Biiiig mistake... I totally forgot Monica by Daniel Clowes. Don't know how this could happen & what I was thinking. The multitude of my different lists obviously confused even me. So yeah: Please think of Monica as on Rank 2 because it's a great book. It deserves all the hype and more! I guess I should make a video about Monica to atone for this error :/
Thanks for this video series. So much new and interesting stuff. One of my goals for 2024 is to read all Thorgals. 10 albums in already but still a long way to.
Great video! I am not familiar with the Tardi book at number one. The art style looks like his older work. Has this book (or series) been translated to English Language yet?🤔
yeah, it's called "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adéle Blanc-Sec" and has been published by Fantagraphics, at least Vol.1 ... I don't know how many volumes they've put out yet
And it only took you two months to get the videos up. Jokes aside, i'm surprised this is the one video where I didn't see anything that peaked my interest.
I really liked "Milky Way" by Italian cartoonist Miguel Vila. I read the Fantagraphics edition, since my Italian is a little rusty. It's kind of a great coming of age story and the art is quite unique. Vila manages to capture sexuality like I've rarely seen in a comic, or really anywhere. His drawings often edge between hot, erotic, and nasty, even disgusting, more akin to reality really. His drawing are off-the-charts! The panel layouts are also experimental. The Fantagraphics edition could have been a little bigger. It's not tiny, but certain panels are kind of small. It's a sly move to skip "Monica" like this! Honestly, it's overhyped in my opinion. The story is interesting and the Clowes-ianisms are alright, but apart form the splash pages, his art seems kinda off and uninspired, compared to the stuff from Eightball. Maybe that's too harsh, but that was my impression. I haven't read any of his more recent comics. The end is also a little weird, but that's Clowes, I guess. I still would put it in my top ten though, but I haven't really read that much in 2023, and even fewer bangers.
oha! thanks for mentioning Monica... my bad... totally disagree, it's a super super comic, at least rank 3!!! & a big mistake by me. Don't know what I was thinking

Such a great list. Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to check out the Sunday series.
Oh, finally :) guten morgen!
Didn't know Daria Schmitt at all. Ordering the french edition as I finish writing this...
Really wish Fantagraphics would continue with the Adele series. Eagerly awaiting. Have you read Blood of the Virgin?
just the chapter that was pre-published in Kramers Ergot… was very good indeed
