    Precision approach radar (PAR) is a type of radar guidance system designed to provide lateral and vertical guidance to an aircraft pilot for landing, until the landing threshold is reached. Precision approach radars are most frequently used at military air traffic control facilities. Controllers monitoring the PAR displays observe each aircraft's position and issue instructions to the pilot that keep the aircraft on centreline and glidepath during final approach. After the aircraft reaches the decision height (DH), further guidance is advisory only. The overall concept is known as ground-controlled approach (GCA), and this name was also used to refer to the radar systems in the early days of its development.

    Thank you for that, nicely flown. Great to practice PAR so you know if you ever really needed it you'd have no problems. I used to regularly request PAR into what was then RAF Manston in Kent.

    Is there a document which describes the procedure and phraseology? We don't have such opportunities in Czech republic, so I am interested in how exactly it works :)

    Nice quality video/audio of the PAR, did you pre book with wittering and if so, were they ok about it. or did you just call them en route?

      Hey Andy, thanks! I rang them just before departing to confirm they could accommodate. They had NOTAMed they welcomed traffic that day.

      @@jibeneyto91 Did they charge you or need to see insurance? im trying to book a PAR at waddington and they just have no process for civvy aircraft.

    We learned this at Army ATC school in the 90s at Fort Rucker, AL. Only difference is we gave actual heading corrections. I don't understand the "right of center line correct it nicely.". I understand what it means but is that what the controller is saying?

      I think he's saying "correcting nicely", as in, the tendency is to get back on track. It's not an instruction.

      It didn't cost me anything at all! I was making the controllers there a favour by providing them a target to practice with.
