You young folks are Awesome and the hope of your generation. Done my heart good to see millenials with all these skills and enjoying nature. Thanks so much for sharing your trip!
i appreciate the kind words, james. im glad you enjoyed the video. were genuinely enjoy outdoor adventures and skills and are always hoping to inspire others.
Back in the early 2000s. I worked for a wilderness therapy place called the Anasazi Fountain. I learned a lot from Zeak. Lots of the techniques you used in this video, bed role backpack, bow drill fire, and washing dishes with the sand. I owe a lot to zeak and the Anasazi Fountain. (Awesome video btw)
Thumbs up on the green chile!! I am so happy that I found you again. YT changed their "rhythm" if you get what I mean and I lost track of you, now I am subscribed. I live in New Mexico and appreciate the areas you video in. I love your videos and lots of love and prayers for my El Paso neighbors.
Congrats on the first bow drill fire James! Well done! I love the simplistic Minilmist adventure Shane and Nyah took you and Cuervo on. Great Inspirational outing. Atb Sean
I respect you for learning more as you can. And not being a know it all on front of the ladies. That shows you are a man to ride the trail with. Willing to learn and no arrogant ego.. Much success to you guy.
The more i see it the more i want a kansbol ! Its like the big brother of my lil mora eldris. The eldris is my all time favorite camp knife, so i cant wait to try the bigger kansbol.
Nice trip! I'm guilty of this in the past, but when cleaning the dishes you should dump the dirty away from the water source. Shane definitely has some skills. I need to learn the bow drill for sure. This year!
I always feel sorry for desert cattle, especially after seeing those Colorado cattle in belly high grass. P.S. Shazam says Cuervo Negro on those sweet blues notes.
Just came across this video and really enjoyed it. Awesome friends you had with you. So awesome to see gals an guys of you age enjoying outdoors. Good job!! Excellent music too
Looks like everybody had a good time. We need more young women and couples to get into camping. Most people think it's just a bunch of men getting drunk shooting guns and hanging out. If we want our young people our children to learn camping we need to teach them. I always enjoy your content
An awesome camping trip you guys had i know i watched this before a d wanted to watch it again i dont think i comment on the first time but still amazing 😀
Yeah, there's a Lone Ranger and Tonto joke about sleeping under the stars :) Summer sausage is easy to make and lasts for months without a cooler. Pemmican is much better!
We get mosquito larvae in our jet tub sometimes. I fill it, they swim out. Anyways, when full I poured 4 cups of bleach in and they survived!! I couldn't believe it. It would be an interesting video to test your bleach purification method, and various others.

apologies on the audio, to be honest, it was our microphone which was starting to malfunction during the trip. plus the casual nature of filing the camping video, sometimes the microphone was put away in a pack or being used elsewhere when we filmed content. but were getting a new mic this week. thank you for watching!
Hey, James, that was great. Shane's a great teacher and has an awesome knowledge base on that stuff. How far did you guys hike to your camp spot? Razor!? You took a razor? (9:26) Thanks for taking us along, I really enjoyed it!
well keep in mind that traveling to arizona was more than jsut the camping trip. but the rent a hotel the night before meeting up, and another the last night before leaving in the morning.those 5 days required some maintenance lol
Congratulations on your bow drill coal James . I love that camp spot I think I'd do a hammock and skeeter net though as I don't like waking up to things crawling on me get up off the hot sand as well.
Most wildlife would rather avoid humans. Exceptions can occur such as with bears, and sometimes a buck deer at night that is being aggressive to protect it's territory. I have had more issues with buck deer at night than with Coyotes. In some areas Moose, Elk, Buffalo, and wild pigs should be avoided as much as possible as well. The main critter to be wary of is Skunks. They are prone to rabies. Raccoons and Opossums may come into camp if they smell food and are looking for any trash you left around, but they generally stay on the outskirts of a campsite if there is a campfire or lantern going. However, both can be aggressive when threatened. In some areas porcupines can be a nuisance like Opossums and Raccons. Coyotes might come in to investigate food smells, but it would be rare. They would rather wait for you to leave and then investigate any food smells. Most wild animals won't bother you unless you bother them and they are protecting young, or are injured, sick, or rabid. In wild areas, scout the area you want to camp in for Badger dens, Coyote dens, and other animal dens or nests. Check for other signs of wildlife, like bedding areas, animal trails used for getting to water, or that are used for general travel such as when deer move from a grazing area to a bedding location, or when Coyotes are traveling from a den to water or to hunt. Those are areas to avoid camping in. But, good for hunting.
@@stevenmonkman1500 You are probably right. Has the purple bandana and the neck knife. I read Cody Lundin's book and he has a lot of good points but he also lives in a desert and I live in the mountains so I could only incorporate some of his things. Great to learn from many but don't just copy one.
Where is this. I’m new to an me and some buddies want to try and get into bushcrafting we can’t seem to find good info on any places that are secluded near water
What is the reason for using the bow drill on a hat? A hat is a important resource and shouldn't be used like that. Just wondering if there is a specific reason for it or could you have used a piece of bark or another item that is not a part of your clothing.
to be honest, m not sure. i normally sleep in a tent, which provides protection but the rare times ive slept just on the ground, ive never had much more than a few bugs scrambling around. never had an issue with snakes though.
That is kind of a myth. Not saying it can't happen, but it would be very rare for a snake that is generally afraid of human beings to crawl into bed with you. The main thing is to shake out any bedding that has been left laying on the ground before you get in it. If a snake ends up in your bed with you it was probably there when you got in it because it was left on the ground at some point while you were absent from camp. Keep bedding rolled up and off the ground when you aren't in it and you will be fine. About the only snake that is going to crawl into bed with you is a pet snake that is use to people and being handled. Wild snakes, like most wild animals, would rather avoid you. I would be more worried about scorpions and ticks. Insect repellant is an essential. I hate chiggers. However, if you spread some garden sulfur around where you are going to sleep it will help ward off the insects.

The hat kept the bow drill out of the sand, soft sand makes a poor surface for firemaking. The hat made a firmer surface on top and works quite well 🙂
