Yeah. Up until them just wrecking the multiverse and making it way too important than what it is AND the god awful montage that goes on for way too long... the movie at that point was pretty fun!
I think what kind made me feel disappointed was the fact that Gunn and a bunch of esteemed Hollywood people spoke about this movie as though it was the best thing to ever happen to Superhero movies only for it to turn out to be a very okay movie that doesn't really evolve, or contribute much to comic book movies and is riddled with ps2 cgi
@@M_k-zi3tn Gunn, King, all these people we respect for their amazing storytelling and characterwork saying this movie was the best thing ever was hilarious and really annoying lol. I think that James Gunn taking over DC essentially means that Kevin Fiege controls both marvel and DC. Hear me out. I don’t mean literally. I just mean in the sense that DCU has a way higher chance of being as good as the MCU now that it has essentially what is the apprentice if not still the right hand man of Kevin fiege. It’s a unique perspective that I have for sure. But it is entertaining to think about. Superman Legacy could be the “iron man 2008” that DC desperately needs.
Had a good time watching, had more emotional depth than transformers, so i had something to take with me. The last scene with his mom was really touching. It only got better after they meet batman so there is like 40 minutes of "wtf is going on"
Prediction: A year or two from now, when Marcus does another "Reviewing my Old Reviews" video, he will watch this and be utterly flabbergasted that he rated this movie a 7/10, changing it to a 4 or lower. (I can already picture him exclaiming *"WHAT WAS I ON?!?!"* )
I really want to read a book about what happened to this movie. It seems like they nail the Flash stuff but I wonder if it's just a bunch of re-writes and studio meddling that really weigh this thing down in the home stretch of production.
I managed to avoid all the trailers, and despite the bad CGI -- I overall liked it. I like the end part very much that is all fan service, but I thought it was well done. I also liked the Marvel trolling the movie did regarding multiverses.
I'd probably give it the same score as you. There are a lot of fun moments and effectively emotional moments in the film, but that CGI definitely needed some work (and the director stating it's because that's how Barry views things when using the speed force is not a good excuse) and the resolution to the third act conflict doesn't necessarily add up if you think too much about it, but I generally enjoyed the film regardless of those issues. I do wish we got more screentime of the Batmen featured in the trailers and other promotional material though.
Also, while it is valid to criticize some of the in-your-face-rubbery-cgi, i however found that having two ezra millers on screen in so many scenes was absolutely flawless. At least it looked flawless to me! I think people forget that they probably used a special effect for that too!

Incredibly agreeable review on all points. I had so much fun most of the movie, way more than I could’ve thought. But thanks to the climax and resolutions, I don’t know… it was curiously unsatisfying, All I can add is how much I enjoyed Sasha Calle as Supergirl. I’d love to see her reprise the role.
Finally someone is mentionning the origin story angle! I agree, it was a creative workaround to show the origin story in a fun way, and still informative enough for the newcomers. Also, I think the music score of the film was pretty good. I loved some of the themes in there.
apparently the director did an interview and explained the terrible plastic CG faces are supposed to look like that…. my immediate reaction to that was “okay buddy” like, maybe if the faces only looked bad in the vignettes around that time travel bubble barry makes id buy into it more, but theyre also peppered about throughout the rest of the movie soooooo
We really needed at least one or two more scenes to flesh out Super-girl's character, and fill the gap between going to see Zod and doing nothing, and then randomly showing back up to help out. Her bare bones back story and her tiny interactions with the protagonists and Zod only barely provide a superficial sense of who she is and what she's thinking. She's one of the few characters that we haven't seen in previous movies and don't already know fairly well. She's ultimately not that important to the story, and that's a bit of a shame too.
I actually like it and love the IMAX experience. The CGI babies are horrific and the climax sequence is crap, but most of the early Flash power felt immersive. This was the amusement park, popcorn movie. Even Guardians 3 and Spiderverse which I love so much better felt like it needed more or my brain & heart, this one was just enjoy the ride with a sprinkle of feels.
The fight scenery makes sense tho it’s where the army and Zod first met and normally superman is there to surrender but superman isn’t there so they attack

100% agree with this. The people in the end look like PS2 characters, as my friend put it. I even said it was a 7/10 when talking to my friends about it. I wish that they would have made a scene in Justice League about Barry’s parents to make it more believable. Also Ezra’s run…looks like he’s not even trying. Like an awkward jog Make him TRY!! Ezra’s awkwardness in the movie is kind of creepy. The humor was actually good though. I genuinely laughed at the roommate scene where they were arguing about actors in movies. Also laughed at “Who the fuck are you” because I genuinely did not expect Clooney to show up or Miller’s response. I also really enjoyed showing up to a movie and not knowing how it would end. Far and away the best part of the movie. Like it was unironically good and absolutely hilarious. More superhero movies need scenes of their main character saving terrible cgi babies and puppies from imminent death

Best review I’ve heard thusfar. It was refreshing to hear a take that wasn’t just “Bad CGI= Garbage Movie”
I thought the first two acts were really decent
big fax, up until they escape from the Siberian prison the movie was genuinely incredibly well written and the performances from everyone were great
I can't even understand why they'd say that with such conviction. They could've said they liked it but they said they LOVED it and it's quality was beyond compare.
@@oscarm4095 I find it funny that the movie Gunn made was better than the one he was also promoting.
I’d really like to see what you want the new DCU to be
James Gunn havin a bit of a laugh
It only got better after they meet batman so there is like 40 minutes of "wtf is going on"
That scene with the Mom got to me, man. Very relatable, to the point I was sobbing. Still a very flawed movie, but I could tell it had heart.
Prediction: A year or two from now, when Marcus does another "Reviewing my Old Reviews" video, he will watch this and be utterly flabbergasted that he rated this movie a 7/10, changing it to a 4 or lower. (I can already picture him exclaiming *"WHAT WAS I ON?!?!"* )
Or maybe he just enjoyed something you might have not?
I really want to read a book about what happened to this movie. It seems like they nail the Flash stuff but I wonder if it's just a bunch of re-writes and studio meddling that really weigh this thing down in the home stretch of production.
1000% its the late reshoots that had something to do with it
Didn't this movie get delayed by a year 😂
100% sure studios forced the director to add the end cameos so they could make more money.
The worst part is how good of a performance Ezra gives throughout
I managed to avoid all the trailers, and despite the bad CGI -- I overall liked it. I like the end part very much that is all fan service, but I thought it was well done. I also liked the Marvel trolling the movie did regarding multiverses.
the entire cgi budget went towards ezra's bail fees instead
I'd probably give it the same score as you. There are a lot of fun moments and effectively emotional moments in the film, but that CGI definitely needed some work (and the director stating it's because that's how Barry views things when using the speed force is not a good excuse) and the resolution to the third act conflict doesn't necessarily add up if you think too much about it, but I generally enjoyed the film regardless of those issues. I do wish we got more screentime of the Batmen featured in the trailers and other promotional material though.
7/10 is absolutely wild for this movie. The amount of times I laughed at something that was unironic was more than I can remember for any other movie.
Nah
Also, while it is valid to criticize some of the in-your-face-rubbery-cgi, i however found that having two ezra millers on screen in so many scenes was absolutely flawless. At least it looked flawless to me! I think people forget that they probably used a special effect for that too!
in some scenes yeah they're pretty well made, but like there are instances when one of the two Barrys are clearly not there
i think people are hating because ezra miller is in this movie

This shit was fun af. A lot better than i expected
I loved it. Eventhough CGI has left a lot to be desired, the action sequences had great choreography. The comedy is completely disarming. It kinda feels as if you are watching stoner version of Back To The Future. The emotionality of this story made me tear up in the end
Funny enough I asked my dad, a normal human being, what The Flash can do and he said that he can run fast

I loved some of the themes in there.
apparently the director did an interview and explained the terrible plastic CG faces are supposed to look like that….
my immediate reaction to that was “okay buddy”
like, maybe if the faces only looked bad in the vignettes around that time travel bubble barry makes id buy into it more, but theyre also peppered about throughout the rest of the movie soooooo
It was a really good movie. I had zero expectations and loved it.
May be a dumb fun movie but I appreciate the emotional moments and certain attention to details.
She's ultimately not that important to the story, and that's a bit of a shame too.
people with bad tummy issues are the real heroes here
I actually like it and love the IMAX experience.
Exactly
Flash made me laugh, ask myself wth is going on and also feel sad because of Barry's mom
The fight scenery makes sense tho it’s where the army and Zod first met and normally superman is there to surrender but superman isn’t there so they attack
I really enjoyed it. I'm kinda shocked that a movie with Michael Keaton's Batman isn't doing better but I genuinely had a lot of fun
This movie knows what it wants to be, movie that took 6 directors and countless scripts. What a nothing as pov, 7/10 is legitimately insane
And 8 writers
I will never not be confused as to why this was getting a bunch of pseudo-hype before it was released to the masses.
I just did a rewatch: It's better than people say it is, but it deserves its reputation. 7/10 is generous, and I'm glad you had fun with it - I believe I did too.
i was surprised at how genuinely funny the movie was, really was not expecting that
How Grant Gustin wasn’t considered for even a cameo still baffles me.
Honestly!
His cameo was actually cut from the final film alongside Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman, more villains from Batman '66, Marlon Brando as Jor-El, you get the idea
By far the best flash ever live action

The best part of the film for me was Sasha Calles Super-Girl, she was absolutely fantastic and I really wish she was in the film more, and if she isn’t the main Super-Girl going forward that will be the biggest waste of potential ever.

I feel like how much you enjoy this movie is directly proportional to how much you like Miller’s performance. I’ve never cared for them as the character until now, but the character work done with Barry really carried me through the film.
Anything that’s NOT directly about that character work is pretty lame though. Big WW84 vibes.

Thank god markie is finally getting vitamins, there's always an 80% chance of him being sick in his vids
That was amazing.
I remember after seeing the movie with my friends I made a comment about all the humans in the "chrono-bowl" looking like bad video game renders and was informed that this was apparently "intentional" in order to make the time travel scenes uncanny. I think that's probably the funniest excuse I've ever heard for cgi in a movie being terrible.
I mean that's not an excuse it makes alot of sense, the only cgi that is ACTUALLY bad in this movie is when Batfleck appears and the babies, the dog, and uh Sasha Calle's face when fighting zod
