In the past I have spent lot's of hours practicing my head loop (Yes on a steer head that I had to walk up and take it off on) and my heel loop on a saw horse while practicing for team roping. Watching your videos has started my roping practice again but with multiple different loops and styles. Thank your from Terrell, TX. Oh and my miniature donkey and mule, sarcastically say Thanks A Lot as well, since they are on the receiving end of my roping practice.
My biggest advice in the branding pen is if you are the greenie fine . and if you don't drag many calves not the end of the world more calves to rope for the others but WATCH what you are doing don't cause a wreck. Better to drop your rope than get the someone hurt. That last shot was pretty cool.
Thank you so much! What started out as cursory research for writing a book has become an intense interest in the work and way of life, and though I've seen plenty of roping by now it always went too fast for me to actually see details. This was a fantastic breakdown, so thank you!
Thanks for all the pointers Sir' just recently went down to Sonora to purchase a riata, I did notice the tendency to recoil the riata has, your vidio explained it all, thanks, Vic Sahuarita, Az
Hard to put a dollar value on a free video lesson but any idiot can see this one has a lot of value to it. I found your website the other night and was very impressed. The bit that you have designed makes me wonder if it has any flex at the cricket or is rigid through the middle? Thank you both for another great video.
good stuff. you answered several of my questions. also about the bit, can you start with that bit or is it a correction device. you two are a gold mine.
Anthony Nelson I don’t understand exactly what you are asking. This bit is something that a young horse can be started with. It can be used to help an older horse understand lateral work. For a western horse, it is used before transitioning to being ridden one handed in a regular western shank bit. For an english horse, it might be used indefinitely.

Hey that wasan informative ranch roping. Lesson because I have been to several brandings and I only know team. Roping shot and a lot the time doesn't work. But I will work on those loops that you showed me. I will be ready for the next branding. Thank you very much.
Hi Pat and Deb. This Caleb from Southeast Idaho. Could you post some content about how you treat and care for your reatas? If it's not too much trouble.
I can’t figure out how to send a post direct, so I’ll ask on this I guess. We branded our first 10 calves and one of the brands was botched! 🙄 I’m sorry to say that the top part of the brand had been burned through from the man on the darn iron putting to much weight and left it to long and burned through the hide by about an inch! 😡 mad at myself mostly for allowing it as it was my responsibility to watch him. But, anyway, I caught the calf again and purple sprayed it. What should I do?! And how worried should I be about it becoming infected and causing a serious problem? Please, no hate comments guys.
Good morning. The thing to do is to slather it with pine tar. Really cover it thick. Have the guy who did it help you so he can make sure to get it all over his pants. Then load the calf up with the antibiotics of your choice. It’s a hard lesson learned. Good luck!
Pat, I enjoy all the videos. Your wisdom and horse Savvy ways remind me I still have lots to learn. I’m in the middle of building some corrals. I have lots of options but want to know what lay out or max size corral your prefer for branding calves? Thanks in advance!

I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with us
Roping with Dave Weaver is the best thing you can do for your roping. He is awesome.
I do enjoy these videos, good job.

Hello how are you doing today...?

John Morris it is rigid all the way across. Basically it’s a mullen mouth with a cricket. It prepares a horse for a real western bit.
@@PatnDebPuckett thank you for the reply. I like the bit design.
North Carolina here. Enjoy your videos
Im from india(tamilnadu), we need a rope to catch after performance of jallikattu bulls. We are only using clothing ropes that is not stiffened .
Another great video mr Puckett!

@@PatnDebPuckett you did an excellent job answering what i was asking and one of your bits is definately in my future.
Solid learning and advice.
Good stuff, no doubt. Can you please tell us about the honda you are using?
bollinj it’s a rawhide hondo for a 5/16 rope. We just got a few in stock that are available to purchase.
@@PatnDebPuckett Can you send me a link?

Caleb Martin we’ll put that on the list. We need a grassy area so it might be awhile! Stay tuned...
Love this guy!
Great informative video!!
Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍
Very good video. Not in a hurry, and explained well . Are you in northeast Nevada? Looks real similar to where I live.
We’re in California between Bakersfield and Death Valley.
Thanks for all the knowledge. Pat's a true buckaroo! Just curious, does he ever use tapaderos?
