    If you're looking for the perfect material to make low-cost and lightweight props for your films, haunts, or cosplay creations, it's hard to beat styrofoam.
    In Part 1 of his 2-part course series, Martin teaches you how to transfer your prop design onto a block of styrofoam, carve it down to the primary and secondary forms, and then use a rotary tool and a heat gun to begin the detailing process.

    Did you guys already make a blinking eyes tutorial without using a machine mechanism? Thinking more puppet like.

    Bought Lazzarini's mechanical DVD years ago. Unfortunately styrofoam prices have soared and small budgets can't absorb the cost.

    What kind of base(hardener) and what kind of paints are usually used for sculptures like this?

    • @StanWinstonSchool
      @StanWinstonSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For hard coating: 2-part (simple A & B) urethane casting resin. Make sure it is casting resin because urethane will not eat up the foam when you're doing hard coating.
      For painting: acrylic paints, because it will be hung on the wall. - Adrienn

      @@StanWinstonSchool and if its to be exposed outdoors (heat/cold, moist..)? Always acrylic no matter what or sometimes lacquer(not sure the name is right but the same colors used to paint cars) is needed ?

    I love this kind of thing, & I'd love to work with styrofoam, but the problem I always encounter with these videos:
    WHERE TO BY THOSE BLOCKS OF STYROFOAM!?!?
    You say it's an inexpensive material to work with, but you don't say where to get it.
    Everywhere I've looked is too expensive!
    So I must be looking in all the wrong places, & you have to know the right people to get it for cheap.
    Share connections please!

    • @ShdwTrcr
      @ShdwTrcr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like how big is that block you’re using?
      In the link you have, a 6”x4’x8’ block is $125, which is only 16ft squared, which would be a 2.5’x2.5’ block;
      What your using is probably 2x2x3, maybe bigger; how much did that cost?

    • @StanWinstonSchool
      @StanWinstonSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShdwTrcr Hi! Our teacher Tim Martin got back to me with the following info:
      "The supplier I purchased from is Atlas Foam in Sylmar, California. You will need to search online to see who supplies block expanded polystyrene, aka Styrofoam, in your local area. The size of the Styrofoam block you buy will depend on what size prop you want to make. You'll have to research pricing with your local suppliers." - Balázs
