The best thing about doing videos like these is not knowing how the day will unfold or what will happen . No plans except seeing small towns and next thing ya know we are riding around in a locals truck getting a tour.

Cool story on the glass tiles above the coffee-shop front windows: These are used mainly on old store fronts and date back to before electric lights. They have sawtooth ridges on one side to refract light to the back of stores. Many stores had gas lights (before electricity service) but they were a huge fire danger. Called "luxfer" tiles, they were introduced in the late 1800's and were popular until electric lighting became available. Originally a colorless glass, they have since turned a shade of purple due to their manganese having been exposed to sunlight. Though rare, you can find individual for sale (eBay is a popular source). I've acquired about 50 of these tiles and have been incorporating them into stained glass windows that I make.

I really enjoy the travels through the small town. It was so nice having Carolina Tony traveling along with you. The cameo visit by Bob was so nice. The stained glass in the church is so pretty. I love how they are keeping up that church. For me, the appearance of the phone booth meant a lot. It was like a visit from my dad. He passed away 14 years ago. He worked for Western Electric back in the 1960's. One of the jobs he had there was constructing phone booths! You don't see many phone booths now days.

  • @sherimcdaniel3491

Adam, your reactions to things like non-working telephone booths just fills me with delight! Your love of these relics to a better way of life, so much simpler, quieter and more vivid amazes me! Have you been this way your entire life? I’d love to sit down with your mom and dad to ask them!
And you interact with folks who start up conversations that inevitably turn into “guided tours” - it comes so naturally to you, my friend!
Anvil rock is there because that’s where it was born, silly! Maybe it regenerates the graffiti away - it could happen. 😁
Whoever painted that train/horse mural is VERY talented and yes, it IS a 3D effect! Fabulous job! Thanks to Carolina Tony for his help and humor! LOVE the last Nicholson impression!!!

We are going to move from the city and make our home in a small town. My husband is from the east coast (Pennsylvania) and I'm from California (we met when he was in the Air Force) and we've been living in big cities since we got married. Thanks to your videos, we've been looking at small towns/villages to relocate to. I visited South Carolina a few years back and was entranced by the state. So your delightful videos help in seeing some of these towns that I didn't get a chance to see while visiting my friend who lived near the Charleston. My husband has a large family who mostly live on the east coast, he has a cousin who lives in Florida and a brother who lives in West Virginia. He'll be happy to be in a part of the country where we can visit family members more easily. I'm looking forward to living in an area that has less heat (we live in Phoenix). While there is more humidity, there is more green (I love the oaks around SC) and less desert. 🙂

The Presbyterian church you passed was started by my Great Great Great Great grandfather it is located about a block or less behind the clocktower. His son was in the civil war and was POW at Appomattox Courthouse at Lee's surrender. He came back to Winnsboro and became Sheriff. Most of my early family is buried in the original churchyard about 2 blocks on the other side of the clock tower.

Like how the town residents can be a wealth of information!! Love your small town vlogs! the old buildings and stories that go with 'em are awesome. old cemeteries add to the intrigue! the guy on a power pole was a little creepy. Thank you Adam, Bob, and Tony.

Those boulders in the woods are probably glacial erratics. Great episode, Adam!

Made me smile to see Adam so happy about the phone booth! My dad owned a chrome plating factory and back in the late 80s I worked one summer on a contract we had with the phone company plating pay phone faces and change door thingies (not sure what the proper name is). 😃

That transaction transport machine you showed at the bank with the monitor reminds me of the one that used to be at the Disney bank (now called Partners! Federal Credit Union) drive thru. Even when you would bank inside during the day they had monitors there too for the tellers. The first time I walked into the CU, it reminded me of when EPCOT Center had those World Key Kiosks at the exit of Soaceship Earth and all around the park. Those were used for making dining reservations and getting park info. A couple of people I work with now, used to be a world key “teller” before they were removed.
Those murals look fantastic! There should be more murals in this country. Peoples talent deserves to be seen. I just finished watching Mike’s video (German in Venice) uploaded today and he found a storage area where they store old billboard canvases. Now they make bags out of those to keep them out of landfills.

I believe First Union bank in Florida used those machines up until the 80's.
