  • If you’ve lost motivation or if you’re feeling bored with your English practice, here are 4 steps to find flow and enjoy your English learning practice.
Flow - or flow state - is the feeling of being so absorbed in an activity that you lose track of time. You’re fully present and you’re enjoying the activity.
You might be familiar with flow state theory and finding flow with hobbies such as painting, singing, playing piano, or running.
You can also find flow in your English language practice to spark motivation and renew your focus.
In this lesson, I share 4 simple steps you can follow to find flow and renew your motivation to learn English.

I sincerely appreciate the hard work you do to help us improve our English, and I'd like to elaborate briefly on the last step you've mentioned. Based on my own experience, I've noticed that when I am doing things that I don't initially like, but consider crucial for my improvement, after a while they become less painful and, after another set of repetitions, even pleasant, opening up possibilities to create a flow state. From this perspective, expanding our comfort zone reveals more opportunities to enter a flow state.

Excellent lesson and pinpointing of what we ESL instructors are trying so hard to inculcate: Intention!!! What I find universally is the comment ''I want to improve my speaking, but I get stuck''. I believe they're not focused on their end goal. It looms too large. Like anything else language learning takes time, boring repetition and, mostly, consistent determination.
Most people do want it but not enough to work that hard!
    It's that simple
Thank you for YOUR hard work

I find incredibly useful to identify my golden hour to avoid wasting time and that way to be able to be more productive.
I also remember when you recommended us it´s better to think small rather than big as far as setting tasks is concerned. obviously I´m referring to focussing on multi-tasking. Our brain likes organization and a step by step process

Thank you, Annemarie, it's great watching your videos.
To be leveling with you, when I get stuck in a rut doing the same things over and over again, I think I may need some time off and go with the flow and find my flow state
So I strive to keep myself busy with creating new lessons for me and my students and make it fun as much as possible.

Hello Annemarie, thank you for the lesson !
I enjoy shadowing with a script.
When I can follow the speaker without the script and sound as the same as the speaker,
    I feel so nice.
After the practice my brain needs kind of fuel,
I usually enjoy some sweets later.

This is such an incredible video content and totally applicable to any skill you wish to focus on. I loved the part “not to force the flow state” as it would be opposite of what you want to reach. I think everybody needs to try out, what works best for their individual flow according to personal life circumstances. Thank you again😊
