Thank you sir for the good info!
My dad was a ranch hand back in the 30s and 40s and he had this thing of putting pine pitch on the knot and would get upset with me if I didn't do it ! 🙂
I never had one come undone if I didn't use it but I wasn't about to tell him that, I had too much respect for him ! 😊
Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍

Hondo, adj, Spanish for deep, low, profound. Honda, South American for sling or catapult. Fascinating, every last detail.

Thank you for demonstrating the prefab hondo and an abbreviated knot. However, One continuous rope, with a hondo, and knot is stronger, right? Would you be so kind and take a few minutes to show us how to tie your own Hondo and finish it with a Walker knot? Both are easy and quick. Thank you.

A tied hondo doesn’t have the same weight to balance the loop for the shots we throw. Also, tied hondos tend to twist.

I usually tie and end knot by crowning 1st, and than walling the strands so they come out through the top of the knot and in the center of it. Than cut of the strands and burn 'em flush. This method of 2 times walling the strands is something I need to try though.

I’ve seen Pat tie the hondo knot that way with a reata...

Are you slow in the head? A Honda is a not created. A Hondo is the loop that's created and locked in by the Honda knot. The tail of the rope is fed in through the Hondo (the small loop).
