@@drspectred Peter’s suggestions seems solid and in line with the game. Also I think negative jokers are so weak now in the current build that this would bring back some utility to that edition.
I was thinking about negative playing cards and drew the same conclusion--way too strong the moment you use Death on one. Redefining "negative" to include "copies don't keep negative" may be a reasonable solution (it is in line with how Invisible Joker already works, I believe, so simplifies that description; otherwise I don't think it comes up except maybe the rare Ankh on a negative).
Also, I think the discussion about interest at 19:35 is misleading since you have to calculate interest on a case by case basis. Once you hit the interest cap the compounding effects stop, so the price for buying the voucher is the base $10 plus the $2 in extra interest per round, but only until you hit the cap. If you would hit the cap in 2 rounds without buying the voucher and 4 rounds without you only made an extra $4 of interest. Plus you're unlikely to maximally greed with the extra money and instead you're likely to just spend it on something else. The telescope and a celestial pack allowed BU to survive without picking up a joker, but had he not bought telescope he would have needed to spend money elsewhere to survive, so the benefits from the interest aren't all that big. I don't disagree with the decision to buy the voucher, but I think there's a lot of nuance to calculating the impact of buying something vs not that isn't explained.
Need some advice!! By sheer luck I got the same starting joker, but when I try to do a low straight with ace, it just shows up as a high card? My setup was A-7-6-5-4. I did have an 8 also, I tried doing 8-7-6-5-Ace also but no luck. It just registered as a high card for some reason
I just started playing last week and im trying to get all the decks unlock before worrying about high score. Currently i havent tried the higher difficulties but on white stakes i keep getting walled at Ante 11. It feels like such a big wall that unless you break the game you cant pass it
That is somewhat by design, though usually the big jumps happen at every 4 antes, especially past 8. Getting stuck at 11 isn't unheard of though. Beating 8 is enough to be considered a win; everything past that is gravy.
We will have endless shops and endless money, so whatever value we get from one more shop must be irrelevant in endless. That is compared to a game-breaking mechanical advantage of negative joker from a skip.
Can someone help me understand the discussion about skipping starting at around 11:20? If you skip the first small blind vs not skipping it, the only thing that's different is what you would have gotten in the first shop, and the money from unplayed hands. If you wouldn't have bought anything then you only missed out on the couple of dollars, which matters but isn't really that big of a difference. You do miss out on seeing a couple shop items, but I usually don't buy anything in the first shop anyway, so it seems like on average it's a small consequence. Basically what I'm saying is that if I handed you two save files in an ante 2 shop, one that skipped the first small blind and one that didn't, the only difference would be a few dollars and the round counter would be off by 1. To me this seems to be a mistake similar in size to forgetting to discard for a gold card, which is something good players often forget to do. I acknowledge that skipping the first ante is usually not good, but how is playing the round better than skipping for $25, for example? I know you don't get the payout immediately, but it's still worth more than the $3 you get from playing the small blind and the extra $1 of interest you would have earned from the big blind.
Lets say you don't skip the first blind. You enter the second shop with $10. So, not only are you getting the $7, you're getting an entire extra shop. The difference between having 2 shops in an ante, compared to 3 shops, is massive. Also, even though $7 doesn't sound like much, it can snowball your economy into making more and more money. So basically, is that skip tag worth more than $10 in value, and skipping your shop, which you have a finite amount of? Well, sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. But losing a shop is a bigger downside than you realize.
@@DrMonty-ng5fo How is it $7? On a normal deck, like red deck, if you don't skip you will have $7 in the first shop and $14 in the second shop (if it takes you 1 hand for the small blind and 2 hands on the big blind). If you do skip you will have $10 in the second shop (again assuming 2 hands needed for the big blind). To me that means that you're comparing the skip reward to seeing the first shop with basically no money, and having $4 more in the second shop. The rewards from skipping are often better than that
I'm probably undervaluing the Tower - I see you're using it to remove it from The Idol's pool, does this affect anything else? Maybe I'm just too focussed on 'big hand' playstyles and don't usually end up in high card.
I’m not him, and I don’t know for a fact (I’m pretty sure most Jokers don’t care, but also some mods of the game accidentally recognize face cards below Stone), but a consistent way to win is “High Card” strategies. A more accurate way to put it is a hand-independent strategy. While planet cards can do work in the proper deck, it’s also easy to make any deck work at all with scaling mult, a consistent source of chips, and some times mults. The hard part is actually assembling the whole thing, but a lot of high Stake gameplay is working with what you have and not what you want anyway.
Generally speaking, if you encounter a death in an arcana pack, and you are given the option, do you copy a purple seal or another playing card? at what point does it become better to copy a playing card than a purple seal? Does it have to have an enhancement? Red seal? Preferred suit? I would probably say it has to be the right rank.
If you have only one purple seal, you obviously should copy that regardless it's rank (Ace, 2..etc), bcz it will give you tarot cards for deck manipulation. That could make your playing cards better (Justice - Glass which is x2 mult, steel- x1.5 mult)
Yeah and you can open standard packs and if you get a polychrome card or holographic card. Maybe you would want to take it ( for example you're buliding around kings you can take a polychrome jack and use strength to make it a king, maybe make it a glass or get a res seal on it. Now that's a playing card worth using death on )
Yeah I would say it's not worth copying a non enhanced card It depends on the situation also For example if I have sixth sense then I would want to use death on 6 so that way I have more 6s
Regarding the clearance voucher (2:01:50 ish), doesnt the effect just balance out? Less cost means less sell value which means less return from Temperance, but you dont need as much money due to the discount so it all levels out. And with Gift Card especially, you can continue to scale back up to the Temperance cap.
The Voucher doesn't reduce the cost of Rerolls, which is where most of your money is going. You get a dollar discount on 4 Booster Packs and maybe another dollar or two from Tarot Cards you buy from the shop. You still want the Discount in the long term, but you can wait to take it after the Big Blind is defeated.
I have a question, I had a baron mime build and i was farming serpent, at one point the game stop to give me serpent (I did 1k reroll and the game was just giving me the 5 same boss) any explanation or I must just go cry (I was at e140, with just 2 mime and 3 baron and still cap at 5 joker so I had a lot of room to go way higher)
Love your content, love this game, and hate math. I also have not found Yurick . My last Joker to get, I also need to find the final voucher I unlocked. Working on blue yellow deck so I can unlock all decks. Been close. Do we know when the update is coming to the console?
10:00 In my opinion, there is one tag that is worth it in the context of a mega long run. The voucher tag can give you extra chances at getting the best vouchers in the game, the antimatter joker which gives you an extra joker slot, or the extra hand size vouchers, which can allow you to take an ectoplasm card, indirectly giving you an extra joker slot. Still I would never take this tag without a bonus tag, and i would never get a bonus tag from anywhere else than diet soda. (I would prioritize diet soda highly though)
I feel Balatro University would be peoud. i got a trubador shoot the moon seed and got all the way to ante 11 with all red sealed steel queens. I wanted to get a baron or a mime and strength the queens but I never found them in the shop.
hello. I am really stuck on the jokerless challenege. I know you have a video where you go straights and win, but would you mind putting a video out on how to do that challenege successfully post patch? I tried the flush blue card deck and got to ANTE 7 but the halfing chips/mult took me out quick and clean (no boss reroll unfort). Thank you if you even read this.
I actually have a playlist of Jokerless runs on the non-challenge decks such as Jokerless Magic Deck and Painted Deck. I even did Jokerless Gold Stake on the version 1.0.1. None of the Joker changes apply to the Jokerless Challenge. The main changes with 1.0.1 are this: The early Blind sizes are lowered, so it's even easier to get off the ground. Blue Seal now gives you the Planet Card of your last played hand instead of a random Planet Card. This is a huge buff which guarantees late game scaling. And then finally, Saturn Cards give more Mult, so it's easier to score with Straights than before. Basically, any lessons from the previous Jokerless Challenge still apply in 1.0.1. You're going to need to get better at leveraging Card Enhancements from Tarot Cards. Because the Jokerless Challenge removes Jokers from the shop, you'll see 4 times as many consumables. Regardless, the Flint (half chips and mult) is a huge pain. Hope to not see it. +Mult Cards from Empress and Bonus Cards from Hierophant can help mitigate this, since those bonuses are applied after the Flint's effect.
I sense a great number of new high scores are going to start showing up on Reddit It would be nice if the avatar didn't do the little "hop" animation when you started talking.
My highest point hand is 67m, 149 jokers out of 150, 2 challenges beaten. I’ve got to orange stake on 2 decks. But I haven’t been able to beat orange stake at all yet. The 2 discard limit basically makes the game not fun anymore. I get lots of unlucky draws and RNG. I am trying to get better, because I want that last joker and gold stickers so bad.
Keep at it! This channel has a good series of tips for how to play better if you haven't checked it out. While they may be difficult, you can beat the orange and eventually gold stake
I have 4 decks completed on gold, my win rate for orange/gold is probably 5%. The best thing you can do is reset for a good starting joker and get your money to above $25 for max interest before you start spending. Those 2 things have done a lot to make my runs more consistent
for The Plant Boss Blind at 1:15:00, you literally wouldn't have scored any points at all because debuff makes it so that you score nothing when it's played. You almost suffered and I'm surprised you didn't know that lol.
He still scores points via upgraded straights and did call out peredolia as awkward with the boss. He was more concerned with not getting the money and planet cards from debuffed gold and blue seal cards.

1:36:53 when I ask the doctor where his fist went in a concerned tone
Need some advice!! By sheer luck I got the same starting joker, but when I try to do a low straight with ace, it just shows up as a high card? My setup was A-7-6-5-4. I did have an 8 also, I tried doing 8-7-6-5-Ace also but no luck. It just registered as a high card for some reason
I'd love to see another 15 Deck Winstreak speedrun! Maybe even live?
voucher tag for high antes CAN be well worth it. but only if you get lucky with an antimatter, or observatory etc..
oops all 6s also makes blood stone guaranteed to trigger. if you are trying to or already building towards hearts, could be worth considering
I was playing a different game, holy shit this game is incredible!
This. This is what I can't do yet
The rewards from skipping are often better than that
@@brianmcmanus9110 On White stake, it's $10.
1:26:16 Should've used World on the gold 5 and gold 3, so that way they wouldn't be debuffed for the boss round.
For sure
I like your explanation. Watching people play without the explanation is literally a waste of time
I'm probably undervaluing the Tower - I see you're using it to remove it from The Idol's pool, does this affect anything else?
That could make your playing cards better
(Justice - Glass which is x2 mult, steel- x1.5 mult)
Yeah and you can open standard packs and if you get a polychrome card or holographic card. Maybe you would want to take it ( for example you're buliding around kings you can take a polychrome jack and use strength to make it a king, maybe make it a glass or get a res seal on it. Now that's a playing card worth using death on )
Yeah I would say it's not worth copying a non enhanced card
It depends on the situation also
For example if I have sixth sense then I would want to use death on 6 so that way I have more 6s
@@drspectred Makes sense, don't know how I forgot about rerolls. Thanks for the quick reply, even on an old video!
At 1:05:50 he seemingly misplays by not using his 3 discards to make more money? Missed out on 15 bucks there right?
Where is part 2 though ?
Why not negative popcorn?
insane that ive hit 0/9 wheels since i started counting (with more missed before that lmao) and he just dropped two in a row
what if superposition gave you a saturn if it was an ace low flush? would that be too strong?
I have a question, I had a baron mime build and i was farming serpent, at one point the game stop to give me serpent (I did 1k reroll and the game was just giving me the 5 same boss) any explanation or I must just go cry (I was at e140, with just 2 mime and 3 baron and still cap at 5 joker so I had a lot of room to go way higher)
And I had a negative bus so I was in positive in money, it was quit a perfect run until this
No idea. Sounds like a bug.
@@drspectred really been shit on by the game at least, this is fun
Love your content, love this game, and hate math. I also have not found Yurick . My last Joker to get, I also need to find the final voucher I unlocked. Working on blue yellow deck so I can unlock all decks. Been close. Do we know when the update is coming to the console?
Not discarding for the money on round 12 killed me
I can't believe he forgot about the moneeeey at 1:05
10:00 In my opinion, there is one tag that is worth it in the context of a mega long run.
I wanted to get a baron or a mime and strength the queens but I never found them in the shop.
way cooler than roffle
great vids dude
@@drspectred awesome this is super helpful thank you very much
1:16:40 The probability of not drawing a 3 there was (11÷15)×(10÷14)×(9÷13)
×(8÷12)×(7÷11) = 15.4%, not terrible but not ideal odds.
I sense a great number of new high scores are going to start showing up on Reddit
It would be nice if the avatar didn't do the little "hop" animation when you started talking.
I wish the character in the bottom right was a bit smaller
It's insane how easy you make this look through your thought process...then I try to do it and it goes to shit XD
it's a tough game ngl
Easy sub good info!
Unrealistic, you Wheel actually hit.
wake up babe new balatro university guide
Crazy how a single human being is worth 12 going on 13 ante dollars
For the moneYYYYYYY
OVER 2 AND A HALF HOURS!?!?!??!?!!?
1:12:42 nice
for The Plant Boss Blind at 1:15:00, you literally wouldn't have scored any points at all because debuff makes it so that you score nothing when it's played. You almost suffered and I'm surprised you didn't know that lol.
He still scores points via upgraded straights and did call out peredolia as awkward with the boss. He was more concerned with not getting the money and planet cards from debuffed gold and blue seal cards.
Muh-neeeee?
