I'm not an electrician by any means. I found a pair of Klein Journeyman pliers on the side a rural road in my area while out on my daily walk. I didn't know they were lineman pliers until much later. However, they were clearly quality pliers and inspired me to seek out better tools for work around the house.

Great find QB, buying quality stuff just makes sense in the long run. Quality items just last longer and saves you a ton of money. Now I’ll be the first to admit that every tool I buy are not high quality or high dollar tools, but 95% of them are. Beware QB buying tools are very addictive... Take care sir, stay healthy.

Ty for this. I always reach for the channel lock first over the klein. I just find it smoother, sharper and lighter. Really liked that you weighed them. I thought about upgrading to wiha but i really dont want to add even a single ounce more to my bag lol. So, thank you again. Great vid! :)

I too choose the Channellock over the Klein for all the same reasons you just mentioned. If you’re looking for a lighter durable plier(s) don’t choose Klein, Wiha, Southwire. Try Knipex, Ideal, or Channellock. Thanks for stopping by the channel.

Im a big fan of the klein multi plier... has a 6 and 8-32 bolt cutter, crimper, strips 14 and 12 awg solid copper wire. The only thing making it less then perfect was no legit fish tape puller but I took care of that with a dremal and a small cut off disk. Cut one in because thats what I do... custom and make things better. Nice vid!

Try the Knipex forged wire stripper. Basically the same setup but you can strip a wider range of AWG, has notches in the strippers to score the sheath on Romeo and the 6&8-32 you don’t have to thread the bolt.
Only 6 months but they still seem brand new. Nice wide head on the pliers…I hardly use my linesman much unless needed

What was impressive about this video is the reviewer put his 15 yo pair of Klein pliers against brand new everyone else and the Klein pliers still ranked in the top notch group. I personally own Klein this videos shows it was a wise choice. Update I bent the pin in my kleins they're useless now. Ideal is easily an Apex manufacturer. I own a pair of ideal now. So far they're everything my kleins were but better. I liked the handle grips and the shape. The handles are closer together and more comfortable. The grips feel great. The head is slightly smaller and is easier to work with. I'm glad I found my ideal pliers before I spent a bundle on knipex. That's what shows me ideal is an electricians brand. The Knipex or Klein equivalent to my 30 dollar ideal pliers cost 70 dollars from both klein or knipex.

Excellent review sir. This is how a review comparison should be done. This person did a great job representing everyone in the tool trade fairly with all like models of each manufacturer. Most importantly he did a cutting test with each set, something I consider essential to any comparison review. I do wish it could have been a longer Video and more various material used to cut in cutting test such as screws and MC. I also wish he had shown the results of the cutting test with the tail tell rope cut test and light bulb test on cutters. Excellent job and much more unbiased than most review videos where you can tell the reviewer has already chosen Knipex as his choice from the beginning of the review.

I personally like Klein lineman pliers. I use the standard dark blue handle version. Work great. I currently use the NE nose version, but have a brand new pair of square nose Kleins to break out when I turn out. Figured new chapter in life needs a new pair of Kleins. I actually really like the hard plastic red Klein grips you can install.
Not a huge fan of comfort grip handles personally. I've also had a pair of Knipex which were nice, but I just like my kleins. I've used the Ideal pliers a few times actually like them a lot. Seem like nice pliers, I do like the comfort grip on them, don't feel as bulky in hand. I don't like crimpers or fish tape pullers on mine pliers, I like em simple.

Great comparison video. I just bought a small made in Japan Vampliers screw extraction plier. They are awesome. They also make screw extraction linesman pliers, but I have not heard of anyone using them as linesman pliers. I have only seen them being used as heavy duty screw extraction pliers. That is why I decided not to get the linesman version and checkout my other options for pliers.

I’ve seen the Vampliers before and their version of linesman pliers are much smaller than the U.S. versions of linesman pliers. I’m not saying that the Vamplier aren’t quality pliers you just aren’t able to use them in a way that most electricians use the American made linesman pliers.

Excellent video, I just wish you would've gave 'em all the penny test. (cutting a penny in half). . . . . . I own four pairs by 4 brands. Klein, Knipex, Greenlee and Snap On. I never buy the comfort grip style like you have (except with the Knipex, and that was because that is the only way they come). . . The Kleins are what I carry in my pouch. If I had to rank the 4 pairs that I own I would rank Klein #1, Knipex #2, Greenlee #3 and Snap On #4. (((( The Snap On pair failed the penny test . . A coworker a few months ago purchased those Doyle linesman pliers (Harbor Freight's new professional line of pliers) and brought them to work we all gathered around to see the "Penny Test" and they failed it, I've seen Craftsman (Sears version), Carlyle and Irwin linesman pliers all fail the penny test . . . . . . . . . maybe I should do a video on that.

Their Linesman or any of their other style of pliers. they make? Only negative with Knipex, is that they seel more than any other brand, which means, that mecause of the mass production, there will always be a chance, where you can get a defective new tool. There are other high quality brands out there, but Klein was persistent at engraving their brand into the minds of every skilled tradesman in the world 🌎. And they’ve succeeded. A couple of small points!
First these pliers all appear to be North East linesman pliers!
Having watch your video I suggest a little research into countries of manufacture is in order.
Wilha pliers are manufactured for about ten years in Vietnam , unfortunately at the price point they trading off a German brand name.
Cresent is OWNED BY APEX and have been made in CHINA for 20 years
I believe Southwires is manufactured in China
The only U.S. Manufactured pliers I'm positive on are the Channellocks and Klieins
Note: Klien's are not hardened for steel unless its the 2000 series.
I believe GB is manufactured in Mexico.
I agree with others there is no comparison with KNIPEX they are superior in almost every way! Check 67 Hardness test numbers. But you need to compare other German brands such as NWS/Felo linesmans and VBM.
A couple of interesting brands to add would be URERA out MEXICO , GEDORE out of AUSTRIA BOTH ARE COMPARABLE WITH THIS GROUP!

Thanks for stopping by, I’m not sure if you’re talking about the KNIPEX COMBINATION PLIERS or not ? If so I’m not sure if that’s a defect or not. I don’t own a pair of KNIPEX COMBINATION PLIERS, but as you can see have the KNIPEX LINESMAN PLIERS and they don’t have any gaps between the blades ,but they do have a small gap between the teeth. And that gap is there so you won’t crush the wire/ conductor while pulling. I my answer satisfied your question. Thanks for your question, and be safe.

@@TheElectriciansToolChannel yes im talking about knipex combination pliers 7", i now the gap in jaws are normal, but these have very thin gape between cutters, although its not a big deal because they still cut ok but as you know everyone praises Knipex and its perfection in quality so I was't expecting this flaw.

I understand, but you must realize that a lot of the people who create all the hype about anything on TH-cam are paid bloggers or bloggers trying to get paid by a company in cash or free tools so they can make extra income by selling those free products on EBAY or AMAZON. @@AsBi1 A gap is pretty common between the cutting blades. I own lots of Knipex (and other brand) pliers and some have very small gaps between the cutting blades and some dont. They all still cut a sheet of paper tho with ease.
Knipex pliers are awesome, i dont use any other brands these days but you have to understand, its still mass fabrication and you will see various minor imperfections which doenst hurt the functionality at all.
People praise Knipex pliers not because they are perfect but because they last and get the job done. Plus they are the only, i think, company out there who gives you a shitload of options for their pliers. They know how to make pliers, thats all they do and have been for a long long time.

Yes and no Andrew Knipex being overrated and overpriced ? It depends on who you asked no as far as being overrated, I agree with you because even though I think they are very high quality they’re not ALL THAT !!! Now I don’t think they’re worth the price they’re being sold for either , but again they’re among the best linesman pliers out there. I think CHANNELLOCK and IDEAL are better quality than Knipex plus they’re cheaper, that’s just my opinion.

    • @andrewsalazar98
      @andrewsalazar98 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@TheElectriciansToolChannel Knipex makes beautifully-machined tools and their cobras are second to none, but the linesman pliers and diagonal pliers cutting surface isn’t closed out-of-the-box like the USA brands making it almost impossible to make a clean cut through muletape and CAT 6 cable. The steel used to make the pliers sends shocks through your hand every time you cut something and the pliers make contact, which is something you don’t get in USA pliers. Also, the steel used doesn’t hold up as long as USA steel for some odd reason.
In my own conclusion, the cutting surface is poorly designed and the steel seems to be of inferior quality to even Channellock which is more than half the price. Knipex water pump pliers are the best I’ve ever used, but their linesman and diagonal cutting pliers are inferior in every way to any USA brand.
