A Romanian friend translates the moment when he starts skiing: "My dear friend, let's go for a race". This guy is very calm for having a bear chasing him. I bet he's skiing backwards too, since it would be very difficult to get this kind of footage facing the other way.

Awuh..it looked more like it wanted to play than to eat him..either way it sure was cute how it laid its head down in the snow staring at him. .maybe licking his chops figuring out what kind of side dishes to have with the main dish 😆
You are probably right. But the bear does not know humans are not bear, and if you look at videos on how they play together...well basically, same result as if the bear was looking for food. Humans end up chopped. And then that may trigger hunger..oh blood, I can eat with something I played with..yay.

Very brave skier to draw the bear away from the others. If he or she has chased people before, it's likely to repeat. Not somewhere I'd like to ski.
I'd definitely be carrying bear spray in that ski area.
Well the bear population exceeded the optiumum în Romania,we asked other European countries to take some of the bears but they didnt wanted to help and according to european laws we cannot shoot the bears either

I'm not a bear-ologist but that brown bear looks fairly Young and more curious than anything. It definitely doesn't look like it was being defensive or actively hunting the person. I think it's really important to note that this instructor was doing everything correctly. Keeping calm, keeping the attention of the bear and leading it away! I also love his commentary it was so sweet! Just because bears are very scary animals doesn't mean you need to say mean things to them so thanks for being nice to our bear! Merci❤️

Not a Brown, a young grizzly. The bear ignores the other people and running not at top speed and looking around all over as it runs. It is just wants to race, playing.

Bear was trying to get his lunch.
Brown Bears are similar to wolf's and humans. They are endurance hunters. This brown bear could have followed for hours waiting for this guy to get tired.
This bear seemed to be actively hunting people... I hope it was trapped and relocated.
Much more likely it was curious, seems like a young bear

It happened in Poiana Brasov, not in Predeal, the two ski resorts being about 12 miles apart.

Brown bears are an apex predator. Not taking this seriously is a mistake. The bear looks young and unsure if its approaching prey or threat. Bear's goal, pacing around in front to the right then back left, was to separate the pack and find the weak one. The instructor obliged, separating himself. Possibly the worse decision. With no group to defend him, he was one slip away from being lunch.
bears are only classified as apex predators because they are not preyed upon by other animals.
But they're not predators that hunt and kill to survive. They do fish trout and salmon out of the rivers, but bears mainly eat plants. They are omnivores and opportunistic scavengers.
of course, polar bears are carnivores and apex predators but are classified as marine mammals.
But brown and black bears are pretty solitary animals. Unless it's starving, or has it's cubs, or it gets startled, a bear usually won't attack humans.
Idk about this assessment. That bear was little more than a cub, and looking for someone to play with. Doesn't mean it isn't dangerous, but it wasn't looking to eat them.
@@SIX6SIXer ok so Mike what do you think this bears intention was? Maybe I'm being native here but the way it laid its head down etc looked so cute, like it wanted to play? You think it getting so close before they started running, that if it really wanted to it could have gotten the guy?
@@emilyh.8704 i didn't say it wanted to play. i said they're not predators that hunt animals for food and aren't usually aggressive, a few circumstances aside.

WHY WASN'T THIS BEAR IN HIBERNATION ?
Bears don't always hibernate throughout the entire winter and since this bear is fairly Young it probably didn't build up enough fat to have a full hibernation.
I live in grizzly country and you see it often.

I think he was brave. He drew the bear away from the crowd on the top of the hill. Them slowed down to keep the bears attention as he closed in on some other skiers downhill. I would probably had barreled down to the bottom as fast as I can.
He was the ski instructor and was leading the bear way from his group and then other skiers down the slope

this guy is a dummy if they just seen another brown bear a month ago shouldn't they have a gun on the instructors just to be safe? like he could've let off a warning shot and it might ran away but that was definitely not smart to keep slowing down amd stopping while the bear was a full charge running down that mountain smh some people....
Or maybe he was doing it deliberately to draw the bear away from the other people. He is an instructor, after all.

In Romania is illegal to carry a gun. It would be crazy to allow this
