Congratulations! I am not that far into it yet. That is impressive. Between 35 and 36 years for me. So I have a ways to go to catch you. But I am not even 50 years old yet! Lol

My debut album turns 20 next March. I'm already preparing for a limited edition VINYL pressing. It's so exciting

Being Indie: Love the creative musical freedom ... no pressure to comply with whatever the craze may be ... ability to be uniquely you

I have the experience of being signed to a major label (many years ago), with a single released. The label reorganised their management team and our album never got released! So what Tony says is so true. As an indie artist I now have 12 singles and an EP released with an album CD on the way in a couple of months. The best bit of being independent is freedom of choice/artistic control of your own music. That is priceless! Good luck everyone!☺

we worked with labels together and it was ok. But now we have the business in our own hands, thats better, but harder and ...much more work!!!

Much appreciation for this info got in at a right time right moment, me as a young new artist and the country I live in doesn't really put in the music thing. So the growth and elevation really seems heavy to reach out and connect, I always thought of just getting signed to a label.
With this info was very helpful, being an indie can be very frustrating sometimes. Doing everything by yourself takes alot, anyway after hearing this info I'm grateful for still being indie because I almost got into a deal that would've really depressed me.
Thank you soo much Mr Tony Van Veen , happy independence 🎉to us.

Great advice, very interesting about Spotify Royalties. A lot of signed Artists are depressed and very unhappy. Slaves to the Music 🎶 Industry. I don't want that for my daughter. I hope she manages to build her music portfolio and do everything she is good at which is Songwriting, Singing, creating Music, Art, and Storytelling.
Many Artists are good at more than one thing. Why be forced to give up a part of you because the Music Industry demands so much?
Fame is like living in a fish 🍜. You cannot walk down the street without bodyguards. Who wants that life?

Tony: This may certainly be the case if you sign up with a major label. I am an Indie Artist and have all the advantages thereof. But, there are independent labels, at least here in Europe, offering Sales- and Promotion Services ( Online distribution, etc.) as an add-on to my own activities. They have a team and they have a huge network to get your music to media and selected radio stations, TH-cam promotions etc.etc. The service portfolio is transparent, you pay for what you get. You can produce CDs / Vinyl with your own selected production companies, like Disc Makers, and sell them in your concerts or online. 100% of the revenue goes to you. The label charges the service fees and keeps max. 20 % of the streaming / online revenue.

Yes, as I mentioned in the video, there are some new label models springing up now that are more advantageous to the artist doing the bulk of the work.

As someone who has worked in the music industry, I am fully aware of the pitfalls of being part of a major label. If music is of the utmost importance, then my advice is to remain independent. If not, then go ahead and sign with a label. Having said that, check out the smaller independent labels, they may offer a better balance between artistic integrity and financial support.

Independence? Haha! Label or not the way the streaming business is setup is ridiculous. We make almost no royalties through TH-cam, Spotify, etc. making much less than a cent per stream and let’s be frank though I still make CDs almost no one has a CD player anymore and download cards don’t really work since most people are now use to streaming or using pandora and the sort. So we are forced to comply and get whatever royalties they give us which I don’t know how that is figured out but it should be way better than it is for the songwriters. And to top it all off and add insult to injury they give us “tools” so that we can “advertise” while we are really advertising for whatever streaming service. But hey that’s what we do right make music. The only way to make real money for most singer songwriters performers it’s to play live shows and get paid. It is nice and ego busting to be heard and even get messages from around the world or to see that someone Shazamed your song in places you never heard of and also to know that the music is playing but the reality is that they should pay more royalties. As always I enjoy your videos. End of rant.

Thank you for this video. Im independent from start. But problem is to find good distraction servise who I can trust. I'm trying CD Baby but for lot of releases in future it's cost. Now I'm trying LANDR and after first releases I'm start thinking they are bad choise because of bad and slow customer service, no refund policy, and they somly ruined your release date and doesn't care about 😤 So I don't know what to do now. Maybe you can recommended someone?
