Folks, I don’t get it. Lack of hydrogen infrastructure should not be a problem. All Hyundai dealerships should have an Electrolysis (to fracture H2O) and storage tank (to store the hydrogen) from which Nexo customers can come by and fuel up. In addition, similar to the way I get liquid propane delivered to my house and stored in a 100 gallon tank to be used throughout the winter, can’t a similar setup be available where a delivery company like Air Products can come to my house and top off a 200 gallon tank every 2-3 weeks? Filling up the Nexo would be as simple as refilling a liquid propane tank (obviously with the safety precautions necessary for hydrogen gas dispensing). It would be done at home and, for long drives, at any Hyundai dealership in the U.S. Forget gas stations. That’s last century’s solution.
I Work at Capitol Hyundai, the exclusive Northern California Silicon Valley provider of the NEXO. I totally understand the anxiety of self parking, but the car has many Sensors, eyes where we don't and it is pretty cool when we trust the machine. If any one is interested they are welcome to reach out if you are located in the Bay Area.
I'm honestly surprised oil companies haven't invested more in infrastructure. If BEVs become the norm gas stations are essentially dead, but if fuel cells become the norm they will still have a product to sell to consumers.
Fuel cells have an added advantage....they can take advantage of the intermittent nature of wind and solar. if you use wind and solar to make hydrogen, it allows you to effectively store their intermittent outputs of energy. Also, fuel cells allow apartment dwellers than cannot charge their cars to enjoy the clean energy. While pure electric cars are more efficient, they require steady sources of electricity, long charge times and you have to be able to charge them at home to get the cost savings. I hope fuel cells win this battle.
I live only a few miles away from a couple of hydrogen stations in NYC. I am seriously considering the Toyota Mirai but I will definitely check out the Nexo before I sign a lease.
You talk about how batteries lose their potential in the cold, but gases expand amd contract as well as change their volume and pressure according to temperature. If it gets too cold, the gas will be more dense than usual while in the heat it will be less dense and take up more volume.
It's much more practical for passengers. Especially if you were to be stuck sitting in the middle of the back seat in a Mirai straddling the giant center tank.
Loved the parking feature good for seniors. I wonder how long it took for the parking and exiting parking? Just wanted to know how many times you gonna honked at? Time it next time Tommy. You can time it off the main rolling camera. As always another good one.
It's great they target this segment. Crossovers make a lot of sense for a lot of people in urban areas today. You have some advantages of an SUV yet you don't have to drive and park a truck-sized behemoth around a city. Now, if they only removed like half of the useless stuff from this car, I could consider buying it..
Recently I changed to this car, and I am really satisfied with this car. If you are about to change a car and have a H2 stantion nearby, just get this. You won't regret!!
In my view hydrogen are better than electric i think and obviously it takes times to build a station. In early there are no ev station only petrol pump station are there ev station r built later slowly and slowly similarly if we want then we also can build hydrogen station slowly and slowly
I think the pop out handles are great if you live in urban cities where people will randomly try to open your car door while you're stopped at a red light.
I just found one at a dealer a couple hours away and the price is $60k. It says you can get $25k off the limited version. The lease price was $3,500 down and $1,017/month for 36 months. I don't know where you saw them leased for less than $400/month. I'm bummed since there are 3 different fueling stations in my town.
I have wanted the industry to go H2 for a long time now. I know that H2 is a volatile substance. At just 4% concentration it is flammable, at just 8% it can be explosive. Many people associate H2 with the Hindenburg and that is understandable. Easing those fears is going to be tough sell. One worry I would have, in this country at least, is that there are plenty of idiots that still insist on smoking while fueling. That is just a disaster waiting to happen. I think that if there was a nationwide H2 infrastructure established, those stations would have to be along the lines of what Or and NJ have, full service attendants. That of course would add to the cost of the fuel. All in all, I do not see this as being mainstream across the country for at least 50 years and it will take some serious kick backs from the federal government to make that happen.
If the car can park itself, just program it to interact with the fuel station -- car parks in an exact spot, a robotic arm extends which finds the fueling port, iris opens -- all connections are verified tight before any fuel begins to dispense. Problem solved.
the center console layout is similar to that of Kona electric. it would have been a hit with H2 but producing H2 is expensive and costs too much electricity and you end up with an expensive car and you got to pay for H2 which let's say costs about more than half of the cost using conventional fuels such as petrol or diesel to drive the same distance..
If you are going to parallel park in a narrow spot, you have to get pretty close to the other cars. It's unavoidable. The other option is to choose not to park there.
At 5:28 the air rushing in is to give us the Oxygen and not Hydrogen which by the way is already there in a highly compressed state in the hydrogen tank.
The maintenance of these stations are nightmare. The natural and bio gas stations are the same kind. There is so many expensive components that fail time to time and since its so regulated for the safety reasons you need to shut down the whole station to fix it.
one cool thing about hydrogen is you can go to Grainger and buy a hydrogen generator for 17,000 dollars and it will power several cars and your entire home and you can run diesel motors with hydrogen so you still could have an F350... no ore electric, heat or fuel bills for about the same as solar
As a 2015 Nissan Leaf driver, I don't see the benefit when I can charge at home. Plus my leaf cost about $7,000 dollars. I am saving up my hard earned dollars for the base modle Cyber truck.
We have a Hydrogen fueling station in our city. I think it can only handle 20 cars per day... But here in the UK, they cost £68,000 or £1000 per month plus £6000 upfront. Crazy prices. Why would I pay £28,000 more for this over a model 3? It is basically the cost of 2 Konas!

It's funny how the spot was to small for him to be comfortable parking in , but the car is like Nahhh it'll be fine 😂
He got nowhere close to the cars to be honest, if I was parking in there I'd drive down to the inch close lol
Close? That's nothing. When you nudge then that's close 🤣
I'd love love love to own one of these funky fururistic cars but sadly there are just no fueling stations anywhere 😭
One thing I wish manufactures would stop doing is painted silver buttons. They never wear well.
id take that over gloss black buttons any day
Aluminum backlit buttons?
@@beastp9569 no, silver painted plastic buttons
Better than piano black
Hydrogen Is Getting Into Scene Now.Hopefully In 5 Years Things Is Going To Change Alot.
That thing is gorgeous. Love the styling! Thanks Tommy, great review.
Looks like a much better designed vehicle than the Toyota Mirai.
Good review.
I guess they made the car a crossover because that is the type of car with the greatest demand today.
Cool car and most people prefer buttons to the touch screen. If Your touchscreen dies you'll be screwed.the button look premium.
In my view hydrogen are better than electric i think and obviously it takes times to build a station. In early there are no ev station only petrol pump station are there ev station r built later slowly and slowly similarly if we want then we also can build hydrogen station slowly and slowly
Hydrogen cars are more environmentally friendly cars than electric cars. Many countries have to build hydrogen charging stations.
Even better, repurpose the existing petrol stations so we don't need to be building more than necessary
I think the pop out handles are great if you live in urban cities where people will randomly try to open your car door while you're stopped at a red light.
Most cars are locked automatically when car in drive mood or neutral
The 350ish range is practical for long drives based on how long I can hold off a bathroom break.
What do you think about used ones? I’m looking at one for only $15k. It’s a 2019 with less than 30,000 miles
“Its a car youve never seen”
How the hell havent i, a car psycho, seen this?
“Because you can only drive it in Cali”
Ah
Because of your video, we just bought it now. Thank you Tommy!
the center console layout is similar to that of Kona electric. it would have been a hit with H2 but producing H2 is expensive and costs too much electricity and you end up with an expensive car and you got to pay for H2 which let's say costs about more than half of the cost using conventional fuels such as petrol or diesel to drive the same distance..
They had to fuel stations in Central Florida I will get one
To know if a space is long enough for parallel park, Just measure the diagnostic distance + few feet. The less the more back and forth
The maintenance of these stations are nightmare. The natural and bio gas stations are the same kind. There is so many expensive components that fail time to time and since its so regulated for the safety reasons you need to shut down the whole station to fix it.
Noone: How are you gonna cover the massive fuel cells?
Hyundai: BUTTONS galore!!!
one cool thing about hydrogen is you can go to Grainger and buy a hydrogen generator for 17,000 dollars and it will power several cars and your entire home and you can run diesel motors with hydrogen so you still could have an F350... no ore electric, heat or fuel bills for about the same as solar
Thanks for info. HA.HA.HA
As a 2015 Nissan Leaf driver, I don't see the benefit when I can charge at home. Plus my leaf cost about $7,000 dollars. I am saving up my hard earned dollars for the base modle Cyber truck.
Very interesting 🧐 I would like to try one out!
This makes me so happy. The main reason I can't stand cities is because of the air pollution and car noise. This is a miracle come true
Nice tech.
First time seen on the Fast Lane.
Thanks, fast bros !
I love the styling. They should add to the family, maybe an all electric and then a gas powered version. I'd buy one of the other two since I live in Minnesota.
I would love to own a fuel cell here in FL. I would think that Fuel Cell stations would be easier to build than charging stations for EV.
Same and have incentive for these cars since you going to promote these type of cars and have more hydrogen stations
In my culture, parallel parking is a rite of passage.
Is there anything like a MPG figure and what about cost of fuel ?
MPG its rated at 60-65 63 combined and $12-15 per Gal- Nexo has 11 gal tank $130 to refuel at current rates. but if we create more facilities that produce it that price will go down
It’s probably not expensive since you said that if we have the most of it
@@larryspiller15 you are 100% correct sir, in fact rescesher are looking into natural way to make with pants. But the other problem with 3lectric car is the Lithium battery there is only a Finite available. In order for electric car to shine where gonna need more or another way to store the power.
@@mrfear619 h2 is not measured in gallons
@@TheoPhilpot well, H2 is compressed so it is liquid so it might be measured in gallons or liters.
Leased a NEXO for three years, then bought one. Great vehicle! , but only 58 stations in California, and often they are out of fuel or doing upgrades.
Car is great, fueling support sucks.
Do you still have a Nexo? & if so are you still happy with it?
Proud to be Indian 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Fantastic. Given a reasonable fueling network, I’d much prefer this over a BEV.
Anyone know why this car depreciated so much? It was $60k 3 years ago and now used one’s going for $15k here in Los Angeles.
Dude tasted the water..... NEXO engineers, 😂 HAHAHAHAHAHA.
He did taste it , but he spit it out
hyundai has seriously stepped their game up since 2018 even
0:57 Interesting "Tank Expiration Date of 05. 2039" on the fuel door.
All high-pressure containers have an "expiration" date...
High pressure tanks typically have 300-700 bar pressure (Atmospheric air pressure is 1 bar) so like Mario said all have an expiration date but even though 18 years is pretty damn long.
This car is wicked Pissah! Good for Hyundai they have been doing some cool different stuff for a bit now. I can’t remember the exact year but I bought one of the first Hyundai’s they brought to the U.S in the 80’s at least I think it was when they first came here, but it was a good little car. I’ve had a couple different Hyundai products over the years(mostly as a second car for commuting) and they have been un-killable if taken care of!! One Sonata I had got passed in the family to 4 different people and did it’s job every day.
I would definitely have one if the fuel issue was more abundant. Southern Indiana is two tads behind.
How would those door handles handle an ungaraged parking lifestyle, say, in New England or Colorado?
Are the heated so they can operate if the car is coated with ice, sleet, or frozen wet snow?
Correction: Fuel Card is $13,000/36 months...not $15,000-still not bad FREE Fuel for 3 years, also you get 21 days of rental vehicles in the 3 year period
I think the door handles flush with the door is for aerodynamics, is the same concept Tesla has and there's a video somewhere where it is explained
I want one more than the Tesla!
I think this is a good alternative to an electric car as far as like climate. I do like the idea that it makes water. Does this have a battery or is it all generated by the hydrogen and used immediately?
Now a modern car I would definitely be interested in. Great video.
Amazing car!, great review, and in my opinion this is the real future of the cars (more than fully electric). Unfortunately, the infrastructure is really limited... so no idea when this is going to be available.
It’s not because it is super inefficient. And no, this will never get considerably better.
@@Simon-dm8zv inefficient compared to?. This technology still has a long road and needs to develop a lot more, but this is a beginning. The same thing happened with gas engines... Or you forgot that 30 yrs ago a mustang with a V8 5.0 engine will develop 178hp..., the same thing with electric cars.
@@D_M_W_ Compared to battery electric vehicles. The technology for hydrogen fuel cell cars has been around for a long time. Efficiency has not improved and will never improve considerably because of laws of physics. There is no way around that.
I think Mercedes-Benz disagrees. Take a look of the new Mercedes GenH2 truck... that proves that they are improving this technology... slowly?, yes (agree on that) but improving.
@@D_M_W_ The Mercedes truck proves nothing about improved efficiency.
So the 2020 and 2021 have dropped price dramatically, is this still considered a good car to buy as the infrastructure is decent in Los Angeles
Old buttons for new features good combination
I'm confused. If electric cars lose battery capacity in the cold winter, why is it also recommended to store little batteries like AAA batteries in the freezer at home to preserve their capacity?
So the future is hydrogen well I can’t argue it’s coming but I’ll keep my gas burners on trucking
I would love to own one of these but for where I live in Canada, where we experience -40, it's a draw back. That and no hydrogen stations.
I would be far more interested in this than a plug in electric. Faster to "fuel" at a similar cost. They should put more time and resources into H2 fuel stations than plug in sites. I think this would be more readily accepted. But definitely wouldn't trust the self park system. If the computer system screws up (I know, computers NEVER fail), it's still your fault.
So how do you plan on getting it from Colorado to a hydrogen port? I’m confused
I would lease one in a heartbeat if the proper infrastructure was in place. Would also like to have a all-wheel-drive model available.
omg my heart rate nervously watching that car self-park itself 😂😂😂
I wish there were hydrogen fuel stations on the east coast as this is one of the coolest cars ever
H2 highway on west coast. Vancouver, Canada had a highway to Whistler with H2 buses for the 2010 olympics.
Ballard fuel cells in Vancouver had some help from Ford, GM, Mercedes ???...
I like how the center is the the complete opposite of Tesla. Give me knobs and buttons!
I drove this last night and LOVE it!!! It’s amazing. I want to buy it but now worried about the fracking and immense cost to the environment to create H2 :/ This car is amazing though in all ways….More affordable than the ID4 which is beautiful too, and more quick off the line than the ID4 model.
This is a great car it's my first electric car, you also have to think about it any electricity or hydrogen that is derived from fossil fuels, 100% of the fleet is zero carbon dioxide emissions!, as opposed to hybrids which still emit some CO2, PLUS the oils that keep an ICE cars engine AND transmission lubricated are also derived from fossil fuels, so there are no monthly oil changes, that's less oil companies have to manufacture for vehicles , in my opinion it is still a step in the right direction!
@@nympho25 I bought it. I love it!!! Hopefully we get better at making more clean H2. Yeah no car is 100% clean.
So far so good on this car. Some have had problems and get returned under the lemon law. I really hope line stays great because I love it! It’s my magic carpet. Rides amazing and has plenty of bells and whistles. Replaced my Lexus NX Hybrid with it and it’s not easy to find something suitable to replace a Lexus. Highly recommend!
Sits in car with back up and 360 camera, but still rolls down window to ask someone if your going to hit the car?! TH-cam drama
