Too many factors were in his favor for the empire’s rise to be stopped at that point

In The Essential Guide to Warfare, it states there were 6 measures that ensured that no one would be able to stop Palpatine.
    1) Emergency Powers Act - eliminated term limits for the duration of the war and gave Palpatine widespread latitude to end the war
    2) Military Creation Act - reestablished the creation of a central Republic military allowing Palpatine to order the clone army into battle
    3) Enhanced Security Enforcement Act - suspended many rights of Republic citizens, and essentially creating a police state
    4) Reflex Amendment - allowed Palpatine to bypass the Senate and bureaucracy which he used to appoint Governor-Generals in a quasi-military government structure running parallel to the Senate in order to coordinate the Republic's sector defenses and industrial production
    5) Supreme Command Amendment & Judicial Command Amendment - named the chancellor as Supreme Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the Judiciary Forces of which the Jedi Order belonged to, essentially making Palpatine the head of the Jedi Order
    6) Regional Governance Decree - appointed regional and planetary governors for every sector and system, making the Governor-General system permanent, thus sidelining the Senate and creating what became the Moff system
As for the Senate, those who opposed Palpatine's power had either been secretly eliminated or marginalized to the point where they had no influence. The rest either agreed with Palpatine or saw the way the wind was blowing, not to mention when he made his announcement there were armed troops in the Senate Hall.
The citizens, like stated in the video, were just so tired of the war and the inefficiency of the Republic that they figured anything was better. Compare it to when Hitler took power in Germany largely people were fed up with the ineffectiveness of the Weimar Republic.

I think that most of the Senators living on Coruscant were more interested in keeping their cushy lives rather than serving their people. As the war continued, Palapatine continued to take more power and responsibility. while they had to just sit there and nod. All that mattered was what they wanted and enjoyed. Plus, many welcomed the end of the Jedi, who some likely saw as meddlers that stopped them from achieving their goals and continuing to enrich themselves. By the time the moffs were established, it was too late, and they were cast out or executed.

I mean yeah the jedi were kinda bad. I mean while palpating had the plan the Jedi were the ones who actually started the clone wars

Palpatine, “I love democracy. I love the Republic.”
ROTS, “I know they don’t trust you.”
Palpatine, “Nor the Jedi, nor the Senate, nor democracy for that matter.”

  • @duescaymania2940
    @duescaymania2940 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

He couldn’t be stopped because you can’t stop the future. He was the best force for the galaxy and wished to bring it back to full strength under a better regime! Palpating was the strength required for the galaxy to be in peace. Besides the republic couldn’t accomplish anything if they wanted. Glory to the empire, long live the emperor!

I think that you also forgot one important factor and that was that the Galactic Republic wasn't very liked. It was often seen as bureaucratic, inefficient, corrupt and rotten regime whose deficiencies led to the Separatist Crisis and the Clone Wars. So the people welcome ending of the its marasm and hoped for a new beginning, order and security which Palpatine promised.

Well, to a large degree he piggybacked off of the planning and preparations done by his predecessors going back nearly a thousand years. That's not to discount his own contributions to the Grand Plan of the Order of Sith Lords, but it is undeniable that he was the beneficiary of a near-millennia of planning and work by those before him from Bane onward.

Actually I would say that it’s a combination of factors. There’s the slow erosion of individual liberties under the guise of wartime powers, that time and again the majority of the Senate kept telling themselves was necessary.
Then there’s the military. Unlike the real world, the Republic didn’t have a standing military until the Clone Wars. There’s no traditions for the military to work with a civilian government.
There’s also the inefficient and inept system of the Republic. It’s so unwieldy that nobody can get anything done. An Emperor who can actually do something in a remotely reasonable timeframe is probably very appealing.
Then there’s the simple fact that, well voting doesn’t matter to the individual. One vote out of billions becomes almost irrelevant. Frankly it’s little more than a tick box.
Then we have tradition. The Republic has had dictators in the past. I believe that you’ve mentioned at least one example of a benevolent dictator Jedi who suspended the democratic process.
There’s also the lack of normal checks and balances. In most healthy democracies, the different branches of government provide the checks and balances to help counter such politics. The Republic doesn’t really appear to have such limitations.

Not really when you look at the numbers. Let's just say that Trump's popularity with the various organs of the government to allow such a thing to happen ranges from bad (~40%) to practically null (yeah... when your own intelligence services consider you an enemy asset...). Then add to the situation that he has become HATED, which is a literal death sentence in politics.

Still think something like a dice roll could have changed everything because im pretty sure not many knew that papa palpatine and sidus where 1 and the same not even his apprentices
Like what if count dooku was arguing with sidus over eliminating palpatine and ending the war. Sidus would say dont worry about him i got this.
Then dooku being who he is, sends assassins who would probably fail? Maybe or maybe not if they where to succeed what wouldve happened to the Republic and would it become a stalemate to end the war?

  • @slimshady9147

If something similar happened in the U.S, you’d have the extremist rioting depending on what side you’re on. Most everyday people would talk crap, but they wouldn’t interrupt their lives to protest a government and a leader who is creating industrial jobs to expand the military and providing multiple services that The U.S promised to their people but never delivered. Look at Communist China; citizens have decent living standards and have jobs and can create a business; they scapegoat problems on the Muslims and other minorities. What most people want is a stable government that can provide for them and not interfere with their everyday activities. I give the U.S 20 years at most before a civil war breaks out and a dictator rises to power.
