    Honestly in my experience I really wouldn't recommend wearing a knee brace with metal rods inside of it especially having a meniscus tear and arthritis surgery, because instead of it helping you it actually does the exact opposite due to the swelling on your knee, but if you insist on wearing a knee brace you can either wait to your swelling goes down a little bit or buy another knee brace (with no metal rods inside of it) that's a little bit bigger than usual your size until you're nearly pain-free.

    Hi Dr. Tang which brace is best for running long distances? 1/2 marathons or marathons. I don't have much pain but sometimes I feel pain below the patella but slightly on the inward area of legs/ knees. 7 or 8 o'clock on right knee, 4 or 5 o'clock on left. Possibly from a slight rotation. Just looking for added protection when running. Thank you. Excellent video! Graphs were great.

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically I dont really like recommending knee braces for runners because it tends to be very hot and the brace ends up moving around. Knee braces to address that particular problem is the special variation of having a open-back knee brace.
      If you are having pain in your knees , especially in different locations of your knee, it would be best to follow up with your local physical therapist for proper evaluation to have a more long term fix. In my own experience with patients, typically scenarios similar to what you describe relates more to running mechanics? This is a guess, not advice.

      @@ForTeamTang Thank you. I have addressed it years back with my doctor. I have invested in high quality running shoes that help with keeping my foot straight to help prevent any future problems from occurring. Strength training on weaker muscles as well, for a proper gate. I was skeptical on getting a brace for running as I was concerned with it moving around. For shorter runs or exercising though I will look into that type of brace. Again thanks for the video, It was very informative. I liked that you used products that are found at local retailers as opposed to online items. Thanks again. Be blessed.

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Erik, in general squatting correctly will not cause over stress on the knees. That is exactly what the knee is designed for. If you are deadset trying to prevent stress on the knee, then essentially you are asking me which brace will limit the motion as much as possible. In which case, either a wrap around knee brace or hinge brace would be ideal for that purpose.
      Something like these:
      Knee Wrap Around brace ( Good value)
      amzn.to/2Z9XUTO
      Shock Doctor Hinged Knee brace ( Premium Hinged Brace)

      I want to know if it will help improve my right knee problem by wearing a knee sleeve or brace all day long, or would it make my situation worse coz it will cause my right knee to be dependent on such external support?

    Hellow doc michael, i have a surgery from a patellar tendon rupture 3 years ago, and i want to engage in physical activities again like play basketball, what type of knee support do u recommend to me?? Your reply is very much appreciated doc, thank u in advance

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope that if you had tendon rupture 3 years ago that you would have gone through some rehabilitation to get you back up to speed.
      If i were in a similar situation, I would use a wrap around knee brace and eventually not use anything at all.
      But if you have not been properly evaluated, it would be ideal to have yourself checked out than just asking me. I can only do so much through a description. Perhaps in the future, I may offer a online consultation , but as of right now i do not.

I'm having a burning sensation with my peroneal brevis when I ride my horse. What brace should I use? Or should I use both?

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  ปีที่แล้ว

      Burning sensation is typically in reference to a nerve pathology. It is unlikely a brace would really make a difference in a case like this. It would likely be a better idea to have it properly screened by a medical professional to evaluate the underlying cause of your discomfort

    Hi Dr. Tang - Thanks for making this highly informative video. I am in the latest sixties and have been playing competitive basketball but stop recently. Although I have never suffered severe knee injuries, I do have a condition known as the "loose knee cap" according to my osteopathic physician. Current days, I have to be careful about my knee when using the elliptical, stationary cycle, or exercises that require stress on knees like squatting or lifting weights. I wonder which type of knee braces would help me most. Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Hey doc
    I had a minor knee muscle injury two weeks ago, after 10 days of bed rest I'm back on my foot...which one should i use if i want to restart my gym.
    P.s. no ligament was damaged in the injury it was a jerk due to landing on one foot after a high jump, the swelling is gone now but i feel a lil pain when i walk sometimes.
    Please recommend what to use
    Thankyou 😊

      If it is healing, might not be necessary for a brace. But it would best to follow up with your local medical professional to give you more specifics.

    Dr. Tang, Thank you so much for your being helpful.
    I have an issue that my right knee is hard to exert power to climb two flights of staircase in one stride, while my left knee is able to do that without difficulty at all. My right knee has no any other issue, no pain etc in my daily life. Even my orthopedist cannot give an answer to it.
    I want to know if it will help improve my right knee problem by wearing a knee sleeve or brace all day long, or would it make my situation worse coz my right knee will probably become dependent on such external support over time?
    If wearing knee sleeve/brace all day long can help, what brace/sleeve can do?

      To answer your question whether or not wearing a brace is helpful or not, it is unliklely that i can give you a accurate answer without formally evaluating you. What I can say is that not all issues are related to a joint structure. Some times its the way some one moves that gives them problem. For example, think about when some one is running, and instead of landing the midfoot , the impact happens on the heel. A scenario like this can cause pain the foot , knee, ankle, or back. And in a scenario like this, even if you get an XRAY , it is very unlikely something would look different.
      It probably would be best to get yourself properly evaluated by some one local who understands both anatomy and movement like a physical therapist. This is by no means is to say that the orthopedist is not knowledgeable, but their knowledge may not be specific enough to address potential movement related problems. It would be like asking a car mechanic what is the best way to drive fast. Although they may know everything about how the car is made and operates the best, that does not mean they are specialized in driving the car very fast like a racer would be.

    Yes, my torn meniscus did happen because of a fall. Under dubious circumstances. I did not have insurance at the time so I could not afford the surgery so it had to heal "naturally". Which is crap. So I still have pain sometimes...well...alot, but honestly, I prefer the compression and stability of a hinged brace. I really don't have any problem with it. I saw where u had a red X by that one, so I guess my question is, am I doing further damage using the hinged brace?

    Dr Tang I want to know which brace is best for me. I have medial meniscus tear grade II (right knee) in my MRI report and I have to go for physical course which includes 5 km run, drill and lots of standing duties. So please guide me which brace is best for me for this type of activities by which I can save my knee.

    What brace do you recommend to prevent hyperextension? I'm not over active but normal daily walking and golfing.

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are not really a ton braces that prevent hyperextension. Only ones are hard braces or hinged brace (amzn.to/3gDaeDY), though that probably would be over kill for walking and golfing. You are likely to get a more specific answer to your medical concerns from your local medical professional.

    My boyfriend always has complaints about his knees. He had gone to doctor for injections (something like gel) into his knee, i think it was replacement for cartilage (?) I don't really understand. But he walks a lot, jobs require him to stand and walk a lot also sometimes go up and down stairs and lift heavy stuffs. Doctor can not explain to him what happened to his knees. I can only offer to massage his legs and feet every time he got home from work. And now I'm thinking of getting him the knee support band. But I need some suggestions too, whether he has to go to doctor again to ask the doctor to really do check up toward his knees, or go to Pyshioterapist, or for now use knee band (?) I hope to get reply from you, it would be so much help!

    My question: I play ice hockey, I'm 42, I rehabbed an MCL sprain playing goalie, I'm skating out now, should I wear supports for prevention or is that not a thing? I had just neoprene ones with the patella cutout.

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prevention is a such thing, but it is unlikely neoprene by itself is that effective. That being said, it is all dependent on how well your rehabilitation went and the current status of your MCL. Best to have it formally evaluated by a medical professional in person to have the most accurate results

      Its probably best to try a second opinion , it's unlikely a brace would be that effective
