she has any issues being camera shy :)
Sean Larkin I actually think she never had that big of a problem. I recall both of them mentioning that she wanted her career (and private life?) to be separate from her husband's success, which is reasonable :) I might be misremembering though!
moxiousch I'm pretty sure that was it :)

I'm so glad we're getting to see more of Sarah! She is so inspiring to me
It is so nice seeing Sarah join in on the work outs! YOU GO GIRL!!!!
Boxing and Sarah, this episode has two of my favourite things from this show !
I really want to see John and Chris take a Ballet class
Was I the only person blown away at Sarah's triceps and shoulders during the planks? Jesus Christ, she's in shape as fuck.
And goddamn, does she know how to throw a straight right.
Sarah is so badass.
I love it when Sarah joins you on this channel. Just when I thought I could not be more inspired by Sarah! She is such an empowering badass! Also on a fitness journey at the moment. Good luck John and Chris for the last 40ish days!
So motivational and inspiring to see Sarah own that workout!
Sarah is literally my hero. Can she be in more of these? ❤️❤️
I love how all the comments are about how amazing Sarah is. She's a beast!
Both guys: Complaining all the way. Sarah: Just pushing through like a boss.
I was so sad the first time that y'all had a boxing day that Sarah wasn't there, because I knew that she used to box. Now, however my dream to see Sarah box has come true. And dang girl, smart, funny, beautiful, and athletic. Sarah inspires me!
This series is so goddamn entertaining! Props to all the folks involved on making me look forward to it every week!

Holy Toledo Sarah has awesome arm muscles! And as we already knew, she is such a badass!!!
You guys did good too, John and Chris.
Sarah is a beast!!! SO IMPRESSED
"She remains incredibly impressive at this, and at most things" aw
Seeing this video in my sub box motivated me to work out when I really didn't want to. Thanks!
Sarah is so amazing, what can't she do?!
it's really sweet hearing you call your wife impressive
Wow, Sarah is RIPPED. She's amazing!
Sarah makes this all look so easy! You go girl!
Sarah is an amazing human being. John and Hank are two lucky dudes with amazingly talented, funny, and brilliant wives.
I feel like it would be fun to work out with John...he's always talking and I think it would make it so much easier!
To the people in comments who just found out that they really like Sarah, she runs the YT Channel "The Art Assignment" and does a great job
The initial music that plays during their boxing workout makes me feel super motivated.
Your wife is a boss!! My new hero!
Yall are giving me courage for my kickboxing class tonight! Its by far the hardest/scariest class that I have in my regimen and I always want to cancel right before. But its really fun!

Sarah is fit AF and it's AWESOME! Keep rockin girl!
Sarah is so fit I love it
I love getting ideas for my own workouts through your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Sarah is a boss!
Sarah is a beast! I've never had a workout or athletic inspiration before, but Sarah might just be it.
John anyone who has trained before knows the I can't lift my own arm feeling. You're not rediculous. You're awesome, don't forget it.
Sarah is definitely goals. 💜💜💜
I'm definitely going to incorporate some of the exercises from this video. Super helpful! Also, Sarah is awesome!
Omg go Sarah!!!! She's so amazing😍😍😍
Amazing progress by both of you! Very motivating to see the great improvements!
Both of those workouts were no joke, great job! Also I actually really love the feeling after a shoulder workout of not being able to lift your hand above your head
Sarah is a straight up beast! You go girl!
I never would have guessed that Sarah was such a buff badass. Boxing looks like the most fun/Hell.
Damn, Sarah was totally rocking it! She looked like she was hardly breaking a sweat

Go Sarah! John, your wife's my hero.
Now I watch the show for Sarah because damn she's so strong!
Sarah slays my life

Hell yeah, Sarah! Love a powerful woman!
The degree to which Sarah is better than you at exercise delights me.
Sarah is so badass. Good work too John and Chris!
I think I already commented the same thing when I watched this last year, but the more we get to know the Yeti, the more incredible she is!
Sarah is INCREDIBLE!!!!
This series is relationship goals
