I remember watching these movies with my dear departed step-father. Thank you for taking me back to a more innocent time.
I can tell you....the middle 40s was not a good time. Greetings from Germany.
And I thought the She-,Hulk movie just recently came out.
Did you see the broadcast on TV in 1945?

Everything time you watch , he is with with his coffee and snacks in hand yes
Old era never get old.
Big fan of Basil Rathbone❤
Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce the best Sherlock Holmes duo imo. I loved all their movies in the series. Blessings to them for entertaining us .R.I.P. 💙
Jeremy Brett was amazing. Basil is number one.
The best duo.....? Definitely. Classic stuff.
I would agree with you although i would also argue that each generation has its own best actor who played sherlock like jeremy brett in the 80s.
What I've always disliked about this duo is the way that they portray Dr. Watson as being a bumbling, stumbling, trusting, childlike fool! As the story goes, he was a doctor in the army. You don't graduate from med school and get commissioned into the army by being a complete idiot!
@@juleserwinermac6497 It is true in what you are saying, it's just my preference at play.
Nigel bruce and BASIL RATHBONE are the only actors to play these parts, no one can replace them , born of an age where talent reigned
❤have watched n read Sherlock ever since I was 9 years old n STILL LOVE THEM ALLL!! SO glad they are still going for future generations!!
Too much for a nine year old kid. Sherlock Holmes
Does your username imply that you were born in 1860?
This color really does add a deeper dimension to the movie. I used to watch these episodes late at night, sneaking down to the tv in the living room, with the sound turned down almost all the way so as not to get into trouble for being up so late. Looking back, I know I wasn't getting away with anything.
Same here :-), greetz from Konstanz/Germany to You.
I prefer the original b&w there was a depth to it, and artistry in the shadows and the silvery light...
Idem😂😂😂
I really liked this version of Holmes. He is not eccentric, he is just a very clever human being :)
And Henry Daniell, was the best Moriarty. He was so cold blooded & creepy looking.
In this version Dr. Watson makes up for any want of stupidity .
Watson is a lovely character. Loyal, honest, proper and brave. His simplicity becomes him.
I love these Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce "Sherlock Holmes" movies, both black and white and colorized, equally well. Such superb acting!
These used to draaaaaagggggggg on Sunday afternoons. But now, in colour, it's a gem. Very well paced. Good, efficient direction, keeping the focus on the plot. Watson is the highlight
I used to love watching this film series as a kid. I was shocked to learn a few years later that Basil Rathbone often played the villain : )
Not often at all
Wow! - the picture quality is stunning! Congratulations to everybody concerned in making this possible as it's so clear as if was shot recently :)
One thing that you are almost always guaranteed in a colorized movie is that you’re going to see a high-quality print of the film. I read once that it is necessary to have the finest print in order to colorized a movie.
They have software that recolors damaged pixels.@@JohnBernardon-py7wf
Great to see these in color . These are less dark. But the woman in green never were green , not once.
Wow. I've seen these movies a hundred times, but never colorized. Can't wait to watch it. Looks really amazing, so far. Tysm, for the upload!! 💕💕
.
This is a film that I haven't watched before. A really excellent Sherlock Holmes mystery. Thanks for the upload.
In the books , Dr Watson is an intelligent man , in some of the old movies he is the comedy relief .
But that is soo sweet xD
Yes it does annoy me he is such a pompous buffoon in these movies. Holmes wouldn't have put up with him for long if he was that foolish! Basil is wonderful though
Rathbone and Bruce - the original dynamic duo. Many thanx for sharing...
Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are the best... I've seen Robert Downey and Judd Law as well recently, but I do love old movies, and BR & NB are "tops". Thank you!!
Jeremy Brett and David Burke, and later Edward Hardwicke. But I preferred Burke.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you for this colourization makes the film look 50 years younger superb bravo
I love the fact that I can choose the original audio track, even as a German!!! Thx so much !!
Hey, someone forgot to tell the guy doing the color that Hilary was supposed to be wearing GREEN.
Its now part of the unsolved mystery...😂😂😂
Do you know, I noticed that too, but I forgot 0:37 that this is a colorized movie. I just thought that maybe address they did or something. Hot stuff.
I Just thought that her dress faded or something. Hot stuff
Yeah, but she looked just fine in black!
They also used completely different words on the captions!! Weird!!l
Thank you for adding 4 audio dubs for the movie!
... the acting is unmatched!
Respect!
The trance inductions (particularly Lydia's full final flower on the water one) are beautifully done. Genuinely hypnotic patterns of language, leading and pacing, gentle tone, gentle touch, use of engaging suggestion & guided verbal/mental magery... and visually for Holmes and the audience, the flower providing a circling focus of attention amongst scintillating light on on the swirling water. Not to mention the soft music. Really quite brilliant!
@@sodium9920 Pfui, wie u nglaublich ordinäre Gassensprache !! 😢😢😢
1:03:10 He is writing without looking? I wonder how he can keep his lines straight.
@@landang7906 .....who said it was legible! 😁
Si...yo casi ma duermo
Yes, I think that abomination "Get Out" copied that for their overblown movie.
Basil Rathbone has always been the personification of Holmes , in my eyes anyway .
Yes , if the real Holmes had a meathead Dr. Watson to help him .
Indubitabley. There is no other.
I love Sherlock Holmes and Basil Rathbone who was brilliant!
i knew the actor Colin Hunter who play the constable. he was a delightful gentleman.
I watch these "old time" movies and realize this film was released a mere ten years before I was born.
I have watched several colorized films this is exeptional must be a new process.
Glad to have such good feedback on the colorizing ; )
Were people really this classy & stylish back then? If so we've definitely gone backwards
Colorization not a benefit IMHO! But is a good effort! Keeps getting better.
Seeing Hillary Brooke so much in these movies, I keep expecting to see Abbot and Costello walk onto one of the scenes.
With out these original actors, I don't know. Great give and take from both actors.
Was für eine phantastische Bildbearbeitung! Vielen Dank.
Just come accross this, thank you for bringing it to TH-cam for us all to enjoy again, thank you 😊
Magnifique ces vieux films restaurés et colorisés!
At 58:01 she tells him the sedative is "Cannabis Japonica". That's Japanese Marijuana extract. It was legal in Japan before WW2. Cannabis Indica extract was used in prescription drugs here in the USA before 1937. Marijuana THC extract was available in the USA in tincture form in the 1800's. Used properly as medicine, small doses of Marijuana THC were helpful. When people started to misuse it, then they made it illegal.
Isn't it CBD cream? That's what I use.
Basil Rathbone & nigel bruce best portrayal of Homes and Dr.Watson. just natural.
Thanks for uploading!
Great work, colorizing this film!! Thank you very much.😃😃
@DressedForDrowning Thank you!!
Just in case you didn't know, i you check out the description box in a B&W movie, if we have the colorized available, you will find the link to it. Same the other way around.
This way you can choose, B&W, color or watch both!

This list is not exhaustive. however, these are some of the
many actors who have played Sherlock Holmes on stage,
screen, radio and TV adaptations.
Thank you for posting this list.
The subtitles are HILARIOUS. Sometimes there's only the vaguest connection to what actually is said.
EG: "...A very handsome woman. Not born to the purple but giving an excellent imitation" becomes: "...A very beautiful woman. Not a real blonde but giving an excellent imitation."
Basil Rathbone one the best Sherlock Holmes. Nigel Bruce the total opposite of Dr Watson depicted in the books. Saying that he was a very entertaining Watson.
Looks good in colour. Should colorise more of these movies, around 80 years old and IMO they have stood the test of time.
The subtitles are mental but I love Sherlock Holmes

Basil & Nigel. Sounds like a dismal British comedy team. Glad they stuck to detective work. The color looks promising. Can't wait to see this one, especially to check out the woman in green. Should be fun. Cheerio!
This is an amazing film. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
what a wonderful film.. thank you!

I don't understand why they made Waston such a bumbling fool. He is a doctor for goodness sakes!
Lovable bumbling idiot was a popular trope at that time
i read somewhere that it was add levity to a fatigued and wartime England.
That makes sense. Watson was a military man. He would not be as portrayed.

Basil Rathbone is the GOAT

What would cinema be without such talented artists, so many duo's , Laurel & Hardy , Abbott & Costello, Stooges, Marx Brothers, the list is endless. Y.U.🙏
Without them we have today's woke diversity garbage with black Vikings and English nobles from the 16th century and so on...

Back when England was English through and through. ....sane and safe times for its citizens. Much better times. Wish I could travel back in time and stay there.
For anyone not sure of this really being possible: they mentioned driving and the repetitive white line of the highway markers; going by in consecutive time also having hypnotics effect on drivers of cars; know as white line fever.
The music played on the radio while driving, and the commercials and comments from the radio speakers to buy a product or consider a viewpoint: all play a roll when you drive a car.
These are the characters I enjoy. The director story line and camera
Watching very old film is like going back in time
great! but one issue: Doyle never wrote such an episode.
This movie was portrayed as happening in the 1940s whereas Sherlock Holmes was a character that lived with hackney coaches in 1900.
