It seems like the nostalgia focuses at about 30 years prior to where we are. There was a ton of 50s nostalgia in the 80s--I worked at a garden/landscaping store and we started getting lots of requests for 50s lawn ornaments (like the tinted, mirrored orbs that sat on a pedestal and plastic pink flamingos).
I just scored a beautiful 1966 Slim L1 as part of a larger lot for peanuts. I need to clean it, but otherwise it seems perfect. I can't believe how substantial it feels. Just an absolutely solid hunk of metal. It's a little hard to believe it's 55 years old. I'm just getting into this hobby, but I can tell it could get out of hand quickly!
I'm based in the UK, and you're right it's easily available here. One thing you will notice with this cream is that inside the tube, after awhile, the paste can separate a little. Meaning, you come to squeeze your tube and an oily liquid can come out, plus paste, too. It's a very easily rectifiable feature this, if you remember to give your Ingram tube a jolly good shake BEFORE squeezing onto your brush. This 'separation' inside the tube can happen, if you haven't used the cream for a fair while. (Actually many shaving creams in tubes can present that 'separation'.) One other thing: don't know whether you were in a rush or simply it's your style of lathering, but personally I'd have worked the cream into a more voluminous lather on the face. Of course, if you were happy with what you got then that's what matters Cheerio!
Awesome that you acknowledge the Slim as a great shaving razor. The BIC Platinum is my go-to blade, also. In combination, this razor & blade's shave is unexcelled!
I'm in the UK and regularly use Ingram. When I first tried it a few years ago, I really didn't think much of the scent, but as you say it's a nice clean scent and over time it's really grown on me. It's one of my go-to creams for an easy shave now!
Gosh, I have an inner battle with myself because I enjoy the look of my beard, but I love the feeling of shaving. I wish it weren't this way... so I just watch your videos so that way I feel like I've shaved haha

Hey, nice to see you did a video with the Slim. I just shaved my head with my "new" '63 Slim Adjustable on setting 7. Having a full beard at the moment I've yet to try any of these DE's on my face. ;-)
It’s thanks to you that I converted from cartridge to safety razor recently. It wasn’t perfect, but definitely felt smoother than what I used before. Thanks for inspiring me that you can use a safety razor with Barbasol.

Started wetshaving about a week ago and loving it. I'm using a Pearl three piece (from India) - mild-aggressive maybe, but I found that I can modify the blade gap (to make less aggressive) by using a thin strip of electrical tape on the underside of the top piece where the blade touches on each side!! BTW, I bought a Vintage 1966 Slim Adjustable on Ebay for $US50 including overseas postage, so not so cheap these days, but seems like a good razor to have, being adjustable and not as expensive as a Merkur progress or Parker Variant. Was going to go for a Rockwell 6C, but weighing things up, the Slim Adjustable may be better ...
Another good shaving video. The slim adjustable was my first vintage razor, and i like it a lot. Looking forward to see you use the vintage barbasol cream. For me the bic blades did tug and was hopless to shave with, maybe it was a bad batch, ingrams is good, not as much menthol as you said, if you want a good strong menthol soap, buy Yeti snot shaving soap, made in USA, if they still sell it. Or PAA frostbyte, i have only used yeti snot, it makes my eyes run. Lol
Thanks for the shoutout! Glad I inspired you in my last video to use your Vintage Gillette Slim Adjustable. Beware: I am going to be tagging you in a new Challenge Video soon.
I see folks using vintage razors, but never vintage blades. When I came up, shavingwise, the great innovation was stainless blades, replacing carbon steel as in Gillette Blue Blades etc. (well before cartridge razors). The great thing about stainless was longevity, but they were not perhaps quite as sharp. Wondered if you ever come across vintage blades to go along with vintage razors and how you feel about relative performance. I have not seen anyone do this (using vintage non-stainless blades) on TH-cam and was curious about if it might interest you. Thanks, I enjoy watching...
If you like menthol try the green proraso with eykalyptus end mint i think. you feel a fresh, burning sensation from the herbs its fantastic and the smell feels like that it wakes you up with energy......its very afordable on price too
