Great tutorials, man. I've been learning a lot from them, but so far, maybe I missed it, I haven't seen much information on when to send your flex or MC to board, when taking over the helm role. What are the best times to initiate boarding? I assume when they have more than one person needing to bucket is an optimal moment, but what other scenarios are ideal to be sending in the troops? I'll rewatch your video on playing the helm in case it's in there, but any additional information would be great! I've had this game for almost a month now and I've already put in 300 hours, so I think I'm getting the hang of it. This game's an absolute blast and I thank you for your rock solid content. I know the video is over a year old now, but you did comment towards the end of the video that you do actually read all of the comments, so here's to hoping you can help define some situations where boarding is ideal. Thanks again!
In Galleon hourglass you should always send your flex (or MC) to go for a board when you have more people shooting than they do. So if you have your MC, Helm, and Flex up (3 people) and the enemy crew only had MC and Helm up (2 people) then you want to send your flex over to the other crew’s boat. The reason why is because if you send someone over, the other crew has to send 1 guy to watch you at all times. Meaning that they ONLY have 1 person shooting (their MC) And that 1 MC is not usually going to be able to put in enough lowerdeck holes that your bilge HAS to call someone down to help him. So look for when you have your flex up and 3 people shooting cannons, and the other crew only has 2 people shooting, and send someone over to their boat to push the advantage.
@@kaijoi8938 thanks a lot for your reply! A lot of my playing time has been spent solo, but I finally found a decent guild who said I was surprisingly good for having played for such a short time, but your videos are top-notch. I wasn't sure what to do, but the video gave some good tips. I just had the idea in my head, though, as I was getting ready to lay down and I thought that, what if, while someone is attempting to ram you, you drop anchor and do a 90° anchor turn to try and make them miss, raise anchor again as fast as possible right when the anchor hits the floor, and angle your broadside back towards them. Wouldn't they have to drop their anchor, too, otherwise they risk blowing right by us and into our cannon angle? As for how to aim a player from cannons: Their trajectory is the same as the chainshot. The spot where the chainshot hits seems to be around where their head is (from testing I did last night actually). As a result, if you somehow manage to land a chainshot on top of their deck, if you shoot a player out plus a smidge up in the vertical direction, then the player's feet will touch somewhere near where the chainshot lands.
Love the videos man! Got a few questions while I am here. -These role videos are great but as a main helm my biggest issue is how to give some the tldr run down on a random lfg server in an easy to understand way? -Out of curiosity why do you have flex go for lower, and MC for higher? MC is on cannons more so I would think they'd be doing lowers. Is it to make sure they are off cannons as much as possible? -Slightly unrelated but do you plan for any guides on how to fight smaller ships as Galleon?
Either a person knows how to play on an LFG or they don't. A good player won't need a TLDR case they just know what to do. And a bad player can't absorb all the information you give them / can't put it into practice. So you can give basic comms like: "if someone dies then I will resurrect them, you stay on cannons* Or something small like that. But if you're trying to teach them a role, then they're not going to be able to learn it in 10 minutes. You definitely could have MC hit lower decks. And in certain broadsides you can have everyone hitting tops or every hitting lowers. Especially in 1v1's, having your entire team spread lowers can 100% be better than hitting tops. However it's really up to you. It's just the way things are done just to make everyone's life easier, rather than needing to communicate who shoots what and such. But you can do whatever you want, but lowerdecks win games. So as long as SOMEONE is hitting lowers, you're good. How to fight smaller ships as a galleon? You're a bigger ship, just ram them. If you're opening up broad from max range as a galleon, *WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?* You have 4 cannons and a sloop has 1. You have 3 masts and a sloop has 1. You have 4 people and a sloop has 2. You can tank SO MUCH more pressure than a smaller ship can. So just ram them if they keep playing distance and don't let you get close. You have all the advantages. You'll automatically win if you can prevent them from running away, just full nose them so that you can get close. (that's 1 way to fight them)
Just started playing last night. We put the red reaper flag on ( I know- noob) and we were getting attacked by everyone 😂 we definitely have no idea what we’re doing but held our own in a few. Definitely sank ALOT last night. Thanks for the tips!
I know "Just Aim Lower" in the obvious answer, but where exactly does the lower deck start in terms of hitbox for cannon balls on a galleon? Knowing is a lot better than just aiming as low as possible and just assuming you are hitting the lower deck, and can provide a lot more confidence in the status of the enemy vessel.
Where the decoration cannons are on a galleon. I have a visual representation in my Main cannon video near the end. But it’s directly under the decoration cannons on a galleon.
so i got one question, is there a reason that most people tell me that the MC uses the first cannon from the front, but in the vid you play as flex and use this one? i learned it in the order MC/Bilge/Flex/Helm and i always thought it would make sense to keep Bilge and Flex closer to the stairs. hope you can clear up my confusion, thanks in advance :)
Yeah. In my video called: *How to Properly Manage Your Ship* I showcase the different roles and which cannon you’re supposed to be on. Yes, the cannon order goes MC/Bilge/Flex/Helm. However the reason why you see my on 1st cannon and not 3rd cannon is because those clips I showed, I was the MC. I’d didn’t have many flex clips to show, so I just put random clips as filler. But you’re right. You’re supposed to take 3rd cannon, not 1st as flex
Lol, this guy talking about not shooting the same spot on the ship and I'm just trying to hit the ship at all. xD I guess I'm going to be watching your other vids as well.
Hey there. Solo sloop just getting into sea of theives. Always loved how the PVP looked but could never understand it. All your videos have been very helpful to me and i might get into playing scrims soon. Thanks!
I hope that anyone that wants to learn how to pvp watches these videos. It doesn't matter if you're amazing at boarding or can hit any cannon shot. So long as all your crew are completely unorganized you will not win a single battle.
Amazing tuto ! One question : when I play Gally, I see a lot of a different set up where it is the main canon who is the 1st boarder and flex 2nd. Is it something you already experienced ? Is it better or worse than the roles you explain here ?
As he said in the video, when flex is boarding, MC pretty much takes his role when it comes to helping and repairing. So to avoid confusion, some people prefer to send MC first and keep flex on his role. I guess in a less coordinated lfg crew it can help when people stick to their roles as much as reasonably possible. As for advantages of sending flex 1st, idk and would also like to hear if anyone has some reasons behind it other than just preference.
@@ignis2137 The main reason sending flex is preferable is because it keeps MC on cannon for as long as possible. I think Kai mentioned it in the MC? But MC is a cannon bot, and should be on it for as much as possible. If Flex hits the board MC shouldn't need to go down to help. The only time me as a Helm sends MC is for a double board.
@@ignis2137 i think it's because the person who is more skilled in tdm is usually the flex player. and also like some already said if mc doesn't get off the cannons then they don't need to dial back in and keep spamming cannons with higher accuracy
In many crews, mc is the most experienced player, oftentimes at boarding too. This might explain why they send him first. Certainly in many official SOT discord crew, the flex role tends to be the spot left for anyone who’s not good at the other 3
Not a specific reason why you would send Flex over MC. However usually people will have their TDMer as the flex, so it's beneficial to have him ho board. But obviously some teams may have the MC as the PvP god, or even the bilge. It doesn't really matter who boards, as long as everyone knows WHO IS the main boarder, you'll be fine. The only thing I would say is that if you have MC go board, then flex and helm are on cannons that are right beside eachother, so they can both get knocked off their cannons due to 1 cannonball. So if you do have MC go for a board instead of flex, then have the flex switch to a different cannon in order to spread out your players and avoid getting double killed.
Could you do more with smaller ships? I think I speak for most by saying that I rarely ever play on galleons. Or at least make a kind of “translation” section or separate video so that we know what to do on each ship type. Like maybe a video called “mastering the sloop” or something like that and going over all of the big points of these types of videos. If that makes sense. Great video by the way, I’ve watched all of these videos and I love them, they have truly transformed my thinking process and gameplay.
Depends on the situation. But usually on sloop it's up to helm to repair the mast and such. Unless you're peeling off of a broad and you're trying to run away, you usually don't want to triple repair the masts because you have better things to do like shooting cannons, sniping, or bailing the boat.
Where do I find Galleon crews looking for recruits? I do mostly solo pvp, can never get my friends on enough to do big boat pvp. I don't play a ton so I'm really only level 77 guardians of fortune, but I feel like I fill any role of the ship well enough.
I always found people in the Sea of Thieves Official Discord to play with. Most people are pretty bad, but the crew that say things like: "1000+ hours, lsd/tsd, etc" are normally going to be better: discord.gg/seaofthieves
I see Flex as a Center Mid in Soccer. Man has to be able to play the whole field not just Bilge (Goalie), Cannon (Striker), or Helm (Coach/Sweeper since they help Bilge (Goalie) mainly while also making calls.
I think the idea of having having flex as main boarder is not necessarily the right way as they are needed most of the time. That's why I always send bilge to board first 🥶
I think it is not the smartest idea to send the bilge. You need three main things on the ship: one who steers it, one who shoots and one who keeps it alive. Flex is the support role here, doing the jobs which the others had to do if he didnt to assure they have as much time for their jobs. Still, when he goes out boarding, they can do the things he previously did. Through him boarding he applies pressure to the enemy and hie own crew can take their time for a quick mast raise or smth.
@@trollcrafterchen2297 bilge first boarder, helm is secondary boarder. Who needs a boat because you already ruin their mental if they know they died to classic helm board. Truly deviating
How about this, where can I find a good crew? I’ve surpassed who I normally play with and they refuse to improve, running from every fight and doing everything inefficiently, they’re chill and I love em, but I need a crew I can actually confidently sail with.
I always found people in the Sea of Thieves Official Discord to play with. Most people are pretty bad, but the crew that say things like: "1000+ hours, lsd/tsd, etc" are normally going to be better. discord.gg/seaofthieves
I quit the game because (arena obv but) all my teammates quit and when I go play with people and tell them that I'm the flex, they still fucking board every single time because no one understands the roles!
As a helm I do sometimes find it annoying whenever the flex asks if they can board. Half the times I end up agreeing 'cause boarding really excites them. We do mostly play for fun tho so it's usually no big deal Also if anyone of my crewmates happen to find this comment. You didn't hear it from me..
Where are the best places to find blastballs, chainshot, et cetera. Seemingly everyone we go up against has a near infinite supply. Also double gunning never seems to work like it does in people's videos maybe its just the highlights because only a small percentage of my double shots actually do the job otherwise it is two hit markers and two guns to reload for me while getting attacked by a sword.
Not sure about chains, but with curses, cannon rowboats found randomly on islands always have a least one curse ball. Other than that, just luck. You can also farm curses by boarding a skeleton ship and snatching the ball every time a skele loads the cannon
If you can't two shot it must be either hit reg issues or them healing or with blunder you being too far away and the spread pattern being bad. Do remember though that blunderbombs also do damage so use those.
Most people who have an infinite supply of throwables just mass bought them from the shipwright. And if they have a ton of curseballs, some people will go do skeleton fleets and farm the curseballs from them. However you don't need an infinite supply of cannonballs when you're fighting people. Outpost sups, merchant supplies, and shipwright supplies will yield you 300+ cannonballs and 150+ planks. So you don't NEED many supplies to do hourglass, just supply up they sink people and take their supplies.
Depends what your goal is. But disregarding that piece of information, doesn’t matter. Just join a team and start playing, LBH is not super competitive or anything cause most of the good teams left
Depends. Usually Helm watches boarders and flex is there to back him up incase the boarder makes it on. Or if flex is down below bucketing with bilge then it's up to Helm and MC to guard ladders.
Excellent video as always! I'm exited to see bilge next in line as that my role on the seas! If you like, you could use my povs as bilge on the scrims i post on my yt. They are not amassing but they are not terrible ether :)
This is normally a bad strategy to employ whenever you fight good crews. A good crew will pump you full of lowerdeck holes, so you want to have everyone reball belowdeck so that they can all take a courtesy bucket for the bilge. If you don't do this then you'll need to have your flex hold buckets for a good minute. Meaning that you have 1 less person topdeck for a long time. And a good crew will also just put those creates on top of your grate and make it impossible for you to bucket through the grate. This strategy can work against crews that aren't the best, but is not a good idea when fighting good teams.
@@kaijoi8938 then put the crate by map table so the timing is reduced but the benefit of having people run to bottom deck is still there, or if your comms are very good bilge should just call out when they need an extra bucket. I could also be completely wrong im a slooper
It’s up to you. However giving the courtesy bucket is way more powerful than the 4 seconds you’re saving by reballing from a crate topdeck. But you can do whatever strategy you want
Put any further questions you had in the comments section and I'll gladly answer them.

Two Questions:
1. If Helm is off does the Bilge call for Mc or Flex?

Thank you for these guides!
Just started playing last night. We put the red reaper flag on ( I know- noob) and we were getting attacked by everyone 😂 we definitely have no idea what we’re doing but held our own in a few. Definitely sank ALOT last night. Thanks for the tips!
LETS FUCKING GOOO ANOTHER KAIJOI VID!!!!
This is gold man. Thanks you for the video. You are a pirate legend ❤
Omg finally I’ve been wanting this forever
so i got one question, is there a reason that most people tell me that the MC uses the first cannon from the front, but in the vid you play as flex and use this one? i learned it in the order MC/Bilge/Flex/Helm and i always thought it would make sense to keep Bilge and Flex closer to the stairs. hope you can clear up my confusion, thanks in advance :)
Great video! Helpful and presented clearly as always.

@@badaruuuu no f*cking shot
I hope that anyone that wants to learn how to pvp watches these videos. It doesn't matter if you're amazing at boarding or can hit any cannon shot. So long as all your crew are completely unorganized you will not win a single battle.
Cant wait for the boarding tutorial in 2024🔥. Great video tho
Love the guides, when do you plan on dropping guide (4/4) the bilge?!
Never. Watch this instead: th-cam.com/video/JqzQl_FhYzM/w-d-xo.html
These have helped me SO much man! Much deserved sub
Are u going to do a video that explain boarding tricks like you said pixel board or funny board?
Will you be doing a solo guide like these when your done with the gally roles?
Could you do more with smaller ships? I think I speak for most by saying that I rarely ever play on galleons. Or at least make a kind of “translation” section or separate video so that we know what to do on each ship type. Like maybe a video called “mastering the sloop” or something like that and going over all of the big points of these types of videos. If that makes sense. Great video by the way, I’ve watched all of these videos and I love them, they have truly transformed my thinking process and gameplay.
spark notes is flex goes for boards and act as a secondary cannon hitting lowers and whenever another role needs help with something that's your job
How many planks should you put on mast for gally and brig I feel like it should be 2 but on sloop you should always have 3
Depends on the situation. But usually on sloop it's up to helm to repair the mast and such. Unless you're peeling off of a broad and you're trying to run away, you usually don't want to triple repair the masts because you have better things to do like shooting cannons, sniping, or bailing the boat.
Bucketting through the grate corner like you do is better than the middle because they put storage crates there to force backsplash
I am always hyped when you upload a new video on shiproles

What do I do about a flex that boards way too much. Many times not even saying he will leave.
I can only chew him out so many times.
what's a pixel jump and playing captains?
Where do I find Galleon crews looking for recruits?
I do mostly solo pvp, can never get my friends on enough to do big boat pvp.
I don't play a ton so I'm really only level 77 guardians of fortune, but I feel like I fill any role of the ship well enough.
I always found people in the Sea of Thieves Official Discord to play with. Most people are pretty bad, but the crew that say things like: "1000+ hours, lsd/tsd, etc" are normally going to be better: discord.gg/seaofthieves
man that was a lot of weeks
I have like 1.1k hours flexing and this video is perfect for anyone new
In a years time from now there will be a bilge tutorial
I see Flex as a Center Mid in Soccer. Man has to be able to play the whole field not just Bilge (Goalie), Cannon (Striker), or Helm (Coach/Sweeper since they help Bilge (Goalie) mainly while also making calls.
What song is at the start?
I've played alot of sot but need to learn pvp
love your vids
Hello, can you do a main bucket role 4/4 please ? 🥺🙏
I’ve surpassed who I normally play with and they refuse to improve, running from every fight and doing everything inefficiently, they’re chill and I love em, but I need a crew I can actually confidently sail with.

looking forward to the bilge video. Really love the series! (also yes, Liger's content is top notch too!)
We do mostly play for fun tho so it's usually no big deal
Also if anyone of my crewmates happen to find this comment.
Is it better to join an LBH crew or make your own?
Depends what your goal is. But disregarding that piece of information, doesn’t matter. Just join a team and start playing, LBH is not super competitive or anything cause most of the good teams left
great video, keep it up
me patiently waiting for the bilge guide.
Take bucket and make water go away
I feel so seen with my random reddit comment, lol. Just trying to spread your tips to build future legends.
Is it the flex job to guard for boarders?
Always have a storage crate on top deck and get used to using it
This is normally a bad strategy to employ whenever you fight good crews.
