    I have been on that ride this gentleman speaks of, I walked away miraculously with no damage to the truck or load, if anything learn from my pain, when that arms starts to go it will not happen suddendly, if start to feel your steering getting progressively looser as in you have to make bigger movements to compenste for the usual steering play please stop, pull over and check that pitman arm, I ignored that symptom and I had to change my drawers for doing so, be mindful of that steering play.

    My trucks pitman arm is starting to have some play in it, I tightened it up a couple of times but it keeps getting loose again. I was hoping i wouldnt have to replace the steering box and pitman arm. Maybe i should try just replacing the arm first.

    I would guess this pinch bolt has been loose for a while to cause the teeth to be worn out, the rust probable caused it to get loose in the first place. doesnt matter how it happened you just need to check yours out and make sure its not loose, and if the teeth on the gear box is worn out go ahead a replace it also, could lose your steering if the teeth on the gear box are too far gone and you decide its too exspensive to replace both parts.

    Replacing my steering drag link arm in the morning. I got a fork ball joint opener, pry bar and sledgehammer on standby. I’m sure mine is original to the truck.

    If it wiggle to the out is it bad ?
    I mean when I move the steering , it won’t move period but when I try to push it left and right it do wigggle from the side and down , is that normal ?

    Question for ya. Why are you torquing that castle nut to 300 foot pounds when spicer and meritor manual calls for 160 foot pounds for 7/8 inch stud. Yes the standard torque would be 300 pounds but the manual states 160 on the big castle nut. Checked multiple sources to verify. Working on a Pete 379 so I’m just trying to get your input to see what your reasoning is. Thanks for your time pal

    • @DIYSEMI

      Frieghtliner told me 300 so that's what I went with. They said that's the spec they go by. Could be wrong I don't know

    • @shortthrow50

    You made removing the pitman arm look way too easy. I’m trying to remove mine on a 1985 cabover and it’s not wanting to budge. I’m going to try again this week and see if maybe it’ll pop off

    • @LifewithJames
      @LifewithJames 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DIYSEMI I was able to tap it off with a mini sledge. Removing the leftover ball joint from the other end wasn’t so easy but I found a local shop to press it out and they had it back to me maybe 20 minutes later. Now to reinstall tommorow and brush some rustoleum onto it so it doesn’t get all rusty and crusty again, then bolt up the brand new drag link. Everything else felt tight so crossing my fingers that the steering is nice and tight like it should be.

  • @OMotoristaJacobMonteiro
    @OMotoristaJacobMonteiro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just a suggestion. You don't tight enough with the gun that much, or you won't have the wright torque, because the gun overpasses the torque. Nice video, by the way.
