  • Looking to use your own seeds in the Aerogarden? It's totally possible! Here's step by step instructions for how to use Aerogarden's Grow Anything Kit so you can plant cherry tomatoes, peppers, veggies & more hydroponically.
    I'm using seeds from Baker's Creek in this tutorial. They seem to have mostly sold out, but you can buy seeds anywhere and use what you have. I also share some tips for how to DIY aerogarden's grow sponges and grow anything on a budget.

    Watched a bunch of videos before buying our Aerogarden in December, and really enjoyed this one, as I was mostly hoping to just plant our own seeds. Great content, and 2 months later, our lettuce garden is going strong! The spinach was a little tricky to get started, but using paper towel to geminate the seeds was the trick, and they are great too. Great video!

    A fine tip sharpie should be waterproof enough for labeling the little stickers.
    Another completely different way to label your plants is to label them in a notebook. Something like a map with the plants labeled in their respective spots.
    Nothing small to deal with and much easier in a batch type of planting.

      Tomato and pepper starts do great in the AeroGarden. The problem you will eventually have is that indeterminate tomatoes and most peppers produce best as fairly mature plants, which can be huge. If you really want to grow in the AeroGarden, you are probably best selecting for "determinate" non vining, or "bush" type tomatoes. Select plants that are dwarf, or small at maturity (you can read this information on most seed packets). Indeterminate tomatoes will set fruit all at once, and you'll have to rotate plants to ensure you have regular fruit, but they are you best bet. For peppers and indeterminate tomatoes, even people who build larger systems have to create space specifically designed for the much larger plants. Also, fruiting plants (tomatoes and peppers) like different nutrients than green leafy plants, so to get the best results you can, you almost need a completely different system.

    I think I`m gonna cut large holes in my gardens like these so I can use larger baskets with the clay balls. I tried to grow radishes and they grew inside the pod basket ruining them. There has to be a better way. I was able to find two gardens by Mr Sun that use large baskets and prefer them 100%.

    • @LoraxChannel
      @LoraxChannel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, root vegetables don't grow well in most hydroponic systems. There are ways to do it, but those methods don't grow the many other plants you want very well.
      I just buy most root vegetables, because they are inexpensive. I do use my traditional garden for some as well, now that I've freed up the space I used to use for green and herbs (which I currently grow in an NFT system).

      Also, when planting both tomato and peppers which option is selected since they seem to be individually set on the system. I just planted both and opted for tomato settings but I'm curious as to what the difference is

    • @SherSheGoes
      @SherSheGoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. If the labels look ok, you can try to reuse. I had some seeds that didnt germinate and reused the labels, but it did eventually get confusing because i didn’t re-write over the label lol
      Generally if you’ve grown full size plants, the labels get a bit dirty so i wouldn’t reuse

    • @SherSheGoes
      @SherSheGoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An inexpensive option is to cover the domes with foil and poke a hole through!

    • @SherSheGoes
      @SherSheGoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is in the light timer. The tomato setting will have the lights on for 16 hours, the pepper setting for 15 hours i believe. So if you’re planting both picking the tomato setting is good!

    To start seeds, there are simply better/cheaper options than using an AeroGarden. If you already own one, then this might make sense, but then you are using your unit for starts, and not fully mature plants. I think the AeroGarden is a great product if you are going to grow in their unit, which is where it shines.
    It's super expensive if you plan to transplant to soil, or a different hydroponic system. For example, you can just use rockwool and a tray and transplant to soil after the first true leaves appear, or switch seedlings to mason jar kratky system for extra growth in you feel you need it. The cost of doing this is pennies, compared to all the brand specific stuff you need to buy from AeroGarden to accomplish the same thing.

    • @SherSheGoes
      @SherSheGoes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are definitely cheaper options, but better is subjective. A lot of people, myself included, start w aerogardens because theyre aesthetically pleasing and practically foolproof… and we have limited indoor space
