    • @mikeshoe74
      @mikeshoe74 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think Nana has a few years on me, but I'm a child of the 80's. With less options available, TV, radio, and pop culture was much more of a shared experience than it is today. You had your basic television, cable just starting to come around.....not only was the 80's full of talent, just look at the various ages of the artists in these songs. They were all very much still relevant in the music world. Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, they weren't young artists in the 80's, but still topping the billboard charts with hit music, music shared by audiences young and old. I grew up a metal head, and around the birth of rap and hip/hop...but the albums of the other artists I mentioned above would still be in my music collection, and most other kids music collections too. We listened to a wide variety of music in the 80's.

      @Silencio.Encerrado หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kevinmcconnell3641 To explain better:
      I was referring to the musical production, not the birth or creation of the band.
      To focus on the biggest star, and one of those responsible for the project "We are the world" (Michael Jackson). His best album and without a doubt one of the best in the music industry ("Thriller"), is from 1982.
      Lionel Richie, album "Can't Slow Down", 1983.
      Cyndi Lauper, album "She's So Unusual", 1983.
      Journey (Stevie Perry), album "Frontiers", 1983.
      Bruce Springsteen, album "Born in the U.S.A", 1984.
      Of course, the previous decades were wonderful (Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, etc.).
      This is just my opinion and preference.

    Hey ladies... you missed Dionne Warwick.. who is Whitney Housten's auntie.. and also Paul Simon from Simon and Garfunkel fame.. oh and Dan Ackroyd is the one Canadian there.. but he had a band called the Blues Brothers with fellow American John Belushi.. and he has a music club in Los Angeles called the House of Blues.. so that is why he was invited I believe. Lots of others to.. but you can Wiki it for the list! Anyway.. just want to mention.. the UK did this first in December 1984 .. the group was assembled as Band Aid and the song is Do They Know It's Christmas Time .. and it was choc full of UK greats at the time. Then the USA came out with there charity collab in March 1985.. and then lastly Canada did their charity collab assembled as Northern Lights and the song was Tears Are Not Enough .. with a lot of Canadian legends and that came out in May 1st 1985. Now if any other nations around the world did something like this.. I am not aware of it.. but it was a magical time back then seeing and hearing all of these amazing charity collabs!!! 🤩🥰🎶 Cheers from Ontario, Canada 🍁🍁🍁

    The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie in a couple of hours, arranged by Quincy Jones and recorded over night. The location was Kenny Roger's recording studio in Hollywood. Waylon Jennings was invited but left before they shot the video. When he found out the song was going to be a pop song, he said, "this country boy don't sing pop music" and left. Friendships were formed here, many of these artists never met before. Steve Perry and Kenny Loggins later did a duet together. Lionel Richie wrote "Lady" for Kenny Rogers. Billy Joel and Ray Charles did a duet together. Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes had a duet, Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick, both here sang "That's what friends are for" along with Gladys Knight and Elton John who were not here. Harry Belafonte came up with the idea of bringing everyone together on this night. Harry's manager called Quincy Jones first, Quincy said you better call Michael because he's leaving town right after the Grammys, Michael postponed his flight, Lionel was second. Kenny Roger's studio was used because it was the only studio that can fit everyone. Finally, there was a sign on the door that read, "Leave your egos at the door", meaning once you enter this studio, we are all on equal ground. Nobody is more important than someone else. They were in the studio until about 4 AM. They had to get the song done because they had other engagements to get to.

Springsteen just had a concert and flew cross country to be there, Madonna didn't do it because Lauper was involved, they were there so long Al got hammered, Simon was one of the first to be contacted and didn't want to do it until literally last minute...crazy night but one of the best groupings ever

    Hello everyone what a gathering of such talented group of prefomers I have to agree with Donna on that me and Donna are in the same age group both of us were the same age when this song came out. But ladies did you get my message yesterday about the hurricane here in my town of Huntsville Texas that left a bunch of debris and I volunteered with others to help clean up the storm debris and pass out water and food to people that lost their homes too. It would make us all feel better if you are fellow Texans could react to Lulu's birthday requests for teemu mantyrsa wintersun demos the fortin evil pumpkin at NAMM 2020 video 1 and for jari of wintersuns former band ensiferum for ensiferum Lai Lai Hei live wacken by rammie 666 from 14 years ago 570 views which both bands use Viking folklore in their music which I know lulu will love. This is an absolute Masterpiece! I DO want to point out that Band Aid had recorded "Do they know it's Christmas" only a few months earlier.
    Wikipedia has some relevant info on both, including the performers, in the order in which they appeared!
    Like Donna, and others, I too knew nearly all of the singers. I could name them AS THEY WERE SINGING, but like Kathy and Lulu, had a bit of a problem recalling them after the video was stopped!

    Donna you are absolutely right about Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder being an awesome duet. I am just sad they never recorded together was just amazing. They were all Legend in this era and you are right there will never be another performance like this. Music must have great lyrics with a great band and a singer who can sing with great vocals with heart and soul! I feel so blessed and honored to have heard such great music in my life. I have tried today’s music but for me it just does not work but thankfully I have a great collection of older music I acquired through the years. I absolutely loved all of your reactions to this epic song thank you for doing this one.

    Firs off, i did not watch you guys or the video, just your mother, her reaction, and the memories flooding back in her face, when cindy came on, she was nearlly up out of the chair, back at the 80's disco
    i hope you read this, Im around the same age as your mother, out of all the videos you have done, i could see her face, the memories, of the 80's come flooding back, it was my teen years, and to me and your mother the best era, in music, music videos, as there was no internet phones and the likes, a house phone was the best you had.
    She probably as i did, met the love of her live through that era or maybe just before, im not going ask a ldy her age, Im old school, you dont do that, she probably remembers, not just this song, but sitting through the greatest world wide 16 hours concert there ever was, with the UK, the US australia and a couple of small contries gap filling, with star like this world wide, given there time for free
    along with the disco era of the time, the fashion, shoulder pads, flight jackets, sunglasses, from major films of the day, which influenced fashion, and hair styles,
    the greatest 20 minute live performance by queen at live aid, phil collins, who played in the air tonight at wembley, jumped on plane, and travelled against the time zones and played in philly, in the same 16 hour concert
    all dont, with no internet, no mobile phones,
    when you met the love of your life, we had no contact through the day, like today, house phone, but to expensive, you made the next date, before you left that date, see you friday, disco, 6pm hopes she or he would turn up, things were better, you missed each other more

I think that is how/why most of these singers were included in this recording. For those of us who lived during the golden age of radio, ALL these artists' had songs we heard every day on the radio. Their names and music were part of our everyday lives. Now you have to go searching for them.

    Hello ladies, I haven't watched your channel in quite a while being so busy. I had mention to you before that I was a musician, vocalist and songwriter. I'm also self-employed and work from home with my own business and I'm also a bodybuilder, so I have a lot of things going on. But when I got on the computer and went to TH-cam, I saw your channel pop up on my main TH-cam page and you were doing a reaction to this song, so I decided to come and watch it. First off, Lulu is still funny cracking me up. When Kathy asked her who she knew in the video and she mentioned two people and then she kept saying "what's another one, what's another one, what's another one, then she says: I don't know" lol but! she did know Tina Turner at the end too. Hay Kathy, I think you mistook Stevie Wonder for Ray Charles from the beginning of the video? but I said to myself, well, she'll see him soon enough because I knew that he was coming up in the video later on. But if I'm wrong about that, please let me know. Also! I had to laugh when Kathy mentioned Aqua net. lol I can't believe you remembered that back from when I was talking about us using it. Being away all this time and then hearing you mention aqua net in the first video that I've watched of yours in a long time, now, that was funny. And I can't forget about Donna. Hi Donna! Great job ladies. 👍👍👌👌✔✔🎉🎉❤❤

    The making of the song was actually inspired by Bob Geldorfs english project to raise money for the victims of famine in Ethiopia in 1984. He gathered some of Britains biggest stars and made "Do they know it's Christmas?", which became the Christmas no. one on the UK Singles Chart and sold a million copies in the first week. It even kept Whams "Last Christmas" from being no one even though that song was actually released the same year. George Michael (singer in Wham) was on both and knew "Last Christmas" wouldn't be able to match it (but I think in the end his song "won" - the song finally reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 2021 after holding the record for many years as the highest-selling single never to top the charts by the Official Charts Company (OCC) with 1.9 million copies sold (not including streams). And in 2023 combining sales and streams, it also became the third biggest song of all time in the UK. So maybe when we get closer to Christmas you should check them out :-)

      @@KathyLuluandDonna I couldnt remember why exactly but this is what I found on Wikipedia: One musician deliberately omitted was John Denver who had asked to participate but was rejected, despite his previous commitment to charity work. Ken Kragen claimed it was due to some people feeling that Denver's image would affect the credibility of the song as a pop-rock anthem. "I didn't agree with this assessment," Kragen said, but reluctantly turned Denver down. Denver recalled the rejection in his 1994 autobiography "Take Me Home", stating that "It broke my heart not to be included"
