Can we add a 'fun hint at Norse Myth' win with the "run home little princess" line? For context: Thor and Loki disguised themselves as women to take back Mjolnir from a giant who stole it.
Paquette Stephen Brett If I remember correctly, in the original Norse myth, the hammer was just so ridiculously powerful that it would destroy whoever wasn’t powerful enough to hold it. The frost giant just happened to be powerful enough.
When Loki asks "Is it madness? IS IT?" I feel like he's thinking "because I can't tell anymore," and it makes me so sad because he can't tell if he's following his destiny and that justifies his actions, or if he's just getting vengeance and that is unacceptable on a cosmic scale but either way he loses the belief that his life was what he thought it was, and since he's so shaken by that sudden identity crises "who should I be loyal to? did my family(Asgardian and Frost Giants) ever really love me? is it in my blood to be evil?" that he truly cannot tell if he's gone mad because he feels such a separation from himself. Ugh, heartbreak.
And then recall in The Dark World when Thor is like "Loki, are you mad???" and Loki be like "Possibly!" I wonder if Loki's still unsure about himself even in Thor Ragnarok...
loki doesnt know if he is sane because he isnt.... its that simple, loki is the god mischief, his entire reason for existing is to cause issues, and kick start Ragnarok.
I feel like it's also him making a jab at Thor, whom we saw declare, "I'll hunt the monsters down and slay them all!" Loki's basically saying, "what? Isn't this what you wanted? Oh, it's only madness when I do it. I see now."
Loki is exactly why these movies are so enjoyable - Tom is a very talented actor and makes him far more complex than your usual Generic Doomsday Villains. The man does Shakespeare and it shows. (Seriously, watch his Coriolanus. Pure awesome.)
Honestly, I really do appreciate Loki as a character. As an author myself, I always am thinking about characters' motivations. ESPECIALLY the villain. And one could argue that Loki wasn't even much of a villain in this movie, and more of an antagonist (yes, there IS a difference). The way he's grown up living in Thor's shadow and always overlooked, and THEN learning that he was adopted and a member of a species he'd been raised to distrust.... well, it makes perfect sense for him to lash out as he did. It wasn't RIGHT, it wasn't morally sound, but it was understandable. More of a sympathetic villain, if we must call him one.

You speak of Loki seeking his fathers approval and didn't give a win to Loki's reaction to Odins rejection to his "I could've done it, for you father" statement at the end of the movie which cause him to jump into the abyss.
I love the Thor v Loki fight, when Loki is in tears and explains how it was Thor who wanted the throne and he just wanted unconditional love. Tom Hiddleston really knows how to add weight to a scene
I'm kinda dissapointed that you missed the fact what role Loki actually played in Thor's character development. Loki lied to Thor about their father being dead and this pretty much changed something in Thor. First he only lost his powers, something that was most important to him. And then he found out what it meant to lose someone really important to him. This is where he learned the importance of responsibility. And then, even if it turned out to be a lie, Thor continued to fight for others, not for his personal enjoyment. Loki unwillingly helped Thor become better man.
Well I got some good news and some bad news for you. Good news is Daniel Craig was done with the role like two movies ago. Bad news is they already chose his replacement and it ain’t Loki. It’s Heimdall. Maybe he can be the next Doctor.

One of the best Thor franchise theories out there is that it actually wasn't Odin's power that changed baby Loki's appearance but in fact Loki himself who, while Odin was holding him, looked into Odin's memories saw his first born Hela. He then shapeshifted to mimick her appearance. This tactile memory sifting is the same move he pulls of on the Valkyrie on Sakaar. It explains why he bears a striking resemblance to Hela.

I loved that scene where Odin strips Thor of his title. I was even more amazed when I found out the entire scene was improvised by Anthony Hopkins. The scene was entirely different in the script. I often felt like the camera tilts were for the major turn around this movie too. Like you said from Iron-man to Thor!?! And the tilts showed how strange the introduction of this character would be and how much larger the MCU would become once you introduced almost literal gods
At 04:11 odin strips circles from thor's chest armor and says you are unworthy of these realms,in infinity war when he comes to earth i could swear i saw like there are some places in those circles like portals, it's just a guess but i found it interesting
William Edward might be referring to the "Phase 1 timeline" graphic that was released in (if I remember correctly) the Art of Avengers book (here: marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline?file=Marvel-Movie-Universe.jpeg). It has Thor's coronation beginning on "Day 2" of Fury's Big Week and the battle with the Destroyer & subsequent destruction of Bifrost happening on "Day 5"... ergo, 3 days.
The mountain at 1:04 is actually Svartalfheim, or more accurately Nidavellir. It's the "Lowest" of the nine realms, and it's the home of the Dwarfs. (I'm taking all of this from my knowledge of Norse Mythology, not Thor lore). Fun fact, The Lonely Mountain from the Middle Earth series is also based off of Nidavellir.
Also (this is also something that bugged me about these movies, but it works well enough and is a lot more visually cooler) at 0:57 Odin looses his eye in combat, whereas in Norse Mythology Odin trades his eye to acquire knowledge.
Anthony Hopkins' performance in this movie was deserving of all the wins I felt, especially in the scene where he banishes Thor. He actually kinda made you feel sorry for Odin and the profound disappointment and sorrow that he felt.
Learned recently that Tom Hiddleston never actually auditioned for Loki; he auditioned for the role of _Thor_ , but the directors immediately knew he'd be perfect for Loki. Thor envy even in a meta-sense?
Anthony Hopkins is one of those actors who is great, even when he is not trying. His performance in Ragnarok (Anthony Hopkins pretending to be Tom Hiddleston pretending to be A. H.) is great!
The Black Panther It starts off great. Asgard and the visuals. But once he gets banished the films heavily drags and some of the performances were extremely bland.
Speaking of Stellan Skarsgård, my favorite part he's played was in King Arthur (the one from 2004, with Clive Owen). His antagonist has one of the best villain lines of all time: "Finally. A man worth killing." I'd love to see an "Everything Great" about that one.
I love Stellan Skårsgaard as an actor but, I’ve gotta say, watching his films after watching Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac series is really difficult. There’s something he does in the final minutes of Vol.2 that has stuck with me over the past 8 years, always bringing a sense of unease and dread to any role I see him in.
You guys are the best!!! Keep up the great work!!! Please do: 1) Tropic Thunder 2) The Circle 3) Star Wars 4,5,6 4) Jack Reacher never go back 5) National Treasure 1 and 2 6) Huntsmen Winters War 7) Kung Fu Panda 3 8) Mr. and Mrs. Smith 9) Now you see me 1 and 2 10) HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2!!!!!

11:05 i love that loki knew that Heimdallr could escape so he put some soldiers ready to attack if he escapes they would attack als yes this is his actual name (Heimdallr)
All three of the Thor movies are by far my favorite mcu movies, (with the Loki show coming in close second) no matter how good or bad a script is Loki, and just the thor-Loki sibling dynamic is so funny
5:20 A little theory I had seen online, most likely tumblr but i cannot remember: so from what we know from Thor Ragnarok, Loki can see people memories and Loki through them, When Odin first picked him up, what if Loki saw memories of thor as a child and of the war with the frost giants. Because he saw these things, the changing of his skin colour and eyes wasnt just a spell that Loki cast but a defence reaction to try and "blend in" with the Aesir. A trick which worked so well on himself and burred deep in his subconscious that Loki himself was tricked. It wasn't until he was touched by someone of his own kind that he could see himself as he truly was.
Ahh the good old Alien vs God debate. Here is why the MCU Thor is nothing like the DcEu Diana. The concept of alien vs god is clearly defined in Dc. Diana is the daughter of Zeus, the leader of the Greek Gods, one of several powerful deities that reside on earth. They created humans, making humans a sort of subspecies of the Gods. Diana is a hybrid of God and Human. Thor is from another world. Asgard seems to act as a sort of nexus to other worlds, and as such when they visit planets, they leave a bit of influence behind. In this way, Gods DONT EXIST in Mcu. What we think are gods have been shown to just be beings with advanced understandings of the universe. In Dr Strange, they said that the “magic” they use is similar to programming code. Stranges final fight is the same thing as GLITCHING A BOSS in a game. This is the most “magical” thing we see, but look at how their spells are shown, they are actively cranking a device that connects to unseen elements of our world. This is similar to how Asgardians enchant things. They access elements we cant, yet. Back to dc, magic is also genetic. One can learn minor spells and enchantments, but without an affinity for it, you wont get far. That’s what separates Constantine from Batman. Batman actually knows spells and rituals but he has no natural affinity for it. Constantine can trigger things with his presence alone.
Actually, the DC stance on Gods is a wee bit more vexed. Plus there are numerous beings like the Endless and Elementals like Swamp Thing which are more than mere Gods. From Constantine and Sandman we know that Hell and Heaven, Angels and Demons, Lucifer and Yaweh are real. But so are the Greek Gods, the Norse and some of the Egyptian Gods, but many of the latter are in bad shape since they are no longer widely worshipped, if at all and it is strongly implied that when people no longer have faith in their Gods, those Gods can cease. Which then suggests that any claims by Gods that they created humans should be taken with a generous measure of salt.
I wonder how excited those kids were (the ones who played young Thor and Loki) to have the honor of working one on one with acting legend Anthony Hopkins. That's probably a memory they will never forget.
I remember this movie so fondly. As a kid, I was already super into gods and myths, so seeing a movie about the Norse god of thunder was really exciting to me, and there was a time I considered it the funniest movie I had ever seen. BUT, what really stands out this that this was the movie that made me realize that all these movies made by those Marvel studio people were CONNECTED. That BLEW MY LITTLE KID MIND, seeing Coulson and hearing him refer to Tony Stark and realizing, "HOLY CRAP! ALL THESE AWESOME PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE! NO WAY!"
Ok... But it's still a weird casting choice, because Heimdall is Sif's brother in the comics. So either make them both black, or make them both white. Or at least say they had different mothers.
Thor is a personal favorite of mine in the MCU, and I appreciate you taking the time for it. Regardless of what you think of the Destroyer or the sequel, it was really well-made and had really fun characters.

It *is* true that "-ian" is a Greek suffix, but I really don't think that's the particular hair you were trying to split.
Doesn't "Asgard" just basically mean "realm of the Aesir"? And don't the Vanir originally come from Vanaheim? I vaguely remember something like that.
I have never understood why people hate this movie so much..
Same
I would say the Dutch tilts don't help.
@@tonypeppermint5329 do they really ruin the movie that much lol
@@elodielebrun Our host did say there are moments where it doesn't go well except for a one scene.
Tony Peppermint i commented that because i dont feel that way
"Even after thanos 'does it himself' I think Loki may go down as the best MCU Villain."
Thanos unfortunately went down as the best villain. Loki, however, went down as the best Anti-Hero.
That dipsh1t almost had his entire family кыlled, Thor and his friends, and had mиrdered wоmen and chыldren during his temper tantrum in NY.
He's a psychopath.

One of my favorite movies! Mel Brooks!!!
Yes but the better question would be, did they build that city with rock n roll? Oh boy...
Everything great about Thor? One word: Loki.

No one ever talks about how thor had his iconic comic helmet in this movie.
Thank you for making this. I really liked this movie. Thor and Loki are amazing especially Loki. Thor’s character development over the three movies is incredible.
One detail that i like is when loki says «Is it madness? Is it?» there are hints of tears in his eyes.
1:40 maybe, because that’s a right, and the one thanos has is a lefty
Alan Figueroa It's actually a fake one. This is revealed later in Thor Ragnarok
Hela : Fake
In The End Game he has righty.
This channel is way better than Cinema Sins! Good qualities! Who agrees?
Yeah
definitely,,,
Idk I like to watch both, like wait till they have both for one film, it gives a new view on the movie, unbiased
Tbh i agree with the watching both part but i do need more positivity in my life
@@michaelmagnimedia3331 you should find the positivity from other sources, like stuff that's made to make you happy,
These are like film reviews, if they were good and kind thatad be boring and the cast, directors and writers Would'nt be able to progress
Gosh damn it man. From now on whenever I'm using a hammer, I will whisper upon it "Hammer Whispering".
Loki, this is madness!... Is it madness?... Is it?
Or is it Sparta?
5:26 what I keep saying all the time. Where is the love for how amazing Tom's acting was? I was blown away when I watched the og english version (dubbing is my enemy now)
6:18 thing that I absolutely hate about Thor. Loki never once declared himself a king. They cut out the scene where the guards come to Loki with Odin's spear. Loki is so shocked and confused so he looks over to his mother, who tells him he's the king for now. Look it up on youtube. They cut that out and made Loki look like an asshole.

TxcGren How dare you! That was the best Spiderman film with the best Spiderman played by Tom Holland.
MrQ000000 No.
Fantastic Beck the movie needs to be released onto disc in order for them to do it so unless you want to wait for a couple months with no cinema wins then....
Dave All Yes.
Literally my only complaint with this movie was that it took place over the course of three days.
Really? I thought it took place over the course of a whole week!
William Edward Proof?
William Edward might be referring to the "Phase 1 timeline" graphic that was released in (if I remember correctly) the Art of Avengers book (here: marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline?file=Marvel-Movie-Universe.jpeg). It has Thor's coronation beginning on "Day 2" of Fury's Big Week and the battle with the Destroyer & subsequent destruction of Bifrost happening on "Day 5"... ergo, 3 days.
Why's that? Too short a time for the redemption arc? I might agree, but it never bothers me while I watch it.
Yeah I for one don't believe Thor changed in a matter of three measly days. Loki's 'death' is what truly changed him.
Ragnarok cant come soon enough.
My Back Tickles I Think Im a Super Saiyan Month more waiting
That's a made-up word!
Luuk all words are made up
Actually no. They made nidavellir it's own installation in space.
Fun fact:
1:21
At that point in the mcu, Thanos was also a child. Because both Thor and Thanos are 1,500 years old.
Anthony Hopkins' performance in this movie was deserving of all the wins I felt, especially in the scene where he banishes Thor. He actually kinda made you feel sorry for Odin and the profound disappointment and sorrow that he felt.

7:42 Reference to Anakin and Padme from Star Wars
Learned recently that Tom Hiddleston never actually auditioned for Loki; he auditioned for the role of _Thor_ , but the directors immediately knew he'd be perfect for Loki. Thor envy even in a meta-sense?
Anthony Hopkins is one of those actors who is great, even when he is not trying. His performance in Ragnarok (Anthony Hopkins pretending to be Tom Hiddleston pretending to be A. H.) is great!
“Well thats it, Loki’s dead, guess we’ll never see him again.”

I don't get why people didn't like this movie, I thought it was great, one of the MCU's best
Yeah, I enjoyed it. Dark World even more so
The Black Panther because It sucks
Right, this movie is so underrated.
Me too!
The Black Panther
It starts off great.
LOL My husband's lightsaber!

One of the wonderful call backs in Ragnarock is for that gauntlet. It was one of those things that bugged me for a long time...then just masterfully explained in 2 words YEARS later.
One of the few marvel movies with a decent and memorable score. Patrick Doyle is very underrated.
11:05 i love that loki knew that Heimdallr could escape so he put some soldiers ready to attack if he escapes they would attack als yes this is his actual name (Heimdallr)
The spelling depends on the region, so either is correct. Otherwise you would have to use Loke, Tor and Oden as well.
Who's pumped for Thor Ragnarok?!?! I bet Jude can't wait!
Andrewman 03 I'm not. HE FRIGGEN CUT HIS HAIR LIKE WTH ARRRGGG *triggered* sorry...sorry. Im exited but WHY THE HAIRRRR?!?
All three of the Thor movies are by far my favorite mcu movies, (with the Loki show coming in close second) no matter how good or bad a script is Loki, and just the thor-Loki sibling dynamic is so funny
5:20 A little theory I had seen online, most likely tumblr but i cannot remember:
so from what we know from Thor Ragnarok, Loki can see people memories and Loki through them, When Odin first picked him up, what if Loki saw memories of thor as a child and of the war with the frost giants.
Now do megamind pls
.
11:21
"Is it madness?"
Me: no, it's Sparta!
11:31
Me: ahhhh-
I wonder how excited those kids were (the ones who played young Thor and Loki) to have the honor of working one on one with acting legend Anthony Hopkins.
NO WAY!"
One more win: Foo Fighters in the credits.
I'm just glad Thor and Co. don't have to worry about blue shells. XD
At 4:17 that was actually improvised thats why they looked really suprised
I'm normally pretty strict about characters being accurate to the source material, but Idris Elba absolutely kills it as heimdal
