Yeah i was kinda disappointed with that item. That said, it's just a unique aspect. Its not meant to replace ball lightning or your core/mastery etc. It's just an extra proc. You wouldn't compare it to ball lightning damage, you would compare it to an aspect on an amulet - i.e. +38% damage with a barrier, +50% damage to stunned/frozen, +100% armor etc.
You are truly the man to do this kind of testing. I have been dying to know if Esadora is worth it and glad to know it is. It'd be okay at 15% chance if it was the crackling energy doing dmg and not during the pick up.
I know people have been dunking on this unique since launch, but this season its rolls help the cookie cutter ball lightning build a lot. The reason for this is because it rolls with high move speed which feeds directly into ravenous and Esu's. In my case it is also better than a standard amulet since I have yet to find one with move speed or rolled it after lots of gold.
I’m glad you tested this out, I went all in as well on Crackling Energy and it’s a waste of time. So I’m going to get rid of that paragon board and do something else, I’ve removed that unique amulet yesterday and went back to my favorite legendary one, I’m also All Ball Lighting at level 100.
I've been doing similar testing with it and came to about the same conclusion. Its not THAT bad as just complimentary damage to ball lightning but its definitely underwhelming. I think a great buff for it would be to also stun enemies when it procs, that would give it pretty good synergy with the rest of the build.
They need some mechanics to pull crackling enegy, blood orbs and other such objects up/suck them to you or even have increased pick up radius (even gold and mats) even if in a paragon node, affix or unique that uses it. Like on Esadora's "Crackling Energy are slowly pulled towards you" (instant is overpowered).
Crack production, movement damage multiplier, mana regen, move through enemies(to collect crack),Burning enchantment, that is just a side missile to the real balls of the build. Hint esters boots/ movement damage multiplier, teleportion wand, movement damage amulate into ring. Pulsating electric field basically.
Just read more carefully. It’s not 50x. It’s 50%x per 100. So if you have 1000 intelligence. It takes that 4,000 damage and multiplies it by 5x. So only doing 20,000 roughly. Not that great.
My test with a ball lightning build, show a 20 times increased damage on each proc. I have decent, not high end build(only have tals and raiment), and im doing around 40k dmg average. And I proc 800k-1M dmg every 2 sec, destroying all trash mobs, and doing massive dmg to bosses. So it works great for me.
While I get what you’re saying by it’s lack luster, but to get crackling energy to spawn you need to use skills therefore it’s better suited as a gimmick belonging to a dedicated build like ball lightning to further supplement your DPS on ball lighting, I would venture a guess that the devs never intended for a full build to be built around this amulet ☠️
I agree with what you said. When I think about this unique I think it's just meant to add more stun to a crackling energy damage boost build not an actual crackling energy build lol
I like the Crackling Build, but there is this effect that has this lucky hit effect that makes this less effective. It would be nice for Blizzard to fix this to be effective. What I do to make it "ok-ish" is combine it with Hydra. Then, I will have the Burning-Over-Time on the moobs, but it could be better on bosses. I'm not a big fan of the Lightning Ball because I prefer the Range DPS builds. Therefore, I'm trying the combination: Chain Lightning + Hydra + Crackling. It could be better on bosses, but it's fun to play! This is the close that I have from my favorite Diablo 3 build: Multishot + Sentry.
My ball lightning build relys on crackling energy for mana. I simply move a stem and consume 6+ energy. If they arent consumed i can consume 10+. I basically spam cast, take a single step once my mana is gone, im back to full, spam cast. If instead of spam casting i just ran through the dozens of energy im guessing it would deals some serious dmg. I have a TON of crackling energy when i play. This unique just seemed kinda gimmikey to me tho.
I'm in the middle of putting together my own version of this and am really enjoying it so far. I think the biggest mistake you're making is you're not leaning into the crackling energy enough. Plus pairing it with lightning spears. I have a ways to go yet, but it's looking promising.
by the time you activate enough crackling energy and pick it up, you still are significantly slower than any active build, but If you have a sigil 100 with this build im curious to see its clear speed
I appreciate the fact you spending the time to think about crack builds. Since you willing to try diff things, can I suggest you try an incinerate build? Ive been working on one and it seems that it is possible to get a working incinerate build with the vampire powers this season. I feel there is something I'm missing because boss damage is still a bit on the slow side but there is possibly a skill or interaction im missing to make it work. Thanks!
Maybe the shocking impact should be replaced with the one that gives you a chance to spawn crackling energy with a crit so you can build better withiut having to focus on chain lightning or ball lightning. You also need the aspect that gives your cracking energy a chance to ricochet and also pair it with the teleport passive that allows your crackling energy to hit two additional enemies and also add in the key passive to hit even more enemies so that mutliple cracks and ricochets happen at one time so that enemies can actually be hit multiple times by each proc. Crackling energy does around 20%-25% damage, its supposed to be more of a bruiser type ability (mulitple hits to wear down enemy hp).
Post level 80 it’s like B tier, 60-80 it’s actually doable while looking for gear. It works ok in open world when you’re zipping around but there’s better if you got it.

I don't understand why it's so hard for them to make good uniques. Especially uber uniques. The fact that melted heart of selig didn't get any major changes is wild.
ill go further... its usless and collecting dust in my storage for eternal ive picked up 15 and nothing its way too random i trust my lightning spear and frost nova procs with unstable way more as i always have a barrier and i never take damage nor do i ever see my mana drop and thats with 9/3 glass cannon and yes im using arc with bl and frost nova in my enchant slot.. i find it funny streamers tell me the build is trash but hey i never die.. full mana perm 60% max life barrier and im just 6 sec slower than the major bl builds out there.. oh and my uc cool down resets less than 4 sec now so good here
It's really a shame the CE does so little damage. I have some things I really wanted to try, like going all out on Lightning Spear and it's still so bad
I run it on my Ball Lightning Sorcerer but I also use Soulbrand and Temerity...also I just took it off when I got the Melted Heart... Its not technically the "best" build but it still melt shit...
not the smartest attempt... Dont try to scale crackling energy, just generate MORE crackling energy to proc nova. The 925 amulet goes up 7k damage, thats 75% higher than what you have there. This item has 3 awesome stats baked in: movement speed, cooldown reduction and 3 ranks of shocking impact. SHOCKING IMPACT DUNKS ON BALL LIGHTNING at lower level content. So, you place Lighting Spear as an enchantment, pick Invoked Lighting Spear and just WALK towards the crackling orbs. You dont need mana cost reduction, resource generation and other shit. Not every item needs to be a late game power house, some are just step stones.
"dunks on lower content" what is the point of using an end game item (unique) on WT1? it also req's you to scale with High int, which you wouldn't get until late game also collecting the energy would be slower and less efficient vs any respectable speed build especially if you only prefer doing low tier content
xfals is flat damage not based off the hit that deals it, also crackling has no LHC, so im curious how it becomes good, can you post a sigil 100 with the build?
@@Slaydra so yes crackling has lucky hit every ability now has lucky hit due to fire bolt the balls the zaps everything does burn damage so you always have that chance it seems to proc alot to. If theres a group of mobs and it procs it kills them all i seen it proc a few times just on a single boss

This title is the bait. I used this for NM 100´s and Lilith. Sure might not be the best build but its viable for sure.

Yeah I would go with something else as all of the paragon points does not justify the damage output.
Esadora definetely should have a higher proc chance, like at least 35% with sort of auto sucking crackling energy around you.

Bro swap charged bolts for lightning nova and then make charged bolts pierce and attract from that amulet and bam your good

I got the x fal ring running this build and it melts when u have fire bolt enchantment
