If you watch the making of this video, while they are rehearsing, they are all working out their lyrics, how they want to sing it, when to come in... but Bruce belted out his part perfectly every time like it was the final take. That's why he's The Boss.

He engineered for all 3 supergroups. 3 The only complete groups who were participants were The News and The Pointer Sisters. Bonnie Pointer is the surviving member. RIP to her 3 sisters. 4 Heavy metal musicians were invited but all declined. 5 Madonna wanted to join but was told her voice was "not strong enough". That part went to Cyndi Lauper. Madonna appeared at Live Aid but skipped the ending to express her frustration. 6 Sammy Hagar wanted to join fellow Bay Area musicians HL and the News, LB, SP and Pointer Sisters but had no invitation. 7 Live Aid happened in July of the same year. Some musicians from any of the supergroups performed. Others such as Madonna and Rick Springfield who were not in any supergroup performed.

I say it with sadness in my heart, this song can be defined with one single word: unrepeatable. If in 2024 (or 2025, 2026, it doesn't matter) the greatest musicians and singers joint to try do it again, it wouldn't be the same. It's impossible by only one reason: ego. The musicians and singers of the 80, 70s, etc, understood that they had a debt with their fans. They were famous by them, because of them. Now, it's the opposite: some musicians and singers of the 21st century think that the fans have a debt with them. As if they had to love them per force and forgive everything, even if they do something bad. It's another world. Not in a better way.

The blonde you couldn’t name was Kim Carnes. She is famous for “Betty Davis Eyes”, and was a big song writer in the 1980’s. The stories behind the making of this song is amazing, and some are rather funny despite the somber message of the song. (Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, both famous blind musicians, allegedly joked that if this song wasn’t a one take they would drive everyone home.)

For some reason, even though the genre is different - something tells me you would very much enjoy Dan Fogelburg, "Same Old Lang Syne" about a holiday encounter with an old flame or "Leader of the Band" about Dan's dad. Stevie is arguably the best combo of singing, musicianship & prolific songwriter in the history of all those things. Diana Ross is the woman who sang with Michael Jackson, who introduced the Jackson 5 to the world. The woman you called Diana is Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston’s cousin.

All but two of the people you see in that video are from the USA. All but one are from North America in general. Dan Aykroyd is from Canada (though his musical persona Elwood Blues is from Illinois), and Bob Geldof is from Ireland. Percussionist Paulinho da Costa is from Brazil (and South America is one of the Americas, so he is _an_ American). He isn't shown in the video, but did play on the recording.

There was a famine in Africa and this was the American contribution - collecting money to help. Later - the summer 1985 "Live Aid" was arranged in London and Philadelphia (US) - in stadiums with artists who performed 20 minutes each - and then the other venue had artists/groups doing the same while the stage was prepared for the next performance - - the performance from the venue without artist(s) was shown at the other on big screens and on television world wide via satellites. An estimate of 1.9 billion viewers world wide - - me included from Denmark. The best performance of all - - was "Queen" from London. It can be seen here on TH-cam - also with reactors if you wish - . You will probably know some of the music - - . "Queen" is still considered one of the best groups world wide - of all times - with The Beatles as no. 1. If you are not familiar with "Queen" - they are still touring - they started in 1970 - now with Adam Lambert in front - the original singer was Freddie Mercury who died in 1991 from AIDS you can find more on TH-cam . Thank you for your reaction.

This really shows how everything humans do will just fade into dust. At the time of this, these were huge forces in the music industry and easily recognizable, but for a young person today, they are nobody. Best to follow this up with Kansas's Dust In The Wind because that is all we are. BTW, this isn't a knock on Millie, she has no way of knowing. She actually did pretty good identifying some, probably because she is a musician herself.

Watching the video on a money making platform, without even understanding the context of how and why it came into being is just an act of cultural hooliganism, it diminishes the talented contributions made; the unselfish effort, all these artists put into making a historic jewel. The tragedy that stands behind its success must not belittled for the sake of someone's personal gain. We are the world is in a way, a world heritage musical gift, from those who, at the top of their musical careers, took time from their own personal lives to record a song that could touch millions of hearts, in the hope that their noble cause could stir the general public into charitably coming to the aid of those most in need. Between 1983 and 1985 up to 1.2 million people died of starvation in Ethiopia, as a drought gave way to one of the worst famines seen in modern times. This song (among others) aimed to fund raise money for those affected and was successful in doing so.
