Comedian Tony Rock discussed his upbringing in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, a neighborhood profoundly impacted by the crack epidemic in the 1980s. Born into a family of eight children, Rock fondly remembers his parents’ hardworking nature. His mother, a schoolteacher and social worker, later opened a daycare center, while his father, Julius Rock, became a pioneering figure as the first Black man in Brooklyn's truck drivers union, despite facing severe racial hostility. Rock’s childhood was deeply shaped by the crack era, which he described as a bomb hitting Brooklyn overnight, transforming people into "zombies" and turning buildings into crack houses. Brooklyn and NY in general was CRUCIAL during the 80's crack era. Way different from today. Tons of homicides....we are talking shootouts between crews that lasted for like 15 to 20 minutes.
Brooklyn used to have 700-800 homicides a year in the crack era. The whole of NYC doesn't even hit near 700 homicides currently.

Did my clinical training in NYC back in 2021. ~80% of inpatient black men I treated over the age of 50 had HUGE midline abdominal incisions, secondary surgical scars from gunshot wound exploratory surgeries. (They call them "zippers" in Chicago). You'd have to be both stupid AND lazy to have fallen for the drug trade.

So my uncle did a dna test for 23 n me.. and some lady from across the country it says he was related too, not the father but related. Turns out my dad is her father. She’s older my dad woulda been like 18/19 when this child was born he doesn’t remember the lady nothing, apparently the mom never told her daughter who the father was so she never knew … he met her and everything seems like it’s not true, all us kids look just like my father like spitting image and she does not. I dno what to think of the whole situation but apparently I have a sister now, I’m still skeptical though
