BR narrated the wind and the willows disney animated movie. Also there is a version of Tchaikovsky peter and the wolf by him. Unrelated I also have a CD of Patrick Stewart doing it as well. Both are great.
This is a wonderful 😊 classical movie.. seen it several times.. there should have been more ole England movies like this made, England has the old creepy graveyards, streets and cottages of stones that's always made a great setting for foggy moonlit spooky movies..
You are so right Ma'am. I never have been to England, however I have seen many movies set in England, and the scenery always makes those movies more interesting and spooky. When I was stationed in Germany, I would go out on walks, just after midnight, on very foggy nights and while on lonely cobbled lanes, I would stop to listen to the moisture dripping from the trees and think about old English movies I saw as a kid, and a chill would run up and down my spine. Those walks would have been less dramatic if not for those movies I enjoyed as a child.
Of course, Dame Agatha Christie followed the example of Holmes & Watson in her mystery protagonists Hercule Poirot and Dr Arthur Hastings, as an "homage" to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Tge only aspect of these wonde4ful films is that Dr. Watson was played for comedy relief, often as a buffoon. He was an intelligent, articulate, loyal companion. There was none of the buffoon about him.
Old version of Sherlock holmes actor is much better than remake of BBC or modern movie version. Sidney Paget draw is should be standar is what is Sherlock holmes should look like.
It's a somewhat barren area of usually rocky, higher ground.. where only harsh plants and wind fighting trees grow. Not easy to cultivate and grazed by sturdy horses and sheep. This film features DARTMOOR, in Devon, in the UK. Cheers.. Liam Dale
This is the worst adaptation of the hound of the baskervilles not because of the acting so much as the writing and the casting. Mortimer is supposed to be young the guy playing him looks like he is 65. The way the dialog is presented strays quite far from the source material as well.
I had seen this movie many times but never heard the last line from Holmes where he said, "Oh Watson, the needle." I would assume Watson provided him with opium for an injection. I wonder if that's normally edited out? This was an excellent print of the film.
Thank you, Great British Classic Film and TV.
This is the sharpest and most clear copy of "Hound of the Baskervilles" on TH-cam.
New subber here.
Glad you found it.. yes I uprezzed.. and have further work to do. Lotta fun restoring oldies. Shame it can't be done for me! Cheers.. Liam Dale
@GREATBRITISHCLASSICFILMANDTV Ha, ha . . . Clever, Mr. Liam.
I absolutely hear you and agree!
my favourite movie with my favourite Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and favourite Doctor Watson (Nigel Bruce), thank you so much
Rathbone, not Radcliff
@@uraniumu242😂😂😂
@@uraniumu242 yes, you are right, I shouldn't write things when I asleep.
Who wouldn't love an audiobook reading by Basil Rathbone!

Such an excellent name. BASIL RATHBONE hehe
Thank you most kindly for this classic film of excellent visual and audio quality! 🌟
Great classic I still watch today 40 years later.
I subscribe 😊
One of my favorites…wow…what great resolution/quality film…thanks!
Zanuck created a work of art. This is not editted for TV, so it's just the best. I always thought this was made in Britain, wonderful.
I am a great fan of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce…perfect pairing…really, really good stuff!
This is a favorite 😍 🤗. Thank you for uploading this ✨️🥂
Wonderful as always , this is a fine Sherlock Holmes ... I love these Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories. Merry Christmas everyone ~ Blessings . 🇺🇸 🙏🏻
I have every episode of Sherlock Holmes, but this is one of my favorites.
Yes thanks for Great British Classics. Hammer Sudios made a version of this
I just came upon your channel and I absolutely love it! I love the no interruptions.
Sir Henry is Robin Hood !
Love this one, too. One of the best adaptations of the book.
New subscriber! Long live British films!❤💚❤💚❤💚
5:57 Sherlock Holmes is Basil Rathbone and dr Watson is Nigel Bruce. Nobody comes near.
Basil Rathbone is THE Sherlock Holmes.
This looks fantastic.
Subscribed.
Thank you. Don’t recall seeing this one !
Holmes never used heroin:his drug of choice was cocaine. Which, in this era, was quite common.
Cept.. 1.. this is a MOVIE not a documentary.. and 2.. Holmes isn't real! lol
Yeah, right, Holmes would not like a speed-ball, at all?😂
seven, seven per cent.
7 Percent Solution was a fun book to read.
And in the books Watson wasn’t a bumbling halfwit.
EXCELLENT COSTUMING.
This is a wonderful 😊 classical movie.. seen it several times.. there should have been more ole England movies like this made, England has the old creepy graveyards, streets and cottages of stones that's always made a great setting for foggy moonlit spooky movies..
Couldn't agree more! All the best.. Liam Dale

Ive read the book recently its a hell of a read!
"AHOOOO...". Don't worry, it's just the wind.

interesting to see Nigel Bruce playing Dr. Watson before he really became Dr. Watson.
basil rathbone and peter cushing and christopher lee, the actors triad
Jeremy Brett is my favorite.
@@uraniumu242absolutely
He turned him into Sherlock. Amazing
Hammersmith Studios ???
Basil.
Nigel.
Lionel.
This is definitely a British film lol

59:00 Sir Henry is a class act.

Good Film 🍿 😊
The very end where Holmes says "Watson, the needle" refers to the fact that Holmes would take an injection of a 7% solution of cocaine to relax.
Don't go out on the moor when the moon is full.
" Nice doggy, nice....."
Why are all the plants dead ?
Freshen up !

What is a moor ??

It’s like a bog, a swampy wetland
Ilkley moor is one of the most famous in England. Beautiful blue Bess and heather but no place for man or beast inthe winter.
Don't go out on the moor when the moon is full.
Is this the first time that Holmes encounters his nemesis Dr. Mortimer?
Why was Basil credited third?
Is this film early in his career as Sherlock?
Perhaps the first ?
@@NineInchTyrone Seems possible
❤
I never understood the popularity of this one because Holmes is hardly in it 😕
Great work, But they changed some plots which isn't right.
I'll tell you wuut, the scareryest thing was the Doctor. 😅 Don't get me wrong.I love the movie😊
They all go to bed 🛏️ as the bad guy is Running away? 😂
Great movie but the Ending could be Better
I just want to paint Basil Rathbone . i n the book the hound turns on the murderer.
Yes he did use herion and coke
Sherlock Holmes is English movie masterpiece its a perfect show everyone the best cast of actors
Why are people saying holmes used drugs
because its true - cocaine and morphine
I used to love these so much…but the Jeremy Brett (RIP) Holmes made these a joke to the point they are unwatchable.
Oh please
Sherlock is a made up character not real.
Meh, another adaptation where Wtson is a bumbling bufoon 😐
picture not good at all. Makeup is not intended to be seen to such a degree as this, and the overall contrast is overwhelming. No thanks.
Actually its not a bad print.. but I can't please all. 135,000 views.. so.. your limited comment is of no consequence! Move on! :-)

great movie,,,moriarti was in disguise again i see,,,at the very end holmes wanted his fix from watson the heroine pusher??
