Good one, kind of shows the constant visual chaos of what a city is.
Thank you so much, I am very grateful to you and your research. ❤
it is a lot of work but worth it.
Great work as always. The 1:38 shot must be pretty close to right before Feb 26 1966 based on the streetcar still on that stretch of Bloor and the cars. I was trying to read the license plate on the car in the foreground as you had to switch plates every year before stickers were enacted.
Pretty sure the don brickworks was in the don valley just north of Danforth, west of broadview,
Thank-you again... Nicely done....
Glad you liked it.
I recall walking on the moving sidewalk back in the early 80's. Had no car. Drove a van for work though. Toronto had great public transportation back then. Went everywhere.
It did make the walk shorter when it was working, too bad they took it out.
Anyone know why they removed it?
@@travisazzopardi8024 it got too expensive to maintain it, plus they had to get the parts specially made.
I love your videos and it just makes it perfect with that song. Like I said, it makes me think of my mom & dad. RIP, I loved both of them and my mom died in March, I miss her so.
Sorry for your loss.
I grew up in old Toronto bloorcourt bloordale not far from some of the footage and I really like when I see your video coming into my feed ❤thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you for watching.
2:03 That’s about a 1965 Pontiac cab, looks new and the station wagon is about a 1964-65 .
I'm always amazed at how many streetcar tracks there were a century ago.
Thankyou for all the effort you put into your posts (yes, I know you enjoy doing it).
Some of them are still there just covered over, but you can see the buckling of the street.
Excellent point on the Streetcar Tracks total
A book I have, written in the 80's I think, had the pure physical mileage in around 700.
Sometimes it's a case of understanding what you are seeing. For instance Mt. Pleasant & St. Clair E., NE corner. There is a tiny green space, a park. Anyone would scratch their head, "why would you put a park there? That's not what it started out as. It was the turning loop for the original St Clair streetcar line that was ripped out in the 60's or 70's. It had been larger but Mt Pleasant has been widened.
@@foamer443 A lot of the streets have been widened.
Love it ! Well done ! Love the Peter Whitt streetcars 4:33, and horse & buggies in other photos.
All those streetcar-track builders worked so hard to build it, and now its all gone. ; (
The Old City Hall looked like a hideous eyesore when it was covered in grime 4:33 over the decades, but now that the stone is cleaned, and it looks so luxurious and artistic and classic and beautiful.
Photo at 5:18 had to be AFTER 01 June, 1961, because before that, CIBC didn't exist yet.
_The Imperial Bank of Canada_ merged with the _Canadian Bank of Commerce,_ and became CIBC on June 1, 1961
The photo of the Don Valley brickworks quarry is a gem to see!
Thank you for the info.
The Witt 2828, and I could be thoroughly wrong, I think is preserved either by the TTC and can be rented or at The Halton County Radial Railway Museum.
The Brickworks. The angle is NW to SE in order to get the CPR High Bridge in the background like that. With all the trees around now that would be a toughy to get.
I thought the same thing about Old City Hall from the old picture. Surprised it wasn't nicknamed Castle Blackstone back then. Lol
@@foamer443 Trees are good but sometimes they force me to change positions to get a good shot.
@@travisazzopardi8024 I have found that to be the case for a lot of the old buildings.
Great videos.
Thank you.
Amother great video. Thanks for showing the Junction. Thatwas one of my old stomping grounds.
You are welcome, thank you for watching.
Mine too! ❤
@@travisazzopardi8024Remember Mcbride's Cycle? It's a shame they're gone. Their buildings were beautiful too. Now it's a LCBO
Lol, scroll down to the next comment. I mentioned McBride's Cycle yesterday. Bought 3 bikes from John McBride there in the 80s.
Thanks again for another great video. Might that unidentified Richmond Street photo be of the (current) Hudson’s Bay/Sak’s 5th Avenue building with Richmond crossing Yonge in the distance? That distant building with the spires might be 4 Richmond East which currently has a Rexall pharmacy on the ground floor. Just a thought.
@@cwjonesII could be, I'm just not sure.
1:36 Judging by the cars, I would say 1962-63.
1:35 Bloor and Palmerston can be dated. I'm not a car guy but, the car in foreground appears to be a '64 model - noticeably larger tail lights. Licence plates at this time period were physically changed annually on/by Feb 28th. with alternating colours. The last year white on black was used was '63. The other plates appear to have white backgrounds. So this can be no later than the changeover period Jan/Feb '64. and if I'm wrong on the model year than a year earlier. One can just make out the marquee of the Madison Cinema (Capri/Bloor/Hot Docs) in the distance with Honest Ed's façade (right side) across from the Alhambra Cinema.
Thank you for that information.
Excellent as always!
Thank you.
Not to be a nit picker but the old 1918 picture of Keele and Dundas is incorrectly labeled. That view is from Dundas and Humberside looking north from just south of Annette where it meets Dupont. The large building on the right of Dundas no longer exists and it's an island between Dundas, Annette and Dupont. On another note, the building where McBride's Cycle (where I bought 3 motorcycles from John McBride in the 80s) on Dundas at Indian Grove was still being built in the 1922 picture. Apparently it was a bowling alley (at least on the second floor) before Percey McBride bought it. It's an LCBO now. Another cool video Neil.
I find that a lot of the pictures I use are incorrectly labelled I try to see if any of the buildings in the photos are still there to help me out with position of the original photographer, it is hard to figure out sometimes.
You do an amazing job. And this video in particular I’m very familiar with the junction, etc. ❤
@@elliearthur7863 thank you very much.
So many tracks all gone when TTC could use them today.
That is true.
