The GREATEST show we used to watch when I was 15 years old and I so wanted to be a soul musician! This music, these people were a big part of my life. Bill "Hoss" Allen, wherever you are, may God have a special mansion in Heaven just for you and your loved ones.
This show is a time capsule of music history in the making. ALL the artists on the show laid the groundwork for both R&B and Rock & Roll. And on top of that, Gatemouth Brown and The Beat Boys were one MEAN group of musicians!
I came here from the Gatemouth Brown Wikipedia page. I used to see him play in New Orleans in the 80s and 90s so grateful to see this!!! 23:23 Gatemouth Brown clowns his way to the mic to sing “tell your ma tell your pa we’re going to integrate in Arkansas” ITS BLEEPED OUT! Still?!?!
1966...to get aired below the "Mason Dixon Line"..edits were common;note earlier when Etta sings "see the girl with the diamond ring","she knows how to shake her thing"was edited out,but sneaks through via one of the male singers...not likely to see an unedited version of this show,it is what it is...sang James...Groundbreaking show that I never heard of,history right there.Peace
It's incredible to see old film footage of Clarence gate mouth Brown. He was one of the forerunners in the entire electric lead guitar style back in the 40s right after T-Bone Walker. A most essential guitar player to have in your collection of albums. The man doesn't even use a pic. 🙋
Wow! I thought I knew every TV entertainment, music, top of the hits show (I guess not). FANTASTIC, all those soulful artists on that stage. A treasure for us music fans of that era. Thanks to the TUBE and you for a soulful strut back in time. AWESOME BABY.
all of those soul artist of the 60th where very populair in surinam south america, till this day ,you can hear them every day on the radio oldies but goodies, also populair in the netherland soul music from the 60th.
@@marcinpiotrkaczmarek Why did he say it or why did they mute it? This was less than 10 years after the Central High School in Little Rock had been integrated & only 2 years after the Civil Rights Act had been passed. That era of the Civil Rights movement was far from over. Arkansas and many other states were still struggling to integrate so I think that topic was very much in lots of people's minds. I think the show muted it because it would have been seen as too controversial to air it with that word in it.
@@user-s1o3nr532 LIPSYCING was cheaper, that's what American Bandstand was all about. they practically had ever recording artist , Elvis and Ricky Nelson were the only two not to appear on Bandstand

IT'S MAGIC!! This whole series, is fantastic! Thank You :)
Fell into a wonderful time warp.
I'll be staying here.
All live performances no less. No lip syncing.
That was a nice little, "jump back" done by Ester Phillips at 22:48 to make room for Roscoe Shelton.
Hossman got Soul!
It was real nice how the show host, Bill (Hossman) Allen came up and pointed out to Lattimore Brown, at 22:01 for him to come up to sing.
Boy that ending doesn’t get any better. Whew
They're all good but eta James is astounding .
The dancing girl in green and white, from 20:18 to 20:36, was jamming very noticeably.
Agree totally with davidspamboy. Wonderful. All of it, but esp when they all kick into It's alright. Thanks so much for uploading
Beleza
Love the cover of the Lennon and Mc Cartney song
ROSCOE SHELTON S Excello lp is 2 bluesy ; his SS7 lp is a deep soul purr-fection ! ! !
Nice falsetto by Roscoe Shelton at 15:57.
Etta James stole the show twice: The first time was from 21:39 to 22:00. The second time was from 23:35 to 23:54.
Esther Phillips' hair looks real good from 22:26 to 22:36. She also looks cute when she looks down at 22:34.
Esther Phillips did some serious footwork from 23:06 to 23:14.
Agora eu descobri porque os Besouros fizeram tanto sucesso.
A verdade aparece.
Was this Bill Allen the same host who went by the nickname 'Hossman' on the Nashville radio station WLAC?
Yes same person :)
gonna send you back to NAGASAKI!
At the end, Gatemouth sang "we're gonna integrate Arkansas." They muted it out.
but why?
My bf just got the DVD set & we watched this episode last night & that's what I thought he said.

Because that mindset is experiencing the slowest change.
Deep south politics of the 60's ...same bs now, different issues
Etta James should have adjusted the microphone at 23:56 for Ester Phillips, instead of at 24:16.
David Fathead Newman!!! 9:38!
IS THAT THE SINGER,LATIMORE,THAT SINGS LETS STRAIGHTEN, OUT????
Yes he is. The very same.
@@tyronewilliams8344 NOPE. Lattimore Brown was a SS7 artist from Nashville. John Richbourg s stable. The Malaco artist a diff person.
Smoking.
Thank you
No less, Lars.
They lipsinc on this show. I don't know why because back in those days they were all the best singers especially live.
Some are but not all .
It might have been because of technical issues - some TV studios struggled with live bands.
@@user-s1o3nr532 LIPSYCING was cheaper, that's what American Bandstand was all about. they practically had ever recording artist , Elvis and Ricky Nelson were the only two not to appear on Bandstand
Less expensive,less techs,etc...
Hoss called Etta a hog! She about punched him
You heard right?
Hahaha!!
This guy singing James Brown dont have no talent.. no wonder why he is singing some ones song...
