The concept of diversity ignores one basic fact about human beings: they are drawn to people who are like them, not necessarily in terms of race, but rather their opinions, attitudes, intellect and, most importantly, sense of humour - a characteristic that blood-thirsty, psychotic religious radicals seem to lack.

    • @unclegoon347
      @unclegoon347 ปีที่แล้ว

It’s also paradoxical - based on the concept people can only feel represented if they see someone who shares their ethnicity.
Sounds like pandering to racists to me.

People used travel to experience different cultures ,there was never a need for those cultures to return home with you except perhaps as tourists who would leave and return home after a short period of time .In my childhood in the 50s every shop had a collection box for the black babies .Evertbody wd dutifully deposit their coins in the box but never envisaged that the babies wd grow up and want to come to our country and settle in it .Multi culturalism puts fear in all of us .We are most at ease and happy in a homogenous society 😮

When immigrants immigrate into different country or culture other than their own, they must assimilate,,, they must become like the people or a country they immigrate to they must assimilate,,, otherwise, there is no point in them immigrating to a new country or culture,,, why is that so hard to understand you must assimilate to the country you immigrate to otherwise stay where you are

How did diversity become a virtue? There is a national identity of each country, at least from where I stand. Freedom, increasingly in the West means we have been inundated by Muslim studies, instead of the other way round, such as Western studies and civilization. We hesitate using Christianity for some reason, while Muslim studies is promoted as if they have no bloody past, only what helped forge our Western ideals. Why is it that we don't look at their past with slavery, only our own? There are Muslim countries where slavery is just a part of life. It feels to me as if former Christian countries are still knocking themselves about, when the West did in fact leave it behind?

The word meritocracy implies equal opportunity based on individual capacity, drive and efficiency. The drive for diversity at the cost of competition and equality is very dangerous for the future.

    • @CCc-sb9oj

It benefits those at the top, cheaper labour leads to increased business profits. For the traditional working classes it is a disaster but the people on top will gladly sacrifice them for the 'greater overall benefit to society' in terms of increased gdp and overall wealth. Just don't mention where that extra wealth is going and how it is contributing to the increasing gap between the rich and the poor.
This wealth gap is offset in countries with robust and generous welfare provision like Ireland, but they will come for the welfare next because with low wages/cheap labour and high welfare what is the incentive for people at the bottom to work?
Nations and their people are becoming playthings for the Neoliberal elite, and it is never the people at the top who bear the consequences of their actions. The Irish taxpayer had to reimburse the bondholders/gamblers and those most vocal about open borders and diversity are the most likely to live in mansions out the country or in affluent neighbourhoods with an almost non-existent share of immigrants compared to everywhere else.
Diversity itself is not bad, and taking refugees from warzones is a virtuous act (the fact that it is a virtuous act is forgotten these days) and I'm not arguing that all immigration should be stopped and that countries shouldn't help war refugees, but what I am saying is that it must be managed in a practical way and not a gullible big hearted way and it must be done in a way that does not disadvantage the working classes or undermine the social fabric of any region (20 migrants being put in a village of 30 people for example).
The rise in far right rhetoric and racism has been caused by the very neoliberal elites of society who have caused there to be competition between those at the bottom - the country's traditional working classes and unskilled migrants.
Diversity is a beautiful thing, but not when it is managed like this.

The bone of contention seems to be the integration of Islamic beliefs into western democratic systems. Even Islamic societies themselves are grappling with that issue, whether to be more open or less so. I think India is a good example where a Muslim community has existed for a thousand years but has always remained distinct and separate. Under Nehru and Gandhi India was a secular state, treating people as individuals was the priority. As we move away from the secular ideal, and group identity becomes more important, then the ideal of diversity becomes more difficult to achieve.

    • @martinsaunders2942

The problem with India on independence was that the Muslims refused to be part of a secular state, they insisted on having their own Islamic country… Hence partition and Pakistan and East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh). Muslims will not integrate into other societies..they demand and their religion requires, that others integrate to their culture and society.

Forcing people to deal with and be around others they don't want to be is not going to do anything besides cause problems. And who exactly decides when a neighborhood, workplace, school or anywhere else is "diverse" enough?! As far as scools and workplaces, those who are not skilled or have actually earned the position are just taking away from those that have earned the right to be there. And generally, those that have not earned something also show no appreciation for what they have, but feel other things should be handed to them just because!

A group of people can only be successful if they share equal values and goals. Look at the French Foreign Legion. That is the only organisation where multiethniticy really works, because they all share the mutual value "Legio Patria Nostra" (The Legion is our family). Everybody living the way they want under a government without equal values doesn't work. Especially if those who enter a society don't attribute to it's success but draw from it.

I couldn't agree more .We have lost our identity ,OUR culture, our way.of life, the way we dress ,the way we learn, what we think.is right and wrong, and our laws and religions.I just hope it's not too late to do something about it. These people who are taking over our country need to be dispersed, if they won't integrate properly they should be sent back to their own countries and tell them to get on with it and stop demanding that we change to their ways.I fear for this country and the western world's values and ideals. I don't want that for my country.I want to walk down the streets without fear, hear English speaking voices and understand what people are saying to me without heavily accented words or no English at all. There's going to be a revolution one day but it will be the end of the free world as all these jihadists and extreme criminal groups are infiltrating our country We are allowing fanatic islamists to come to our country and there will be so many eventually that we won't stand a chance if and when they decide to take over the government by force as is the norm for them in their own countries Wake up Britain. .

There is no stopping multiculturalism now. The world is shrinking in every which way. Faster transportation, mass tourism, international students, global trade, international media, the English language, global sports, the internet, modern communications, and intermarriage, are all bringing people together on an enormous scale. Low native birthrates, and the associated need for migrant labor, are doing the same. Since it is inevitable and irreversible, I just accept it.
Oh, and I trust many of the foreigners as much or more than I trust many of my fellow countrymen. The only countries that have few, or no foreigners now tend to be a handful of economic basket cases.

The few that come from others is due to the education based on european culture that those others received in the us. The others don't add value. They are in the anglosphere purely to avail of the many benefits that they do not get in their own nations - because the people of their nations don't build successful systems like the west does.
