    My crappie casting rod that has the spiral guides works really well, the main thing it was for were helping with super limp light lines further north, with icing issues of line on the blank, but it works great all around, love it and I think they are discontinuing them of course lol.

      @@TackleAdvisors you know, to me it made perfect sense to pick up for the $35. The icing isn't an issue down here as much, but it helps detect the faint strikes crappie can pull at times by being spiral. I talked to a guy over a tackle company I didn't know was up your way yesterday and I have to give them credit on customer service, Mega Strike. I had picked up one of their buzzbaits Roland Martin was on and the skirt came off fast, sent me a replacement for free and after talking for a few minutes threw in a new lure they aren't even selling yet for me to try out and get back to him about...great people, and even called back three times to get ahold of me to make sure my address was right since it didn't show up right when she keyed it in.

    I really really wish at least one of the great American rod makers like G Loomis, St Croix, Phenix, etc would build some true casting BFS rods. Rods geared toward trout fishing and could also cross over for panfish if needed. It probably won't happen though. The manufacturers figure they probably wouldn't sell enough units.
    The thing is....it's very hard to get your hands on a BFS casting rod from a maker like Tenyru much less a rod like a Jackson Super Plugging. They stay sold out. American rod makers are oblivious and just stay with the same ol stuff geared for the most part towards tournament bass fishing.
    BFS fishing is growing though. More are more reels that are so technologically advanced are being introduced by Shimano and Daiwa just for BFS. Apparently they think its profitable. We're never gonna match Japan on reels but why not rods for that market segment? G Loomis was so good Shimano bought it.
    St Croix....I'd like a like a 6' casting rod for 1/16 - 3/8 oz baits, 4-8 lb line, with a very nice reel seat for twitching jerkbaits in streams please.

    What's the appeal of BFS? Why not use spinning or a fly rod for that beautiful stream? I'm honestly curious, not criticizing.

    • @MyNameJefe
      @MyNameJefe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Because it's fun! Nah but for practical reasons, it's very easy to control line on a baitcaster for some of us and we can nail some very accurate casts that are simply too hard to pull off with spinning gear. If you check out the Enjoy Fishing Channel, he displays some of the most precise BFS casting I've ever seen for trout in tiny mountain streams. Personally, I still stick with spinning for trout in small streams; I'm still casting into trees and getting birds nests with my baitcasting gear.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are drastic drawbacks as seen at the end...an over run can cost you rare lures. But it's soooooo much fun. It has benefits such as no line twist, casting speed and efficiency. Accuracy, control, and repeat-ability. Dropping back in current. Weigth reduction. 1 hand cast and retrieve. Less complexity of gear and longer like new performance. But where spinning out performs.....is where bfs really can put ya in a bind. Wind, Lots of brush or surrounding cover, unexpected obstacles. But as mentioned before....It really is reaalllllllyy fun

    Clicked the link for the Loomis rod, saw the price, and almost gagged. An UglyStik GX2 spinner in either 4'6' or 4'8" ( new ) is $40 ... They work like a charm with 2 lb. test and especially with 3/4 lb "invivible thread". Not too "whippy", with considerable backbone, they can toss 16th oz maribou jigs all day, anywhere in the stream. Without a noodle for a rod-tip, you retrieve the jig while tapping the rod blank with your index finger, causing the jig to 'breath".

      @@TackleAdvisors The "one-handed cast/retrieve" is certainly a unique technique ... one thing we can't do with a spinner, no matter how small. Those little plugs are cute, but expensive. If you have a reel you like already.. See if they make a bfs spool.. For between 40$ and 150$ USD you may be able to get a bfs spool. There are some cheap alibaba reels but you have no recourse, quality control is Meh, and who knows if they actually work as advertised.

      Not on the last two builds. I did it for convenience. Had I wrapped them all on top. I'd have to add between 5 and 7 more guides to keep the line from hitting or going below the blank. Both are bone stock. I like the bonus light weight and smaller size plus the clicky drag of the aldebaran. I like the quiet smoother casting of the daiwa. Worth noting.. A dab of glue may help if you add the extra magnets. I've had em pop up and flip over which rubs the inside of the spool. Not sure if the daiwa does it but I've had over runs... Loose loops while using 4lb fluro get under the spool of the aldebaran...
