Im glad to see the actual roots of budo being taken care of so intensely. Sadly, many aikido-teachers and aikikai disregard the fundamental relation of aikido to bushido and see it as unimportant for modern aikido. Yet, in my opinion it is an invaluable part of the whole picture, which helps us wrapping our minds around the philosophy of aikido.
So, thank you for hosting Antony on your channel and thanks to you too Antony for preserving these treasures.

Wait a minute, wait a minute......wait a darn minute!!!! Antony....you mean to tell me all those Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and Sho Kosugi movies were NOT historical documentaries??? And that they did not accurately portray martial arts, Japanese or Ninja culture accurately? Well, good sir, I am shocked. SHOCKED! Shocked....I say! How dare you tarnish the good, wholesome, honest name of Hollywood! Now good day to you sir. I said good day sir! lol

Just FYI - I bought Kindle versions of True Path of the Ninja and The Secret Traditions of the Shinobi and will move on to the others. I'm reading your books in the order of publication.

I have an even stricter theory than yours about the ninja. I arrive to the conclusion that the people that we call "ninjas" today, were not nothing more than poor peasants that just did guerilla warfare against larger armies just like ANY OTHER GUERILLA army in history, whether these were american "Patriots" , greek "thief" bands, contras, taliban etc.
The supposed "ninjas", never had a special system of guerilla warfare (and unarmed combat of course) or organized method for it, at least nothing special in comparison with the above mentioned groups. In essence, they just did things by experience, passed knowledge by word of mouth and once in a while someone wrote something of trivial importance to a "daybook" that modern enthusiasts interpereted as a "ninja" guide.
Most cultures had similar guides with more elaborate descriptions about war. Today's "ninjas" desperate for validation, just searched japanese history, found a group that did not call them selves "ninjas" (their enemies did not call them that either) and just wishfully said "these were the ninjas we were speaking for!". In essence, they could actually apply the same term to whatever other group they would like, as long as they were japanese. The documents themselves just talk about "spies" "roufians" and the like, again terms that we could find in historical documents of many other cultures. The difference is , unlike the ninja con men of today, there are no martial schools today claiming for example that "we teach the unarmed combat and guerilla methods of the Byzantine Akritai" and proceed to dress in byzantine clothes to practice it. It is all a myth.

@D'lish Donut were they ninjas though, as WE mean them? Or just some poor bastards that fought with spears and bear no resemblance AT ALL to the popular image of the ninja?

I guess everything's not getting respected especially this channel when they say Aikido doesn't work so all martial arts suck in that case you got to read the book to understand why really means to be a great martial artist well I think everything's all f***** up as it is you know. Go get some BJJ and go join MMA school and then you feel more like a martial artist
