I bought an arctic bag because I sleep cold. Bit heavier but worth it. I use both Thermarest pads to give me an RV of 6.4. Love to know what kind of bag you ordered in Oz. I haven't found anything.
It seems like we both may be walking the CDT next year (2021), although l'll probably start in April (TBD) so we'll likely not meet on the trail (in case you wonder, l saw your website on the 'CDT spreadsheet,' so to call it). I arrived to the same conclusion as you did (7:10) about lightweight backpacks. I rather carry an extra kilo comfortably than 1kg less in pain... Otherwise you have to stick to a 13kg load (15kg max). Regards from London and see you on the trail!
Antonio G oh I never saw this comment! Such a shame about the state of the world... the CDT is on hold for me now. Would have been great to meet out there. Proper packs are so worthwhile!
Hey Eric, It's a small maker in Sydney. Best way to find him is search "Undercling Mike" in the Australian Bushwalking Forum. Doesn't even have his own website but I'm super happy with the quality of the bag he made me. Good luck!
Hi! I'm the gal who posted your article on the PCT 2021 Fb group today. I'm quite happy to see this video. I'm new to thru hiking and am struggling with pack choice. I have an Aura AG65 that is so comfortable but I am worried about it's weight. I bought a ULA Circuit and tried on a Hyperlite. Neither work for me. I need to keep weight off my shoulders. Glad to know someone hiked the PCT with this pack. I may look into switching to the 50L though. Did your gear fit well in the 50L when you had to carry a bear cannister?
The Hiking Chick hey 👋🏻 bear canisters make everything difficult but I still managed to fit it inside the pack. In hind site I wish I had less stuff, would have made it much easier. Often people with smaller packs just attach the bear canister to the outside of their packs, so there are definitely ways around it not fitting in packs.
@@thisramblingrover132 did you ever try the Eja pack or was the lack of hip belt pockets a deal breaker? I like the weight but like hip pockets and it's not as adjustable. I've heard it really maxes out at 35lb carry so it could be tough on longer stretches and water carries.
The Hiking Chick I did while I was out there! I was already so sore from my previous pack and was still carrying too much gear and water for it so swapped from that to the Aura. That’s also when I learnt that no hip pockets were a deal breaker for me.
I bought a levity for the PCT in 2018 too. 920 grams .
You should come and do the TA this year .
Very comprehensive video. Thank you.

Great review of the big 3.
Thanks Dave! Super happy with my Osprey packs ;)

@@thisramblingrover132 No worries. Yes, for me is in "TBD" state... We'll see! Truth is others lost more than us, sadly...
Good overview! What is this custom made version of EE? Inquiring mind(s) want to know lol
