My thanks to you for the great early review Mark. I took delivery of my snowchecked 850 Assault 144 several weeks ago and haven't started the break in process yet but this gives me a good idea of what to expect.. Your comments about the suspension settings are bang on! I've already had to 'relax' the factory settings quite a bit to start off with and I'll bet I still won't be able to bottom it easily..
The color reminds me of the 1983 Indy 600, my uncle had. Great race sled, he win the world series of drag racing with it and was top eliminator as well.
Great review Mark. 👍🏻
The TH-cam reviews from you guys are much better than your tv segments. Thank you, keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Great practical review. I really enjoy you and your families approach to snowmobiling. Looking forward to a great season from Snow Trax!
Thank you!
Wish we had snow like that here in Saskatchewan
Cory Coulter I hear you Cory I’m from west of Saskatoon. And it’s fukin near brown here.
@@Sodbuster346 Yeah I'm from Warman
We have a shit load up in whistler baby went boarding all week
Yeeeeehaaaaaaaaww come out west
Nothing idles as consistent as an etec. They almost sound like a 4 stroke. Glad to see Polaris making a good looking sled, conventional tunnel
NORTHERN Toyota etecs are also consistly in the back of the pack still ideling.
Mykel Greene mmmmmm ok
Etecs idle at 1200-1300 rpm compare to 1900 in Polaris. They do that by burning more oil at idle.
My ski doo 850 vibratea like a sob
Great review Mark. Hope the trails open soon. Merry Christmas!
You know when you see a snowmobile fanatic when he loves the sound of the brakes :) but i agree, the sound is actualy good :p
I much prefer the "walk around" or "behind the scenes" videos you guys do. At the end of the season, you should do another and describe likes and dislikes in more detail. (more so than the little 4 minute clips) ride safe
Nice review Mark... You guys do a great job I really enjoy your reviews. Can't wait to see the Doo & Poo stretch it out across the lake.
Thank you!
Just picked up my 850 XC yesterday. Long delay on my delivery me and one other guy were the last two to get our sleds and we got them yesterday. Just ordered 135 studs and I'm running 3 per bar. Working every day now until January 2, 2019 and I plan on putting one about 200 miles on my sled January 2nd in UP of Michigan. Fit and finish on the sled looks good but well see once I dive into it this week and start getting my adjustments done.
Nicholas Suminski planning on going to lake gogebic?
@@jacobrosemurgy8503 We leave from Wakefield and ride from there. Were in that area all the time.
awesome review as always, send that snow to sudbury
Thank you!
Thanks for the review...looks like an awsome sled...Im almost sure I'm gonna buy one soon.
That is a beautiful sled very well done I love it it must have a great top end on it
Lockig forward to your opinion of the the Lynx 3900 review. Winning so far...
where was the filmed? imm in Ontario and trying to head north to ride over the holidays
So for the magic question... pluses and minuses vs the Doo 850? Power, suspension etc comparison
Well r motion is much better than Polaris rear suspension, the doo is more powerful, it’s better on oil, a little more reliable, but it’s a little less comfortable and ras2 isn’t as good as Polaris’s front suspension
@@calebm.5698 Only in your dreams!
Caleb M. It’s RAS 3 and it’s a love or hate. If you want to roll through corners slower pick a Polaris. If you want to be railing Corners at high speeds with precision and accuracy, pick ski doo
I love snowmobiling, but save yourself some money and buy an older machine. Unless you have money to burn, I would recommend not buying a new snowmobile. Not enough snow half the time to even use them either :( Great job by Polaris, but I'm a big fan of the older machines.
I ride about 4 - 5 thousand miles each season ... feel i get my moneys worth buying a new sled every year or 2 .
Numbers on paper. You only have one life. Live it
50% true, but totally understandable
WOW Austin Becker I was just going to write the same thing !!! New sleds are the most F...'ed up looking things...right up there with Polaris Slingshot Crabmobile . I know they are light years ahead in technology...that is the problem they don't need to be. Why in God's name do you need liquid cooling on a snowmobile??? Ya don't...Just adds complex engineering and mucho money to the price. And spending 10 grand or more for a toy that relies totally on the weather is a huge waste of money...unless you live in Alaska. Like owning a boat living in the desert...even worse. You can find water anytime but not snow so much. I am an old bastard so I know that like just about everything else in life these days the best days for snowmobiles was in the 70's. I remember looking out the window at night just about any night of the week in the winter and seeing lines of lights in several directions off in the distance. It was GRAND!!! I read somewhere there were like 76 different snowmobile manufacturers back then. Imagine that. And the Polaris TX ruled the world
wally, OMG, really? the best days of snowmobiling was in the 70's? U haven't ridden one since the 70's , huh?
what is that thing under his lower lip?????!!!!
No Shot starter copy? Sounds like my old Wildcat! See the bars quiver and the smoke LOL. BOOM!!
A far different Polaris then the sleds of the 90s! But then again all the sleds are, great to see all the development going into these things now! I personally think the four strokes are the way to go for long ownership and durability but am fully aware of the performance advantage of the two stroke! Theres nothing like the pull of a two smoker on the pipe! Another great technical review!
I agree with your comment on the four strokes, way to go for long term ownership. I personally prefer the Polaris sleds of the 90s over the new ones, the old ones were so bulletproof and they are really getting inexpensive on the used market.....
Polaris has always made the finest snowmobile hands down.
lets just say they are 4th best
Something to note on the clutching, It's probably only pulling to 7750 because the engine IS in break in mode and there is less power available from the engine to overcome the load generated from the CVT. Slippery snow conditions are probably not helping this situation either.
I love my 2-Smokes oil burners .have to see how long they will last ! Love my 4-Strokes more !
Ive never ridden a 4 stroke. What are they like? Are they much heavier ? Same torque and performance? Would u recommend a 4 stroke over a 2?
Quincee 33 . Heavy yes but not a big deal unless your a weak person. 4- Strokes last almost forever. You car is a 4 -Stroke .
@@JDRTRM well i know the difference between a 2 stroke and 4... just always used 2 stroke sleds and dirt bikes. But thanks, i shall look into it. I just love the smell of 2 stroke so much though, lol. Last question, does Yamaha make the best 4 stroke engines? I was always a Doo guy personally ... Just wondering ....
Quincee 33 . Ok . Yamaha has the best engines out there. They are pros in the engine dept . Skidoo has only had 4strokes for 10-15ys max .Yamaha many many years before that .
Quincee 33 And for the record . Yamaha has a world record with 100,000mi on a snowmobile ! Same engine. Can’t do that on a 2stroke .
That's a nice looking snowmobile, cats meow is right.
Snow?? Whats that?? Wisconsin is bare!!
Same in MN.....
We had a shit load in whistler... pow for days on the snowboard... yeeeeehhhhhhhhaaaaaaaw
Exactly.. my xcr 800 in cold storage is keepin mice warm these days :)
Not anymore we just got snow. Wisco gang🤟🏻🤟🏻
@@larryw5429 lol whistler has a season total of 25 feet of snow !!!
This may sound funny but I go South to Canada.. Look at the ambassador bridge ?
STOP!! JUST STOP!!
Stop making these videos, I can’t afford to buy a new sled every time I fall in love with one of these new ones.
I hope the manufacturers know how seriously we take your reviews. Great job as always.
I’m thinking about picking one up for myself, still wondering though
Good luck finding one. Snow check models only.
I love that sled
Actually the E tech has much more vibration transferred to the chassis from the engine
Jack Skellington it’s a snowmobile not a car get over it
Boy once v-tech kicks in.. (; if it has a low rev limit I wonder, does it have an under square engine and they are just keeping rpm lower to keep a similar engine speed (in per min) as outgoing 800s
Low rpm is just rich break in mode. Once out they run 81-8300
Peak HP broken in is 8-8100
What lake are u guys on
I remember jack shaft brakes and when I hit the brake hard on my 03 F7 big bore the chain broke and nearly killed me because it free wheeled as nothing was connected to the driven shaft any longer it's damn good I was on a railroad grade but still about lost it. Good review though, the other Polaris's at the USXC races the brakes whine so bad you always know it's a Polaris. Sounds terrible so just be interested in if that is the same sound because it's not enjoyable for me. I get there might be better feedback, I like most things about my skidoos but after belt life it's probably brake feel that could use some attention. My 600XC is pretty much on off for brake though where the skidoos are at least more modular but not one finger all day or for really aggressive braking.
U are truly a Goof
It's not brake whine! That's the race Roller in the chaincase. And because of goofs like u they put plastic in there now. Have to add race roller tensioner yourself
@@fxnytroxtxFPP what do u care GOOF
@@fxnytroxtxFPP absolutely, but i guess your as dumb as u sound behind the keyboard. My comments are Truth n Facts 😘
Great job Mark, thank you
Clutching preferences are a matter of individual taste. With that in mind, it's unfair to judge a sled with that criteria because of the infinite options available, for any machine to customize the shift anyway a person wants regardless of the brand.
Thanks again for the great review Mark ! What are the plans with Snowtrax tv for this winter ?
Lots of great stuff on deck. We're really excited for the season to start and hope you are too!
@@snowtrax Yep totally ! Clicked that bell to get notified everytime you put out a video ! You guys got me into snowmobiling !
One thing that I have seen is lots people are saying these 850 are coming from the dealers with the belt deflection way off. If you own one make sure you adjust your belt deflection you won't get the power out of this if you don't.
all depends on dealer, some just put ski's on some go through set up checklist
To bad this is such a unicorn. I just got the “snow check only” blah blah from 6 dealers. If you want to sell this let me know..
Heard a few guys were having some engine problems and a few fouling plugs like crazy. Isolated instances i hope.
They leave the factory with pre mixed gas. The extra oil in the gas will foul up plugs and smoke a little extra. No worries
The first 2hours the oil pump is pumping alot more oil so if u shut it down often the plugs get wet
User error, probably let they're wife break it in for them since they were afraid of it
caleb h that’s not the problem, there has been more than a few engine failures. Especially early build models.
Alex C Apparently you forgot all about the 800 Polaris lol. Timebomb.
Hey I just picked up a 2019 pro rmk founders edition. I would love it if someone could give me information as to why Polaris made this? I can’t find any information online about it. Thank you :)
Hahahaha the hardest part about riding a Polaris is having to phone your parents and tell them you're gay.
What jacket is that?
FXR Adrenaline
FXR ADRENALINE, Its a tad bulky compared to Klim Keweenaw jacket. But I'm sure itll be warmer. New Klim jacket are complete garbage!
Great review sirr..
I'm Gonna say it again! Thats the one they should of held off on calling the XCR. Not the rush rear end of last years...make them all come in Red decals like the Indy 650 and it would and will look great 30 years from now. :) I've been waiting 18 years to get a decent Polaris hyper sled again. :) THANK YOU!! A great seat! Storage! THANK YOU. THANK YOU! now hopefully it handles "icey" hard packed water logged hard as a rock ice trails with little snow and doesn't over heat. :)
Nope! Wait till 2020! U will be impressed with a 136 XCR
If you want that buy a 550 leaf blower. Liquid cooled needs SNOW to cool period!!!
Big HP needs lots of it. Period!
@@flyin427ford Not true. I've been adding coolers to my sleds since 2008. Having less then 6 liters of coolant is a no no for where i live. I drive miles on Rivers and icy logging roads. Kinda like Old Sno-pro machines of the oval ice track days.
. I also add 4 extra wheels to the skids, longer snocross like snow flap and my machines have been stable on up to plus 10 riding weather on rock hard surfaces.
@@kwmiked I have a 3 136's now.. also 121's. a 144. I still liking riding the shorter track Sleds in the woods.
It's fun drifting in corners. It's harder to do on a 133 plus track. Also I like the less rotational mass of the shorter track sled. but thats just my opinion.
@@otahu26 longer tracks are faster in speed, it's a known fact! The Switchback will out mph the rush. The short tracks seem to be a thing of the past. I built one, it runs good, but the Switchback still out mph it same as the 144
Minnesota needs snow.
Great video!
wow lots of smoke!!
Polaris sportsman He should go buy an e-tec as it’s the better sled/motor good point!
What a great review!
I'm glad you shut the snowmobile off I was choking in my living room oh my God this thing is smoking like crazy I love Yamaha honest to goodness all jokes aside 1 oil change once a year no vibration runs great super reliable no crazy smoke yes it does have an exhaust smell but nothing like this for anybody that's considering a snowmobile try to get a Yamaha you also get a good resale value when you sell it I put 11,000 miles on my Apex I loved it I sold it I still got $3,500 back I got a Viper right now it's super nice not as fast on a top-end but it's extremely fun zero to 60 and little bit country
Most people want 2 strokes.
Thanks Mark - Great Info!
2 of these new 850s blew up in Bathurst NB this week...junk
Where the details?
Injection pump line probably popped off. Miramichi dealer got 72 850's and half had the clip that holds the line not in place.
@@sylvaincomeau4133 wheres the info? Heard it was 4 motors and it was cause case sealant in oil that starved bearing. Haven't heard what your claiming. So where u finding this info would be appreciated, cause it sounds like BS to me
I would think with them being so new they weren't broken in properly and blew up because of it.
@@kwmiked I have one and nothing wrong is mine, it works perfectly find
What is a Polaris "nutbar"?
Skidoo number 1
Ya right.... number 1 for breaking and thats a fact jack!!!
Yea the electric start is rubish my 600 it broke after one season
Weird I got a 15 and a 16 and not a issue
Kwmike-D i got 2 2017 xcr 600 and the one with less km/miles the starter broke butt i had varanty
throw a ski doo shot on it
So true about the poo started sounding like crap. Ski Doo sounds way more refined/higher quality. I have no experience with the poo starters, however, they do sound cheap. Almost like the alignment is off or something .... Cheap?
i have not bent a fan of polaris sled since 1996 and since my late brother thomas f selk had a 1977 polaris tx 340. i started out on 1973 artic cat eltirge 440 and on too 1978 john deere spitfire 340 and on too 1990 yamaha phazer 2 and on too 1997 artic cat ext 580 efi dlx with i brought from oldest brother todd selk and i have own the sled for 9 1/2 years
How many times did you have to rebuild the engine to make this video?
Hardy har har. How many belts you blow while typing that? lol
Polaris would've helped themselves enormously if they would've started the 129' track earlier on. Ski-Doo has always been ahead of the ball but I'll always give Polaris a chance.
I agree polaris engines are riddled with problems from hydrolocked to cranks and piston skirt issues get your shit together disappointed!
Let’s see those wheelies!! lol
they need to develop their own shot system....
DEVUNK88 don’t worry they will. Ski doo always does the innovating and poo catches up(copies it) 2-5 years after
Do a review on the 2018 cxr 600 switchback
This sled is cool but it ain’t an etec ;)
Mathieu Gagnon damn right!
Give me an older cat or xcr...this is not that impressive for the coin....its 2019 not a whole lot different than the late 90's...maybe little more motor and weight difference ...but so no worth the money !!!!
But can it keep up with the SRX? Spoiler alert, it can't! You'll put the crank through the motor before you pass any sidewinder.
Only on the straight a ways,in the trail the indy is way out in front
My general understanding was things were springcheck but yet everydealer has them right now, also the sled has a bad reputation on line. I’ll spend my money on something else
That's an awful lot of smoke..
i’m slowly becoming less of a fan of snowtrax. they are stupid bias toward polaris!
I always thought they were bias toward the Doo's.
robert anthony when the last time they did a doo review without a polaris in it
they could at least emphasize on the fact that they are all great sleds
@@rt7003 go read snowwest if u want fake reviews and not straight answers
What do u expect Polaris is the best hands down
These things are blowing up all over the mountains in Wyoming,Idaho,Montana go figure. I’ll stick with skidoo!
14,000 850's sold. Polaris expected assembly line failure rate is 1%. That means at least around 140 will have problems. So far in all the world I have heard of about 10. How many you hear about? Either way, you're likely just cranky cause you can't even out run an 800 Polaris, nevermind the 850. By all means though, stick with your ski-dog.
Well t been acupple days now I saw 2 more outside ISland Park loading up with problems so I see a recall in the future!
Novel IDEA!! 5 Poo POO's in NB Canada went down in the brake in mode in the last week. :( I spoke to soon prasing this thing. Even the other videos from dealer's about the brake inn issues are gone off Here. ...PO needs to ship these out with the Burn in chip Burned in.. Dealers should be taping the throttle open and getting rid of the enriched 2hour brake in as part of the Dealer prep While your waiting for it to be put on the truck. Walking home alone from the back woods SUCKS! Norway has issues.. Now US here in NB. MApping for EFI must be off again....
Polaris are great handling sleds too bad they can't just pay Skidoo / Evinrude Royalties for Direct Injection technology ..
Too much money for me but I’d love to have one
👍🏻
Ride it!
Luke's full review of the Indy XC 850 is coming up on the first episode of the season!
What ever happened to Polaris’s 900 fusion engine lol. Also why is the guy in his 60s doing these reviews?
Never underestimate an old man with a sled.
Can you say ROGER SKIME
dudes 70 or something still rocks
@@snowtrax congrats lester on finally talking about the rear skid. I guess if a old man should know something, can't do dick with power if you can't handle it. Since the release of the machine, I've never heard anything about it (even though I knew, I just wanted to hear it). That being said, roger skime might be riding yet, which is great. however, he is far from rocking it. if you think he is, your expectations are very low.
Lol. Polaris is just a copy paste of skidoo. And no, I’m not a fanboy
Eric Thompson agreed they just keep ripping skidoo off but they can’t seem to do it as well and they end up with a garbage copy of an mxz
Caleb M. They copied the rider forward snowmobile, the 129” skid, 850 engine, the list goes on. And it’s not a copy with some changes, it’s just an exact copy. Every time skidoo comes out with something new, it is copied by Polaris and people give Polaris the credit
👍😤
Wow, really looks like a ton of hating - scared doo's out there by reading below.......ha.
About as reliable as a bbq clicker from what I hear.....to bad. Im pulling for Polaris to make a good engine.
More Polaris junk, been hearing that these new 850's have been blowing motors like crazy! 4stroke is the answer if you want a long term reliable sled!
850 rush xcr is far more better.
Opinion based. More XC sleds spring ordered then XCR Rush sleds.
The number of orders on the indy xc do not change the fact that the rush xcr is far more better.
Nice sled, but driving a 4 stroke for the last 15 years,i couldnt go back to these stinky smokers,
But isn’t fatter, bigger?
first off I would ask about the company reputation. As a prospective buyer with little to no exp with snow machines the reputation of this company scares the sheet out of me.
cold spring get a skidoo, the 600 etec is pretty bulletproof and they have the number one market share. In addition they came out with most of the tech Polaris is releasing now 2 years ago
You're listening to the wrong people. Seems the biggest loudmouths against Polaris all ride Doo's. Don't under estimate the mouth flapping of anyone who is willing to ride a yellow sled. lol
Truth is, they have all had lemons, and have all made mistakes, but generally speaking it's not at all hard to find a Polaris with 10,000 miles on it's original motor. If they were even half as shitty as the youtube and facebook yellow loving gum flappers, they would be well out of business, rather than being the #1 recreational vehicle supplier on earth.
Craig Bondy I have nothing against Polaris, I love my sportsman atv and it’s been great. I just prefer skidoo snowmobiles, they just seem to have a higher level of quality overall, and they did release an 850 two years before Polaris, they released a progressive rate rear suspension back in 2012, 7 years before this new Polaris rear suspension. Polaris is a much better sled than an arctic cat or a Yamaha, and they certainly aren’t a bad or cheap alternative. But you can’t argue that skidoo makes a great machine, or they wouldn’t have so many brand loyal customers willing to vouch for the quality of a skidoo machine
Jack shaft brake? You mean like every sled in the 90s? that thing sounds like shit.
@@fxnytroxtxFPP how many chains have broken, 50 years of riding, never broken chain & i ride hard
ha ha i laugh at all of this. Copying skidoo 850, copying skidoo new clutch. Just watch next for polaris "PHOT" starting system without a battery lol
Dude you know nothing about sleds, if you want to make that claim. First off Polaris was working on this motor for 5 years. Rotax pulled the 850 out of a glider, and adapted it to a sled. Which is why it vibrates more than a fucking muscle care from the 70's, and also the reason you cant drive 100k without needing a new belt.
Also there is ZERO comparison with the clutches. This is what tells me your talking sideways out your ass. There is literally ZERO in common with Polaris, and Ski doo clutches.
On another note. The only thing Polaris copied from Doo is the electronic reverse, which incidentally was awarded to Polaris in court, because of a settlement many years ago, where doo stole Polaris' IFS suspension, and the courts awarded any patent they wanted any time in the next 25 years. Polaris chose the electronic reverse, in 2003.
Your smarter now, you're welcome!
Only good about a Polaris is their looks the rest is junk. They look soo much better than Skidoo. But the quality and reliability just isn't there.
Your opinion,I had a 2016 600 indy with 3,800 miles and had not one issue...all sleds have problems sooner or later...
the camera woman needs some help.
Blau blah blah....it's still just a Polaris sled.....
