if you are struggling with your credit card at the self service gas stations in Iceland here is the solution to avoiding the technical error you get at the computer screen. #iceland #gas #n1
After reviewing your video at the first gas pump, you were definitely inserting the card the wrong way. When you got to the second gas station you finally inserted it the correct way. The images on the gas pumps showing the black strip is correct. You finally had it correct at the second gas station
There have never been any technical problems with your card. You simply put your card on the wrong side. The magnetic band on the card is a the opposite side of the N1 logo. So, when you first tried, the magnetic band was on a LEFT side of the reader. And according to the twisted pictogram at the pump, right above where you inserted the card, the magnetic band must be on the RIGHT side (see at 2:15). Anyways, maybe they should have put an arrow on the card to ease the process.
It looks like from the video that you put the pre paid card in a different direction the second time. I am assuming the magnetic strip needs to go in, in a certain direction.
Wondering if lack of PIN number is your problem at N1? I've been watching a number of videos on TH-cam regarding filling of gas in Iceland, as I'm traveling there soon, and universally, the recommendation is to be sure that your credit card has a PIN number issued. Just a thought....@@martinsanchez
Thank you. Very informative. Always good to have a few cards at hand. Especially in remote areas such as the westfjords
Even here in the states, when I pump gas, I ALWAYS make sure the stripe is on the correct side.

What do you do if there is leftover money on the card and you are leaving the country?

I put the card with the right side and it didn't work either.

good catch but still didn't work.
Makes me wonder if your credit card would have worked just fine with the strip in the right side. Did you try that?
Yes and it didn't work
Do you have to return the card after emptying it?
So apparently the cards have an ony one time use after they are trash.
Did your bank issue you a PIN number with your credit card?
No PIN number
