This exact thing happened to me earlier this year with a thrifted camcorder, including the fact that one of the segments was Christmas morning. I worked for the goodwill for a few months, and you’d be surprised the amount of sentimental family items that people donate. People don’t care about sentiments like they used to it’s a shame
Once at my local goodwill they were selling this painting of a cartoon family all in a bathtub. Each member was labeled with their name and The Smith Family underneath. Like why would they even put that out for sale?
Though I rarely go to thrift stores, but when I do go, especially Goodwill, I’ve noticed a lot of things that belong to people who must have passed away. I found a picture in a frame of a Marine when he was younger, and in the same frame a picture of him when he was much older, along with some keepsakes in the frame. It was sad to see that there.

Our youngest headed off this morning in full Santa garb bearing giftbags for all his classmate's and another for his teacher with a huge smile and skip in his step. It's a wonderful time of year!

Over 20 years ago I found a box of VHS tapes in up New Jersey when I was working one day. Got real excited for the mystery but they all turned out to be boxing matches and basketball games someone had recorded off television 😂
There was a “Christmas Coastal Snowstorm December 22-25, 1989”. Which should help you narrow it down to the east coast of the United States safely above the more southern regions. Also, her accent seems to be NY or somewhere around that area. This might narrow your focus even more.
I remember one time I bought a pair of shorts that had zippers on the side pockets and the clasp was off of one of them, I wanted both pockets open so I used pliers to unzip it, and there was a $100 bill in the pocket. I guess whoever had owned the shorts forgot it was in there, and how the clasp got broken I will never know.
I turn up many old home video tapes doing what I do. Some I have managed to return using still shots from the video on social media. One wedding tape I was able to return had actually been missing for 25 years!
There was a time where i bought a boombox at Goodwill and it had a cassette tape with unknown music on it. This reminds me of that but it's much more personal. I hope this footage finds it's original family.

Love it! Hopefully - by some miracle - this can be returned to the owners. But in those 35 years, so much has happened. Who knows what became of the family. I bought a 1985 Kodak Colourburst from a hockshop three years ago. Brought it home and proceeded to disinfect and clean both the camera and camera bag. That's when I reached into one of the side pockets and found a folded piece of paper. I carefully infolded it, and it turned out to be a TTC bus schedule from July 24, 1985! I got it lamemted to preserve it. I also found lost footage from the 1940s on a reel of tape when I purchased an old Cadillac car shaped phone. Not sure what is in the film because I have no film projector to check it out.
Was just at Goodwill last week. They have one non hifi VCR there for $10 bucks.. I only grab the HiFi vcrs but missed the one they had the week before. Nostalgia, how rich were people a couple of years ago when I missed it? I'm still catching up with the flat screen TV phase and I don't know how operate a fire stick or a Roku. I just hook an HDMI cord to whatever TV takes it, to a computer and stream that way. Right now I can't afford to get a new smart TV, but what a throwaway Society we have become. I've said it before and I'll say it again if people don't start owning and operating their own media, nobody's going to actually physically own anything. Who wants to really have to pay to watch an old movie like Ghostbusters or ET. Don't throw out your VHS tapes or your DVDs. You're giving these companies way too much control.
If the images of the family are shared enough on social media, someone will know them. Hopefully, this family will be found so they can’t get their VHS tape back.
This reminds me: I found an audio cassette at a thrift store several years ago of a Christmas morning being celebrated in Florida in 1983. And I actually have posted it here (link below). I often wonder if the family in this recording has ever discovered it. I'd be flattered if they did! th-cam.com/video/Drse9QV3F0g/w-d-xo.html
Yeah, you see how much better the world was back then. It's upsetting. It's like now, looking into a dystopian future, where people look at that and say, "Wow... I wish I had that."
The fact that a tape like this is not with the family still makes me worry something bad happened along the way, but i sure hope they find a happy ending to this story, these days we need all of the hope we can get. i would have been a senior in high school when that tape was filmed. Young Christopher would be much older than the Young Lady searching for him.
If Christopher is alive, he'd be in his early 40s. It's amazing how things like this captivate us. We long to be in a world with less technology, less connectivity, as less of this is more humanity. Back then, people spent meaningful time together, sharing with each other and not at phone screens silently as families do today. I am sure when Destiny saw this for the first time (she herself looks to be in her twenties) she realized how different the world was in 1989, how great it was to be a child playing with friends, toys and being outside- you know, being a kid discovering the real world, not stuck in a chair handed a tablet watching mindless trash on apps filling one's head with meaningless garbage. I'd like it to be 1989 again too. 2024 sucks.
Plot twist, I wonder if the kid lost touch with the family and wanted to throw out and forget his family which is why he threw out the vcr without checking for the tape yet everyone is kindly helping him remember what he wanted to forget? I wonder if people lost touch with the family and no one remembers them? I'd love to see the opposite happen but it seems like it could have been intentional to throw both out.
I would never carelessly leave a special vhs home video like that in a vcr. My brother digitalized all our videos and I upload majority of each tape to youtube to preserve it for generations to come. Only f'ed up thing is my brother threw out all the original tapes(some with parts unarchived like old tv shows and commercials) which really pissed me off because having the original itself is extra special(and proves the legitness of the recording). Some people seem to not be sentimental about archival and memories. But god bless this woman for being sentimental for other peoples lives archived and brought to life again.
This happened to me but not in a good way. I bought a DVD player at a thrift store to give to my aunt. She told me it had a p0rn DVD inside and asked if I wanted it back. I was so embarrassed.
I found a photo of somebody stuck to the underside of one of my parcels. I gave it back to USPS in the hope they could trace the owner. I tried on social media but as usual drew a total blank. One of the sorting machines must have destroyed somebody's letter.
When i die, the only thing left will be the credit card debt. My family didn't make videos, take photos with me included, and i never got a wedding ceremony or anything. Invisible and forgotten.
It would help if everyone on here that is posting to please share this & get the word out faster . I am from Mississippi & I will be sharing this in hopes that she finds the family .
I buy older Sony cameras on eBay. If a memory card is included in the lot, nine times out of ten, there are old photos on it. I always the seller of they belong to them, but they never do. It would be great to get this tape back to the family.
people don't realise how vcr's are still being bought and used. . the thing with DVDS, they get scratch easily, but VHS tapes last longer, if ya put them in right place, ya can't put them in damp places, attics or outside garage , make sure before ya put that tape in, it doesn't have mold on them, it will like white on top of the reel, if ya put that tape in, it will mess up your VCR, the heads, i have 3 hi-fi VCRS and DVD RECORDER
I came home from work one day, and my wife said, "Look at these pictures on Facebook." Looking at them, I saw it was old photo albums from the 70's with myself, cousins, grandparents, and a lot of family members. I said, "Yep, that's me. She said, Look who posted it! I didn't recognize the name, but noticed they posted it a lost and found group. This person found 3 or 4 family photo albums at Goodwill bins and posted them 2 years prior with no response. Stuck them in their garage and forgot about them. Found them while cleaning and made a last chance attempt post. My wife stumbled across it and noticed my "cute little face" and messaged them right away.. it was a crazy story. All we can think of is my dad was clearing out his house just before he passed away and accidentally donated a wrong box. I now have all the boxes of pictures that he had kept and I dont know who any of the people are in them..😂
Maybe Christopher and his family were abducted by aliens shortly after the video was made and as a result the whole family remained the EXACT SAME age for the last 35 years... 🤔
I have held on to all the 8mm and 16mm home movies that came with projectors I bought in hopes of tracking down the familys they belonged to, but I have no idea how to go about it...I wish there was a page or site dedicated to it.
Makes you wonder what year this news story was released by the news agency since what we just viewed was reposted by a TH-cam channel called Obsolete Video.
I wish all lost belongings of people would be miraculously returned to them. Also - everyone with kids now - START filimg VHS and glossy photos of them. Do not deprive them of these precious memories kept. 😢

This reminds me: I found an audio cassette at a thrift store several years ago of a Christmas morning being celebrated in Florida in 1983. And I actually have posted it here (link below). I often wonder if the family in this recording has ever discovered it. I'd be flattered if they did!

These videos are absolutely beautiful. 🥹🤍
I always get a kick out of these "hunt them down" stories, just like ancestry sleuthing
Wishing for a Christmas miracle.
I hope she connects with the family 🙏🏻
I truly hope that the owner of the tape is found ❤🤞 something like this happened to me also...
Beautiful
So precious
I really hope that Christopher is found and he can be reunited with this family treasure of a vid 👍🏽
Christopher would be around 38 or 39 now…
I bought a vcr recently, 🎉and there was someone's dui stop when he got arrested 😂
It's so sweet!
Yeah, you see how much better the world was back then. It's upsetting. It's like now, looking into a dystopian future, where people look at that and say, "Wow... I wish I had that."
I’ll be 83 next week.
Get a job! 👴
When people donate stuff to GW they don’t pay attention, they just get rid of it……
The fact that a tape like this is not with the family still makes me worry something bad happened along the way, but i sure hope they find a happy ending to this story, these days we need all of the hope we can get.
i would have been a senior in high school when that tape was filmed.
2024 sucks.
He's more likely about 38 or 39.
My daughter was this age in 1989, she is turning 36 soon. Mother of 2!
More like 30s. My dad was born in 79 and he’s in his mid forties.
Yeah ,my Christopher was born in 1987. So he would be this little guys same age. My Chris is 37.
Oh my how fantastic .. watching from France for a good update ❤
WOW surprised it still worked, nice
This happened to me but not in a good way. I bought a DVD player at a thrift store to give to my aunt. She told me it had a p0rn DVD inside and asked if I wanted it back. I was so embarrassed.
LMAO!!! And????
Even worse if it was porn of you that someone burned to the disc
Seeing Christopher in 1989, he must be about the same age as me. I'm 40. Damn time flies.
I found a photo of somebody stuck to the underside of one of my parcels. I gave it back to USPS in the hope they could trace the owner. I tried on social media but as usual drew a total blank. One of the sorting machines must have destroyed somebody's letter.
when i went to good will they were selling a families photo album. why would someone donate that and goodwill sell it?
Supply and demand?
@@jessieessex ridiculous answer
When i die, the only thing left will be the credit card debt. My family didn't make videos, take photos with me included, and i never got a wedding ceremony or anything.
Invisible and forgotten.
Start today. Record everything going forward!
I hear people leave VHS tapes all the time but I usually hear they're just old tv broadcasts from the latest, the early 2010s
Thats my older brother Christopher. I can't believe she found this tape. Would love to have it back as he has passed
Glory to God!🙏❤️
It would help if everyone on here that is posting to please share this & get the word out faster . I am from Mississippi & I will be sharing this in hopes that she finds the family .
Aw Christopher is 38 now. He was an adorable kid....
I hope she finds them. My son was born three days after Christmas in 89. ❤
I buy older Sony cameras on eBay. If a memory card is included in the lot, nine times out of ten, there are old photos on it. I always the seller of they belong to them, but they never do. It would be great to get this tape back to the family.
I found a vhs tape at a goodwill and it’s a home video from Sean P Diddy Combs
people don't realise how vcr's are still being bought and used. . the thing with DVDS, they get scratch easily, but VHS tapes last longer, if ya put them in right place, ya can't put them in damp places, attics or outside garage , make sure before ya put that tape in, it doesn't have mold on them, it will like white on top of the reel, if ya put that tape in, it will mess up your VCR, the heads, i have 3 hi-fi VCRS and DVD RECORDER
I hope that after watching the tape the phone didn't ring and a voice said seven days.
I came home from work one day, and my wife said, "Look at these pictures on Facebook."
Looking at them, I saw it was old photo albums from the 70's with myself, cousins, grandparents, and a lot of family members.
I now have all the boxes of pictures that he had kept and I dont know who any of the people are in them..😂
Being emotionally nosey lol.. ala karen!
We need an update!!!! ❤❤❤
There's no way that the Goodwill can't do something.
You're kidding right? They don't track who donates this stuff or where it comes from. They are not a pawn shop and are not held to those rules.
Seems so since they haft to keep records of items in case they're stolen just like in a pawn shops.
Christopher be like: Oh, yeah. I digitized that shit years ago.
Christopher is about forty today.
If he's still alive and not in prison
@@ScaryStoriesNYC he's in prison
@@sheismymom How do you know that?
@@ScaryStoriesNYC Wait, do people in prison stop aging?
Maybe Christopher and his family were abducted by aliens shortly after the video was made and as a result the whole family remained the EXACT SAME age for the last 35 years... 🤔
I have held on to all the 8mm and 16mm home movies that came with projectors I bought in hopes of tracking down the familys they belonged to, but I have no idea how to go about it...I wish there was a page or site dedicated to it.
Facebook
Tis is like the start of 100 creepypastas..... watch out! ;-)
Awwww, I have a similar story except the video tape I found was homemade XXX
I wonder if the news will help me locate the rightful owners 😂
Awww 🥰
Makes you wonder what year this news story was released by the news agency since what we just viewed was reposted by a TH-cam channel called Obsolete Video.
This was 4 days ago on KPHO
I should imagine it's quite recent if the lady has bought a tube TV and VCR for nostalgia. Lots of music videos recently have been featuring old TVs.
I hope they find them!!!
Funny! that morning, my family and I were trying to survive the USA Invasion in Panama, thanks to Bush father and Noriega 😂
Aww so sweet.
I wish all lost belongings of people would be miraculously returned to them. Also - everyone with kids now - START filimg VHS and glossy photos of them. Do not deprive them of these precious memories kept. 😢
Maybe they forgot about the original family left the tape in the VCR. Hope somewhere somebody discovers them
Sounds like a Hallmark movie. I hope the family gets the VHS soon.
