mine is 32% but i did only start afew months ago so it will take time to build it up. not too worried about clearing anything out yet though because im still so new
Since I'm clearing a personal estate, and three households of "STUFF" everything is a profit. However, when I find a great DVD @ the thrift, I try to ensure it's resale is $25+ I picked up three today and they all went back on the shelf after I checked the ebay comps!
240% sell through rate. I end things on the 30th day of listing and sell similar so I never have items in my store listed for longer than 30 days. I think I’m going to have a clear out with my DVDs, anything under £6 I’ll get rid of.
My wife actualy pointed out the stock that sits.. that is behind you a few weeks ago. Week after week stock just sitting. My goal is to avoid this also. I have about 70 items that have been sitting for almost a year now, and I'm over it. What's interesting is all the new stock I purchase is selling within a month.
We're running down the same path, our tactic is to bundle as many under ten buck titles as we can especially now eBay is holding our funds ransom unless they're tracked, we've done no wrong, it's buyers not leaving feedback which has caused our nightmare!
How timely this video came out. I noticed just this last weekend and was thinking I've got a lot of dead stock not moving and I need to organise better with SKU. Thanks again 👍
A tactic I use is to end and relist my unsold listings every so often. That makes them more visible to potential buyers. I always notice sales increases when I do this so it definitely does work.
I was going to say 'Slip, Slop' Slap'. 🌞 🧢 😎 No need to apologise for getting sunburnt, mate!!! One of the dangers of living in Australia! That PSVITA sale is brilliant! THOSE are the ones you want... where you make one sale that covers the entire outlay on multiple items... the rest is the gravy. Congratulations on your record-breaking November. Both you and Courtney should be very proud of yourselves. 👍
I have 2 stores, one has about a 100% sell through rate. It stocks health supplements which sell out every month. Profit margins are tight and the cost of importing from the US is so high I'll probably close it soon after going 5 years. The other store is collectables and vintage items and has a sell through of less than 30% but is much more profitable.
I sell scratched DVD's all the time even heavily scratched. I just list them as Good Condition or Acceptable if they are really bad. I've sold lots of Acceptable DVD's with heavy scratching. Not ideal but if they work they work!
So long as you have a DVD 📀 player to check that they do actually work!!! Forgot that my laptop 💻 doesn’t have a dvd 📀 player, left my portable dvd drive behind, in error. Have had to leave behind lots of dvd sets, with scratches on them 😢
My sell thru rate is about 10%. My ASP varies between 35 and 75 each month. There's no such thing as a dead listing if its the only one available. Pop culture media is different since you have the exact same items as many others.
Great tips and I was shocked how many dvds you had upstairs as well. I see the ones behind you regularly and thought that was a lot to sell, but seeing more, that’s a lot of work. I hope we see some footage of you selling at the markets, although I’ve heard it’s hard to get a spot there. Looking forward to your next video.
I'm wondering why you didn't push this to January when sales might be lower anyway? Did you consider sourcing and listing for a couple of weeks in December to maximise Christmas sales or was that not a factor? I love the detail you go into and admire the organised way you approach your business.
thrift stores are pretty quiet pre-xmas so we're going to go hard on listing new items from Jan, 2024. Still 2,200 items so sell in store so im still confident we can get decent sales in December pre-xmas!
Curious what you think the impact will be of not listing x number of items each day? It seems like that has been such a key thing for you so far, so I imagine you think it’s pretty important
Yeah the plan to not have new listings go live every day doesn’t sit easy with me so this will be an interesting couple of weeks to see how sales are impacted!
The mechanics of the business. Been doing this all year tweeting prices for now. Purging stuff that does not sell. And finding right inventory for the right platform. I am now running 4 stores I can say selling out of m not o good buys. Moving huge volume. In usa sleepBay is strange. Good sale then sleep.
I have been systematically donating stuff I have had for too long, also doing bundles , eg five pairs of size 30 boardshorts (good brands) for $60 free post -the bundles are moving. After Christmas I am going to liquidate most of what is left (around 500 items) through a cheap garage sale. I will only be keeping and buying 'better' in future. My sell through rate remains a mystery - I don't want to know! As a hobby seller and not trying to make a living out it , it doesn't really matter.
Hey just a question about calculating sell through rate. Should you add active listings and sold items before calculating percentage of sold items? Total items = 2570 + 1190 = 3760 Percentage sold = 1190 ÷ 3760 = 31%
With Christmas on the way & being part of a community Christmas, my place is a shambles & I really need to get on top of it in the new year, new tubs, a sku system & a massive cull of dead items wil be happening.
I don’t fully understand one thing here. If you want an ASP of $40, wouldn’t you want your average listed price to also be $40? If you’re planning an average listed value of $35, surely you’re going to end up with an ASP of $35 also? Or less when you consider offers, coupons etc.
I’m basing it off the existing numbers discussed in this video. I had a $28 average store value and a $33 average sale price. The sporadic $100+ items I find generally go on to sell causing the average sale price to sit a little higher. Regardless the $35 goal is an immediate goal to end 2023 and the $40 asap is more a long term 2024 goal. I hope that helps
If selling a DVD for $5 your profit might be in the cents than dollars, at that point unless you are selling thousands it might not be worth the effort (even then)
Yep. by cutting out all the $10 DVD's which we used to source / list we're increasing the average profit amount per DVD sale making it very much worthwhile. The average buy price is minimal in this category.
You are calculating sell through rate wrong. Its sold listings / (active listings + sold listings) ie 1190 / (2570+1190) = 31.6%. Because you actually had 3760 listings over that 90 day period.
What are your thoughts on listing things with 'free' postage? I try it now and then, but I usually do postage as an add-on as that enables buyers to get combined postage for savings on multiple purchases.
You need to be doing a yearly if not half yearly stocktake and this would have brought stale non selling stock to your attention earlier. You then could run stock take sales to reduce cost of those stale items to clear.
My sell through is much lower than 50% but my asp is much higher and profit margin is a lot more than 10% . I do have stock from when I started 2 years ago and they were not the best quality compared to what I source now . I’m considering donating some in the new year to de clutter
Hey Matt, Quick question do you have just the 1 store or do you have 2 stores to separate your media from your say clothing? Would there be benefits to having two stores. Just trying to suss it out. Thanks
Why not lot and auction mixed DVD lots on the cheap stuff? Start them super cheap, charge calculated shipping, and liquidate while regaining some cash and increase sell through rate of your store. Plus a few auctions running will bring eyes to your remaining buy it now DVD listings.
@@TheAussieFlipper BTW this is my personal account for aBizarreProject. Glad the hats are moving nicely for you. Looks like you've already come close to hitting profit on the whole lot already just from what you've shown in videos.
This is something I've been considering. I source DVDs in bulk which means I'm left with 100s of DVDs that aren't worth posting individually - think I'm going to lot them into genres and aim for about $1 profit on each DVD. Haven't tried it yet but I know it works for CDs so fingers crossed there's some interest in DVD lots too.
@@Oscar_Armstrongyeah I would just bin them. There's a reason there is no profit in low value dvds and that's because nobody wants them. Bin them. Get the space back. Fill that space with stuff that will sell for decent profit. In the long run, you will make more money. Hope this is helpful.
Great video. My sell through rate is 240%. How much do you worry about completing item specifics (recommended, not required). I have quite a few recommended item specifics to complete but not sure if it makes a difference to sales?
Nice suntanned nose Matt 🤣🤣🤣 I started doing an end of year stocktake of my ebay store yesterday, and found that 3 out of the first 14 items had already disappeared off my Ebay store after less than 1 year in the listings. So frustrating. So its back to... stocktake, check, relist... repeat ! Bloody Ebay
Have you ever considered you sell through rate is actually too high and your profit margin is too low? Profit margin is everything. You should be prepared to sit on items for large profit
There’s no such thing as a too high sell through in my eyes. Margins are healthy across the board when you’re buying media for $1. The idea is to cut out the low value items
HI, Rather than reduce prices why not run a Markdown sale of you have that function down under. Also instead of using the flea market, you could run a markdown of 50% (say) on those items ? obviously, making sure your cover post and packing plus fees.?
I'm curious to know what your sell through rate is? Divide your sales total by active listings and drop it in the comments below..

these tips are always helpful, just a reminder to clean out the non selling stuff, list it differently (bundles etc)
funnily enough i just sold something that had been sitting for many months on my store.. so maybe just focus on the stuff taking up space first.
