Meet Peter Hargest who runs a family farm in Charlton, just south of Gore. With a Friesian dominant herd and roughly 130 milking cows. In the winter of 2014 there was a rough winter that presented terrible conditions with huge feed wastage and nowhere dry for the herd to sleep.
Peter found Smart Shelters and installed a loafing barn as a simple solution for a cow shelter. The shed provided a warm and dry place for the cows and led to efficient use of feed and improved weight gain in the herd. Calving also became much easier and the cows really seemed to enjoy it.
