    this guy has no idea what he is doing. you never put heat on this stuff, if you do replace it.

    I repair transit buses. Similar setup as this, just less room to work in. Anyway. We never use heat unless we are going to replace the spindle assembly also. This guy just needs a larger (10, 12, or 16) pound sledge hammer. If I had that sort of access, I would use the 16 pound sledge. One or two good hits and the end drops down without any weight being added or unnecessary stress on the rod itself. I know everyone does it differently, but yeah.

      Yahh bigger hammer. :)
      The pressure helps. I have used the weight of the vehicle to put some pressure.

    100 TIMES FAST AND EASIER IF YOU SIMPLY USE MADDOX FRONT END KIT - TIE ROD PULLER!

    Pull the wheel and tire off you can then get a real swing at it with a 10lb hammer from the outside. No heat needed.

    Um couldn't we just use a ball joint splitter? I just did on a 2016 kenworth t680 with disk brakes. I'm just saying.

    How about a magnetic flashlight ? Instead of using your phone light ! Keep both hands free to work with, next time tool truck shows up buy one

    wow this guy is a hack. this is why i work on my own shit. put that chain hoist on that tie rod like that bending it to the point the the tire was going down. Then applies heat to ball joint threads when heat expands making it harder to get out. Second of all, never use heat on those components

    This young man just showed you the absolutely wrong and very dangerous way to change a tie-rod....1 never ever heat up any front end part, unless you are going to replace it with a totally new part. The reason for this is the metal is made of very soft metal and once you heat it up passed 375 degrees....you have now tempered the metal ! The reason you don't want the metal to be tempered , in case this truck hits a curb and or gets into an accident, the metal that is now been tempered now is brittle and will break like a peace of glass.front end parts are Designed to bend not break off !!!...results, loss of steering control and a truck carrying a full load of 80,000 lbs driving at 65 mph ...😱😱😱 you do the math! This person is putting other people at rise just because he wants to save the customer a few bucks?....SMDH!....you could buy a whole complete tie-rod assembly for about $200.00 bucks now the customer is safe you labor time everybody is happy, and safe.

      Tempering, in metallurgy, process of improving the characteristics of a metal, especially steel, by heating it to a high temperature, though below the melting point, then cooling it, usually in air. The process has the effect of toughening by lessening brittleness and reducing internal stresses.

      It only requires enough heat to be warm to the touch approx 130 degrees to effect a interference fit but this guy put the heat in the wrong place

  • @allywilkeforsenate
    @allywilkeforsenate 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never put heat to a steering part.It wrecks the temper of the metal.Use a nall joint press.They are cheap enough.

    • @scotthart586
      @scotthart586 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use heat but no where near that much and he put the heat on the wrong place only takes enough heat to be warm to touch to effect a interference fit

    • @allywilkeforsenate
      @allywilkeforsenate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scotthart586 no you can never use heat on a tempered metal part and retain the integrity.It is physicaly imposiible.

    • @scotthart586
      @scotthart586 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you tink 14 degrees is enough heat to damage the integrity of tempered steel? Because that is all it takes to to effect a. Interference fit

    I’m always so triggered when I see people using side cutters in place of needle nose pliers. So when a guy goes to actually cut something with them damn cutters, they are dull as fuck..
