    8cr13 isn't bad at all. Every knife with frequent use will need sharpening regardless of steel type. I like one that sharpens up very easy and ready to go again. And cold steels 8cr13 has an impressive Rockwell hardness.

      Edge retention is WAY over-hyped anyway. I have a $11 Mora in 12C27 and a Benchmade Anonimus in CPM Cruwear that I use interchangeably for daily use on the farm and they are both VERY dull at the end of the day. The Mora may even be a bit better, because it doesn't chip and holds its edge a little longer. Fancy steel names like "cruwear" are just a way to get idiots like me to spend $300 on a knife. Never again though...

    its a hard knife for hard situations - when you need indestructible - this is your boy - its easy to sharpen - will hold edge long enough to get the job done and its super safe - its not a showboat or a fidgeting knife ( why a grown man would play / with a sharpened knife i cant say ) - its a get the job done for less - its a pocket prybar that cuts - its the knife a soldier would carry - the pitbull grows on you

    If there is something I can't do with my m390 manix 2, shaman, microtech elite socom Manual, umnumzaan then it's time for a fixed blade. I do however carry my sr1 lite hunting. It's good for cracking chest plates and bone and I see the soft steel as a positive in that situation because I want a steel I can sharpen in the feild. Hitting bone alot and the fur/fat from hogs and bear has dulled even my higher end steels like m390, m4, s35, s30 and others skinning out bear and have a hogs.

    To each his own of course but I actually prefer the straighter handle on the SR1 lite to the one on the Recon 1. I'm not a big fan of the 2 finger choils.

    40 on Amazon right now which is a steal on this beast.

    Tip: run and slide a 60-80 grit paper under the pocket to smooth out the draw. After doing that about 20 times I was able to gret a smooth draw without removing the pocket clip.

    Got the Tanto Version. I like it as a knife that I carry in my work pants. Just nice to have a knife that I can use to cut stuff with when you are not home.

    a very fair review, and helpful in making a decision on which type of "hard use" folder amongst that large group of them at cold steel

    The only issue I've ever had with the SR1 Lite series is the balance. It's awful. It's all forward weight because of the blade, but aside from that, I still carry mine on a regular basis. I'm going to get this tanto version. For the price, I'm fine with the shortcomings.

    Good video. However, Aus 8 and 8cr13mov are almost exactly the same steel. 8cr is plenty tough, actually outperforms the s35vn in destruction tests (in this knife). Edge retention is surprisingly good on my clip point, I actually find this in my pocket more often than my Benchmade 710 in 154cm. The clip point cuts very well, maybe give it a shot, the grind looks to be a bit higher.

    Maybe a hollow grind like the first generation AD10 could take this in a more interesting direction. As it is I have no use for this. To manny good fixed blades.
    Nice review. Good to bring up the Recon 1 and the 4MAX scout.

      The drop point would usually be considered better for slicing but this knife is not really built for that so I would go with the tanto

    What do you think would be a better buy… the sr1 lite tanto or the code 4 tanto?

    • @darkframepictures
      @darkframepictures 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’ll carry the code 4 more, it slices better, it’s slim in profile, and still a big sturdy build, the handle is a bit slippery though. That being said, the SR1 Lite is tough as nails, built like a tank, and surprisingly comfortable in pocket for regular carry, and at a much cheaper price. I own the SR1 lite and it’s cool, but as he says in the video the thickness makes it less efficient with slicing through materials, as shown. Personally, I carry the American lawman a lot, and I like the verdict series maybe the best of the bunch. I use knives for work, and find these are reliable. For outdoor i have a 4max scout which is absolutely awesome, like a folding hatchet. Of all my cold steels the SR1 I use the least, but it’s probably best suited of all of them for “tactical” use, if that’s what you’re after. If the end times come it would definitely be on my right hip, but in the real world for me personally, it’s a little huge for most settings, and isn’t versatile enough for the most common general cutting tasks.

      @@darkframepictures thanks the great opinions & experience. You are totally correct. For what I needed I went with the code 4 tanto & am loving it so far! Going to alter the scales so not so slick.
