Thank you Lisa for the video. I do not have a designated room for sewing. I hired outside help to help me purge my house. I am at an age where I need to think about clearing out stuff I do not use or need. Purging is basically done, now I need to organize what is left.

I could really use this for some blocks I made 2 or 3 yrs ago, which I want to make into a quilt top. But I'm aging too fast & have always gotten terribly frustrated by computer programs. So for now, s'pose I'll just wing it, & pray for a good outcome. If I were 20 yrs younger, or my kids were closer, possibly. Seems easy enough, right? Or you just make it look that way, lol

I probably have a different version. I got my grids sized and the page sized. However, when I change the background color, the whole screen changes. Also, when I try to create a square (at 10.07 of video), it's forcing me to drag to create it, but it doesn't become it's own square. It won't fill in with a color, either. I'm playing around with it, but not finding what's preventing me from doing this the way you are. Thanks for doing the video! I will keep trying.
I downloaded the most recent version of Inkscape, and I still can't create a shaded box like you did.
Is there a way to print this out on a paper to work from, or do you work on the sewing from your computer?
I work on the computer next to my sewing station but yes you can print this off as well and work on the paper version after it's laid out on the computer. Set the size of your paper to letter, in document properties, then make sure all of your design is in that white box, then save as a pdf.
@LisaCapenQuilts I'm gonna have to work at that. I designed a queen size quilt, changed back to letter size and my design was huge

Hi Lisa, I’m not on Facebook so I’ll ask here:
1. Is Inkscape a free program or paid? I don’t see it in the App Store for iDevices; so maybe it’s just for pc’s?
It seems similar to photoshop; idk if photoshop still exists 😂
2. How come it doesn’t save your changes when you save the file to work on later? I wd think it wd save the changes such as block placement and grid size, etc.

Inkscape is a free program :) It isn't an app you can use on your phone, computer only. Inkscape is a vector based software......kind of like Photoshop but not lol. By default, when opening Inkscape reverts back to a blank defaulted template. You can save your settings as a template, but that's way beyond beginner friendly :) So each time you open Inkscape, you would just change a few settings to accommodate the project you are working on.
